30 which seems lower than most here and doesn't surprise me. When things go bad I don't always show it on the outside; however, I am most definitely boiling on the inside.

The flat board and impact tape measure the lie angle at impact though and not at address. Guessing most golfers impact the ball a little above the shaft plane at address, I know I do.

About mid-summer I started doing this and it has helped me not only with my club face but also with my stance. It has given me a lot more confidence that if I can make a good swing it will pay off. When teeing off, I find a spot that stands out around where I want to be on the tee box. I position my ball there. In play it is obviously different; however, there is usually some spot that you can identify to assist you with your setup.

Found this article which basically states a golf ball should be OK for 10 or so years in the proper conditions. I think the most important question you would need to ask yourself is what are you trying to get out of a golf ball (distance, spin, control, etc.)? There are many options now that cater to different swing speeds, shot trajectory, etc. There are options online to help narrow down the options. Here are a couple... Sunday's round made up for my misfortunes on Saturday. Two doubles (just poor concentration), one bogey and 7 birdies. Finished with a 69 (Par 71/71.4). Hit some really nice approach shots and had a good amount of birdie opportunities under 10 feet. I have never been a really good wedge player. I have been working on them hard for some time. It is amazing the difference that it can make in your game. I feel that it has had a positive effect on my 9 iron and PW as well.

Was 2 under going into 16. Hit a tee shot into the rough just off the left side of the fairway. Line of sight on the left is blocked by a few trees but opens up with absolutely no trouble. Couldn't find my ball and tried to ask the group that just walked through there if they picked it up (7 runs parallel with 16). They said no. 3 guys in my group said there was no other explanation (no trouble, no gopher holes, just grass) and that I should drop and play 2. I did the right thing and re-teed putting it in the hazard on the right, ended up making an 8. Made a bogey on the next hole as I was still heated. Finished with a par. The most upsetting 74 I have shot in a long time. 15 greens in reg today so I was striking the ball well. 3 birdies, 2 bogeys and an 8.

Just signed up for Evolvr. Hopefully my experience is similar to others on here.

My fear is that the image on camera isn't as great as the current feel and results. As ridiculous as it sounds, even when things are good I manage to find a way to mess it up when I start filming my swing. Then that minor change leads me to changing other things and it escalates. I think the answer is simple, I just need to get on Evolvr to nail down a priority piece. It is tough for me to be a Stupid Monkey without complete confidence in the piece I am working on.

I would agree with this and would take a similar approach but probably not as far as the centerline of the rough, probably in between the left rough and middle of the fairway. Hit it straight or with a little draw and you are on the left side of the fairway. Push it and you are on the right side of the fairway. Pull or hook and you are safe with a good opportunity to still make par. Hit a bad push or banana slice you are OB but should probably be penalized anyways. There appears to be no trouble on the left outside of the rough or another fairway. You are leaving yourself more club in when you go left over there; however, there appears to be plenty of room between the water and green to run a longer iron up there. If the hole is your nemesis, then giving yourself an opportunity at par every time should be your goal in my opinion. Targeting the left side should do that.

Right now I am playing really well. I had been focusing on getting my hands deeper and not picking up the club early in the backswing. I am keeping my right elbow tucked to my side so I don't feel like the club is flattening out by getting my hands deeper. I feel that I am staying more on plane during my backswing and it has really seemed to set me up in a great position to attack the ball. Since these changes in feel, I haven't really analyzed my swing on camera. The question is, when things are going well should you just forget about analyzing your swing? Maybe I should be analyzing to see what is working? The problem I fear there is that I will find something I don't like as I always do. I will make some alteration and it will throw things off. Anyone else struggle with this or have any suggestions on how to not mess things up when you are playing well? Maybe I should just get on Evolvr finally so that I can be instructed to make the right changes and not create issues when I am playing well.

I don't disagree that he needs reps and that he wanted to make the cut. Just wasn't the feeling I was getting when watching him go through the motions.

Guess that answers my question, Tiger bounces back with a Birdie on 18. I get that he must have been burning inside on 17, just never seen him walk up and just quickly hit balls like that. Seemed like that happened quite often today and made it seem to me like he was disinterested. Part of me was thinking after 17 that he didn't really want to make the cut if he wasn't going to be in the mix coming into Saturday. Would like to see Fowler win one this weekend.

Does Tiger want to make the cut? Honest question. Just seems disinterested on 17.

