  1. I don't know why this is such a shock to everyone, it has been minimal coverage compared to just about every other tour event for years. At least you can watch live from Amen corner online...
  2. Quite a choke shooting 62 today... For what it is worth, Phil will never ever be on Tiger's level, however, 3 majors and 34 wins is one helluva career - and Phil probably has 4-5 more decent years in him. No one is on Tiger's level, but I think we can all enjoy watching the Phil's, AK's, and everyone else out on the tour... Just my .02
  3. I shot 88 today at Crooked Tree in Tucson. Fairly cool and very windy on the front side. Sank a 18 foot putt for Birdie on #11. Took 3 penalty strokes today... Yikes... Score 88 FW 6/14 GIR 6/18 Putts 32 Penalty Strokes - 3
  4. Just one. The Taylor Made in my sig. I like this club as it feels more like an iron to me then some of the other hybrids I've hit/owned. I also have a cobra baffler 18* hybrid but it is out of the bag (as is my 3 iron).
  5. I guess I would consider a player someone who can play all the shots the game requires. High draw, low fade, whatever the shot calls for. A player can pick up and dictate where the ball is going to go and can play top of the line professional equipment. Now a hacker is someone who slows down the game, can't break 100, and makes excuses day in and day out (re, my boss...) as to why they can't play to their potential. The rest of us are golf enthusiasts? I would never consider myself a player but I'm really happy shooting in the 80's. I don't slow down play, I hit the range once a week and try to play 27 holes a week. I'll probably never be a scratch golfer but I like to think I am far from a hacker.
  6. Kind of an opposite round from yesterday. The putter wasnt nearly as good but I hit waaay more GIR. I shot 82 today 5/14 Fairways 9/18 GIR 36 Putts It really feels great, my game has gotten exponentially better this year and I've recently had a nice jump from the Low/Mid 90's to consistently finding the 80's. Here's to winter golf I guess!
  7. Good luck with the new callaway. I went through handful of different wedges this year. Luckily the Golf Galaxy near me had a slew of used left handed wedges that I was able to hit in the store a bunch and try out on the course. I found my 56 sm Vokey there and fell in love with the club. I eventually bought a sm 60 after a nice win at the casino. I went through a CG10 50* gap wedge which turned into a Callaway X-Tour 52* Gap wedge and then finally into a new 52* Vokey SM gap wedge. I finally feel comfortable with all three wedges and while it may all be in my head, I love that they all match. The weight and feel off of the face really feel the best to my game.
  8. I shot 83 today. What was amazing is that I actually got the ball up and down today and even chipped in once. I hit 9/14 Fairways I hit 2/18 Greens 1 Lost ball penalty I had 27 putts - my lowest total of the year by 3 strokes. My greens were down, usually I hit 5 or 6 a round but I was sticking my wedges which really helped. Tied for my best round of the year!
  9. 2008 was a great year for me golf wise. I got great clubs into the bag, and have played 45 rounds thus far. That said here is what I am hoping for in 2009: Break 80 by the end of the year. I've shot 83 2 times this year. My avg is still 92.2 but I found the 80's back in October and have done well, getting there 4 more times this season. Tighten up putting on back 9. For some reason my putting on the back nine usually goes down hill when I've tired a bit and I lose a ton of feel that I have on the front 9. Improve up and down percentage (21% since I started keeping track, and it was much worse earlier in the season) Improve on all shots that are not full swings (knock down shots, punch shots, pitches, chips and sand shots) Play 52 rounds in 2009. Play Bethpage Black during annual Summer vacation to New York next August if I break 80 before than, play the Red if I haven't. Have fun every time I play no mater if I shot 83 or 103.
  10. I chipped in from the short side sand trap for birdie today. Hole #9 @ Crooked Tree - Tucson AZ.
  11. Well most of the courses that I play range between 6000-6600 yards and I usually play the white tees. I'm really big on playing to a comfortable yardage which usually sits between 95-155 yards to the hole. This puts a full shot in my hands with a club that I can rely on (for me 7i - GW). Off the tee this usually means a few different clubs. I can hit my driver 240-260 but that does me no good on a hole that is 310 yards. I'm happy taking hybrid or 4/5 iron off the tee if that is what the shot needs. I am really big on playing to what few strengths that I have so if I feel that I am more likly to hit the green by hiting 5 iron off the tee, I won't hesitate. The guys I play with outdrive me fairly regularly, however, my regular foursome has not beat me over 18 holes in over a year.
