  1. ^^^ Oh my god. You should collect bunker sand from all of these courses!
  2. 0% today. My used-to-be-accurate driver became the SLICE ADDER OF DEATH. Total casualties = 6 balls, a raven, a squirrel and someone's garden gnome in 9 holes. Gotta hit the range for at least 2 days to try to smooth it out. Freaking swing changes always get me all wonky.
  3. Course policy varies. Inquire with your local course. Some require every person to have a bag, some don't care.
  4. 1) Yes, call them up. They will give you a tee time after inquiring how large your group is. Going alone is OK as well. 2) On weekends, most courses do back up, yes. 3) On par 3's, you wait until the green is clear. On par 4's, you can take the drive as soon as the fairway is clear (they've taken their 2nd/3rd shot, etc). Likewise for par 5's.
  5. Very nice - some nice mixes in here.. I wish I could take my clubs with me more when I go out of town. I want to explore around here more as well.
  6. All it takes is two people in the chat room to start a chat. :) It doesn't take much.
  7. Hey, I don't know about you, but this forum moves a little slow for me sometimes, in terms of golf talk, so I've put up a solution to the problem! As a long time user of IRC, I've created a small channel on EFNet called #thesandtrap. You can access it with any IRC client or this web client: http://www.mibbit.com (select EFNet: prison.net, or EFNet: umich.edu, and put in #thesandtrap in the channel name). See you there! My username is 'sent' or some variant thereof.
  8. Greg, Hopefully you got your swing problems in check. Not to go off topic, but I just have to say one thing. Your avatar creeps me out. Bad picture? I dunno. Put up an action picture of you swinging.
  9. Whenever I play, it doesn't really matter what the order of the tee off is.. Usuually someone will want to go first, usually someone will want to go last. It's whoever gets up to the tee box first (ready first).
  10. Stanford University Golf Course: http://www.stanfordgolfcourse.com I'm trying to get ahold of someone there to redesign the website.
  11. I believe... that the wrong pro/lesson can hurt your game a lot more than the right pro/lesson can. I believe... that a good golfer researches their own swing and teaches themselves the right and wrong things to do. I believe... that there is too much pressure on golf course superintendents to make the course Augusta-green, damaging the environment around the course and its players and natural inhabitants. I believe... that I play better walking than riding the cart.
  12. I like the HX Hots, but they're not workable around the green - the ball surface is surlyn (i think), so it's not sticky at all, so it's hard to put a spin on it. Maybe if you doped up your wedge with some pine sap
  13. OK - I see some big guys really stretch their arms far out to get some more speed in their swing. However, when you do that, your muscles aren't fully utilized in an outstretched position so you lose swing speed. Just a thought. Doesn't seem like your problem. Maybe you need to add a bit of lag to your swing?
  14. 1) Yes, it's ok for them to break. Annoying, but yes. 2) Get these tees: http://www.zerofrictiontees.com . They don't break. 3) You use tees for just about any club you want off the tee. For drivers and woods, the tee height should put 1/2 of the ball over the head of the club. For short irons, the tee should be flush with the ground. For long irons, the tee should be about 1/4 inch above the ground to give the ball a good lie. Here's some photographic references for you: Driver: Hybrids + Fairway Woods (1/2 inch off ground): Short Irons, 6I - PW (Flush): Long Irons, 2I-5I (1/4 inch off ground):
  15. Sinking a 8 iron for eagle. Watched the ball slow-roll its way into the cup.
  16. How far are your hands from your hips at address? Are your arms hanging vertically downwards?
  17. Sometimes if you don't take a divot, due to the turf being hard at a not-so-well-maintained golf course, and your club is angled upwards, a hooking problem may present because the bottom of the hosel is striking the ground and flipping the face of the iron over. Something to think about - I have this problem at tees and on hard pan and I adjust for it by moving farther away from the ball. I lose distance, but it gets the shot done.
  18. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGA9HofE1Ek Try this.
  19. Callaway HX Hot Bites $29.99 for a pack. Awesome ball. Only drawback is that the urethane covers get chewed up a little easy.
  20. I live in California, so... Probably: 1) Cypress Point 2) Pebble Beach 3) Olympic Club (in San Francisco) 4) Spyglass Hill
  21. Yeah, Four Seasons in Aviara - GPS cart with ice cold water bottles in a cooler, when you were finished, hot towels for your hands, and the clubs were throughly cleaned (with brush, etc). Plus a plate of fresh chocolate chip cookies :). I made two birdies that day, I guess I just like being pampered.
  22. Fancy! Then I just noticed your location. The courses there must be high-roller.
  23. I shot horrible. Horrible. 98 at my home course at Stanford from the black tees. Sliced everything. I made several pars towards the end because I made a swing change - I was extending my arms out too far and now they're in the right place. Still horrible. Effective handicap 22.3. My other two rounds this week had effective handicaps of 12.4 and 13.1.
  24. This should be in Equipment. However, I swung it at Golfsmith. Seems like a nice club - large sweet spot, the head is the size of a small child. However, the only thing you can do is just go demo one.