What is your (current) favorite swing thought?
Party replied to chris3putt's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I have a couple, I know probably not the best idea but playing well lately. Elbow glued to the right side on the takeaway along with a Rickie Fowler like takeaway (not as extreme but trying to get that feeling). -
Since I don't have big hands I can't be sure. Since the same size grip fits larger in smaller hands versus larger hands, I would think that increasing the size of the grip would move you more towards an interlocking grip since it is fitting larger in your hands. In reality it is all about personal preference. If overlap feels better after some practice then go with. You will need to give it a chance as it will probably feel awkward at first.

Switched from Vardon to Interlocking about 5 years ago. I have smaller hands and at least feel that my hands are working together more, even if they don't sometimes.

I'd Be Scratch with a Better Mental Game
Party replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Yes, he has a decent putting stroke. Agree it will not take you to scratch if you are a ways out. I do think it can help with a few strokes when you get down into low single digit handicap territory. He said where it really helped him was standing over the ball with confidence. He said he believed he was going to make every putt. I do believe having confidence in your stroke can create better results when contacting the ball. I can think of so many times where I stood over a ball with no confidence and I made poor contact which is most of the time. -

I play golf with a guy on the weekends that read a book on the mental approach to putting, I think it was "Putting out of your mind". He said it really helped him. He has taken a good amount of money from me due to the better results he gets with the putter. He was one of the best putters I played with all of last year which included some + handicaps. This year he is putting well but last year was ridiculous all year. -
Does it really need to be that hard?
Party replied to CharlePL's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Welcome to the forum. I have been playing since I was 5 which is about 26 years now. I am around a 3 handicap (1.5 the lowest) and still haven't become a + handicap at any point in my life. I don't practice as much as I used to when I was younger (all day, every day) as I find more enjoyment playing the game and I just don't have as much time. Golf is one of those things where you can't expect perfection whether you are starting out or an experienced player. When starting out you must set small and realistic goals for yourself, even on the range. Hit 3 out of 10 shots solid or whatever it may be. Put 3 out of 10 15 foot putts within 1 foot on the putting green, etc. Each time you meet these goals you should look upon them as a success. Each one of these successes will lead to better golf in your future. Golf is one of those things where you need to find enjoyment in the small victories as none of us will be out there setting low score records (unless there are some tour pros frequenting this forum). It isn't like fishing where anyone could go out one day and catch the biggest record fish. If you have the right approach and frame of mind, golf is the greatest game ever and will be for you. . And yes, golf IS hard. But it is also a great time. -
I have a pretty steep angle of attack naturally which helps when deciding not to play in the fairway. That would be my first thought, to steepen the angle of attack. If hitting a punch shot, I have had success opening my stance and moving the ball back. I feel that opening my stance allows me to stay behind the ball when punching it out. I find that it is even more important to make sure that you stay behind the ball when coming out of medium to heavy rough. Otherwise I have a tendency to get too far ahead of the club face, really de-lofting it and snapping it shut in the grass causing major issues. 1. I wouldn't make much for adjustments. 2. I would club up in this situation. It is tough to say exactly without standing over the ball but it looks like I could get through it. Would hit a running punch (when applicable) if I am unable to get through the ball by just clubbing up. 3. I would definitely be looking to hit a low running punch shot if at all possible. Depending on what I can get on the ball, I would take that club. Probably nothing more than a 5 iron. If I don't feel that I can get a good punch on the ball, I would just grab a wedge, advance and hope for par. Regardless, I always choose the club/shot that I have the most confidence in when coming out of medium to deep rough. If I think I can get to the green but am not entirely confident, I try to pick something else. I don't want to be hitting out of that stuff twice and I definitely don't want to penalize myself even further by introducing some sort of hazard.

I'd Be Scratch with a Better Mental Game
Party replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
When thinking about my approach this year to golf I was going to try and improve the mental side of the game. To start the year I had thought I was doing rather well with my new and improved mental approach. I wasn't letting bad holes or stretches get to me thus allowing me to make up shots. However, your statement got me thinking and to be honest, better shots have improved my mental side of the game. I am giving myself a lot more makeable birdie opportunities which has seen a significant increase in the amount of birdies this year. Between the birdies and mixing in a couple of eagles this year, I have been able to get shots back. Really it isn't my improved mental approach but rather my ability to hit better shots. More birdies will improve anyone's mental approach. -
I really enjoy the golf league that I am in. While it isn't as quick as playing by yourself, it introduces some friendly competition and a way to win some money. The league has the ability to penalize groups for slow play and does send out communication when there are issues. It is a good stress reliever on a Thursday to go out and have a couple beers (or soda or whatever you prefer) and play in some friendly competition. It seems to provide good networking opportunities as well, sometimes you find others in the same field of work or interests. However, I am sure that some leagues can be complete clusters and ruin it for others.