  12. From the month of September through May, I always walk, carrying about 50% of the time and using a push/pull cart about 50% of the time. I hate riding in a cart - like some of you have pointed out, I cannot get into a rhythm and my scores are usually worse. There are several courses here in Tucson that require you to ride - many with long areas between holes. During the summer months, I almost always end up riding - the 105 degree weather and the AZ sun is too much for me to walk 18 (I will walk 9 if I can get out in the morning). Plus the rates drop substantially once all the snowbirds leave. My first job growing up
  13. 10.5 degree driver 3 Wood 2 Hybrid 4 Hybrid 4-PW 52 GW 56 SW 60 LW Anser putter Odyssey white hot #9 for putts inside of 6 ft, love the feel on short putts but cant lag putt worth a dime with this club. I think that is 16 clubs
  14. As the summer is behind us and it is once again comfortable to walk down here in Arizona, I am interested in picking up a new stand bag. My dilemma is that I am a lefty and prefer to carry the bag on my left shoulder. It seems that most of the new stand backs are backpack straps and I was wondering if any of the straps are reversible so that the left shoulder takes the dominant weight. Any suggestions/recommendations are appreciated. Thanks!
  15. I think I have average distance with my clubs. I hit the driver 240-260, 7 iron goes 150ish and my 100 yard club is my 52 gap wedge. I still can't beat my Dad who hits 4 iron at 150 and 8 iron at 100.
  16. A fantastic end to a great 9 for me today. 490 yard par 5 (#18 at El Rio in Tucson). Put my second shot in the greenside bunker, blasted my sand wedge into the hole for my first eagle. On top of that, the eagle gave me a 39 for my best 9 in 14 years. Happy days.
  17. Well it isn't necessarily the offseason down here in Tucson as we don't have one, however, I did recently purchase a new ping anser iwi putter. I opted to not pick up the additional weights just yet. Love the feel of the insert and the weight of the club as it comes standard. I had the shaft shortened to 33.5 upon purchase and so far, really enjoy the club. I will possibly replace my driver or at least the shaft before the new year.
  18. Right now I'm working on hitting the ball then hitting the ground, taking a divot after impact. I'm working on strengthening my grip and hitting down on the ball as best I can. Other then that, I'm working on not three putting. So far 2 of my last three rounds I've been able to accomplish this goal.
  19. Played the Pines outside of Tucson today. Had two great tee shots on par 3's. #8 was 175 to the middle and I grooved a 5 Iron to 8 ft, made the birdie. Then on #13 120 to the back pin a stuck a pitching wedge to 6 feet. Two of the best shots I've had all year on par 3's. Shot an 86, pretty happy.
  20. It is not on sale but you can get the igolf neo at Golfsmith for $150. The subscription fee is $34.95 for 100 downloads. I got one recently and really like it, and for half the cost of the competition, don't think you can go wrong. I haven't seen the vokey's on sale but I got my 56 used for $70 at golf galaxy.
  21. Hi everyone, I am in the market for a new/different driver and wanted to solicit everyone's thoughts on their experiences. I currently have a 10.5 degree Cobra F-speed with a regular flex shaft (sorry, don't know the brand/details other then the flex strength) I hit this club about 240-260 with a very high ball flight. I would like to find something that doesn't fly quite so high and penetrates a little better. I've only had my swing speed read on one of the golf galaxy machines and usually run between 95-100 MPH, capping out at about 104 with my best hits. I play Titleist ProV1's and NXT Tours. I've hit the Ping G10 driver and liked the results. I've also hit the R5 and R7's. I'd like to go the used route as money is tight since I'm saving for a wedding next March. I'd like to cap the spending at $150. Any thoughts are appreciated! Thanks,
  22. I got my irons (callaway x-tour) used at Golf Galaxy for $350 which, while is still quite a bit of money to me, they had only been played twice with next to no wear on them. I found a brand new scotty cameron circa 62 at play it again sports for $159, I sold it a week later for $275.
  23. I've played Star Pass here in Tucson a few times. Very challenging desert style course that I tend to lose a few balls on every time I play there. Decent rates in the summertime if you can stand the heat!
  24. Well luckily I can mix and match all that I want. I voted for callaway as I absolutely love the irons and don't know how much of a drop off it is with their wedges. Great drivers and fairway woods. The only item from callaway I really don't like are their putters - something about the inserts in the odyssey putters that I never got comfortable with. All that aside, you can't go wrong with the titleist. My back up irons are the titleist DCI 990's and never mind playing them when I am back visiting my family. The cameron putters are great and the vokey wedges are the best. I don't think i've ever hit one of their drivers...
  25. Well for me and my lousy game I am not overly impressed by the sexy shots. Hitting a 240 yard 3 wood onto a protected green just isn't in my bag all that often so I tend to try and drop the ball between 100-125 yards which allows me to hit a full gap or pitching wedge into the green. For what it is worth, I tend to play fairly conservativly on par 5's and am more then happy to walk away with 6 on most ocassions. I picked it up playing high school golf usually being the shortest off of the tee. I had no problem going driver, 7 Iron, 9 iron into most par 5's, still don't.
