  1. Ah, the par 5 with the swimming pool on the right protected by a high net? If I miss that drive, it is normally to the left and OB. I love that hole. A good drive can set you up for making the green in two.
  2. Did you ever have the chance to meet him? Calvin that is?
  3. David, I totally apologize. I did miss your post. But I truly like it.
  4. Good afternoon all. My favorite player that most of you never heard of (yes, I like Jack, Arnie, Tiger, Phil, etc.) is Calvin Peete. As a little boy (in the late 70s) growing up in Hattiesburg, MS, I normally played the university golf course by walking a mile through the woods and starting on #4 (I didnt steal/cheat...it was too far to walk all the way around to the start...a couple of miles...we WERE members). One particular week was when the Magnolia Classic was scheduled to start (PGA event that became the Viking Classic in Jackson, MS). As a young lad, I sucked. I was a horrible slicer (baseball swing w/ persimmon woods). As I made my way around the course (in a lot of strokes), a golfer caught up to me. He had a slightly awkward swing...but man...could he play. He was one of the few black men that I ever saw on this course. His name was Calvin Peete. He took pity on me and took the time to show me a couple of improvements. I will never forget his kindness towards a young boy he would never know or see again. Just my thoughts, Armygolfer4life
  5. I am a conservative. I will not make a political post...I don't even know what it means to lose skins on this site. I will say this: golf is a place to set aside our outside quarrels and disagreements. In the world of golf, we should needle the bad shots, compliment the good shots, and stomp any cheaters. We SHAKE HANDS at the end of the match and show respect. Now, that last sentence is DEFINITELY NOT GEARED TOWARDS POLITICS. Just my thoughts, Armygolfer4life
  6. I prefer shopping at countryclubwhereicannotplay. I drive over in my large truck (because they all drive something much smaller), wait for someone to come out in an outfit I like, and then ask them nicely to give it to me. And they do. Of course I probably have my shoulder holster on...but the pistol is snapped in...I swear! I have GREAT stuff...usually have to tailor the slacks though...and most golf shoes dont fit either...
  7. I normally wear a watch and ring. Since you guys are all about feeling naked or not, I often dont wear boxers in the summer when I play...
  8. I am active Army as well. I was in Afghanistan from 2010/2011. There is PLENTY of equipment in the country. We had a driving range in Bagram; we just couldnt retrieve balls because we had to hit them into a minefield. We received a 10' x 10' container of Calloway clubs...just by asking Calloway. We also recieved a 20' container of balls. You get a much better response from the companies, vice posting to a forum like this one. Just my thoughts, Armygolfer4life
  9. I am a 29-year Army veteran (still going strong) and golf fanatic. The only things that keep me off the course (in order) are my family, my wife, and my job. While in Afghanistan in 2010/2011, I won a golf contest, flew to Dubai, and played the Dubai Desert Classic pro-am...with Tiger. Woo hoo!
  10. Well, the snow has finally stopped this week in Denver! Temperatures are climbing to high 60s by Thursday/Friday. Can you say...FORE!! Gonna try these new Gamer Tours.
  11. I love ProV1s and ProV1Xs...but my amateur swing wont support thier need to be hit properly to reduce side spin...
  12. Superplumber, It really depends on what will fit your game. Start by looking at what are your biggest problems. If you stay constantly in the rough/trees/etc. off the tee, maybe a ball w/ less/reduced sidespin is your calling. If you hit is straight but lack distance (causing abnormally long second/third shots), maybe a distance ball is the answer. Once you decided you worst shortcomings (that a ball can actually affect), go by a store or course with a good pro. He should be able to help in the selection. Or do what I do so much of...Google it.
  13. Totally understand and agree. I actually just changed all my cleats out this weekend. The snow is melting...we are near...lol.
  14. This may sound weird when comparing a Top Flite v. a Titleist ball, but I truly preferred the feel and sound of the V2 over the NXT. It spawned confidence.
  15. I hope Plum Creek reopens this spring. Of the two Castle Rock courses, I prefer Plum. It is a better test of golf and not as gimmicky as Red Hawk. I dont know your price range, but Aurora has very reasonably priced courses. The same is true of Denver (JFK's Creek 9 was beautiful...even in winter). What hole are you on? And side? I will try to carry the ball down the other side...LOL.
  16. Being a career Soldier, I have lived all over the United States and have seen all types of courses in all types of communities during all times of economic woes/boons. With all that being said, it is a combination of access and cost. I love to play, but when weekend rates for a good course hit $75 and more...I have to think twice...in fact I dont think...I dont play. I play most of my golf during the week in the afternoons. If you look at growing this game...you MUST make it accessible to the public...all the public. Several comments talked about goat patches that were inexpensive...and they are CORRECT. Sorry courses are affordable. While you can afford to play there, it is hard to grow the game from venues that cannot afford to do much more than mow the grass. Just my thoughts.
  17. I cannot comment on the Gamer Tour...but I have played the V2s for years. I do not have any of the issues others have had. I am longer with them and have WAY more control (less sidespin) than the premium balls. Bottom line is that my handicap dropped w/ the V2s...I went back to premium balls when I got below a 10 handicap...and promptly ballooned. The V2s stop fine on greens...and the lower side spin kept me in fairways. I just bought the Tours today. If this blizzard stops, I plan to pay them next week.
  18. I LOWERED my handicap substantially by going with the GamerV2. I was "sold" on Pro Vs and other top shelf balls. Unfortunately, I spun out left and right...not by a lot...but enough to stay in trouble. When the GamerV1 came out, I loved the reduced side spin. I stayed in the fairways and was able to drastically improve my scores. I totally agree that the V1 tore up too quickly and I welcomed the V2 with open arms. My handicap dropped to a 9...it was time to go back to the "big boys" such as ProVs, etc. How wrong I was. I was missing fairways and getting more OBs than I could stomach. I went back to a 11+ handicap in the blink of an eye. My path was clear...back to the V2s. I now have a 7.5, playing normally from the tips, and I will hit 50 y/o this year. I have learned to take my medicine with not backing up a ball, but to tell the truth...I was NEVER a great backer-up of the ball. I simply stop it. Without solid instruction to fix whatever ails my swing, the V2 is my next best thing. BTW, just bought the Gamer Tour...will check them out next week if this blizzard stops.
