I had 2 GREAT shots this week 1st Round. setup by a series of TERRIBLE shots: Par 5 (585) 1st shot sprayed into the trees left (320 left). 6 TALL trees in front of me, trees all around. I decided to go over since there's no leaves yet 2nd shot 8 iron played way in front to get it up quick (170 left) 3rd shot 5 iron up hill into the wind hit and just plugged on the fringe 2 putt par. 2nd Round 375 dog leg left par 3 you have to play a draw around 2 trees about 185 yards out. 3 iron off the tee (clipped the top of the 2nd tree) trees right in front of me, had to play a SUPER draw w/ a choked 5 wood. hit the green and rolled off. flop shot to 7' 1 putt par save.... hopefully we can ALL post to this thread weekly with our great shots/par saves

Nike Vr Blades or Half Cavities ?
DJYoshi replied to Austin Angel's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
It really depends on the swing. I tested both the blades & the pro combo set yesterday.... Currently using Mizuno MP-60's w/ Px 5.5 yesterday I tested both with a PX 6.0 shaft. I hit the pro combo set terribly compard to my mp-60's and I hit the VR Blades better than my MP-60's current distance: MP-60 - 6 iron 185 Pro Combo - 6 Iron 170 VR Blade - 6 iron 197 -
hahaha I think we've all touched down on a course or 2 like this
-
newer blades imo from what I've tested & used seem easier to hit and sting a lot less than the older blades. The 68's truly are a BUTTER club. From the 3 rounds that I've used them, I've noticed that the sting when mishitting a 3 iron isn't as great as let's say the mp-32 (still to me the prettiest club ever made). but then again, it's preference. I test drove the nike pro combo set a few weeks back, and I absolutely loved them (never thought I'd say that).

Wondering if anyone has tested these babies out yet. And if you have, and made the switch or didn't make the switch, what shafts did you have in your woods/driver to begin with.... I need to change my 3 wood shaft out since it's giving me way too much whip to control. I haven't had the time to do a ton or research yet on new shafts for the season. Currently i'm using Diamana Whiteboard 73 Stiff in the driver Diamana Blueboard 83 in the 5 wood & the stock fujikura x-stiff shaft in the 3 wood (got it too late in the season to change shafts & really know the flight that I want) Just wondering how the overall feel of the PX graphite shafts are like. The torque looks pretty high even at 6.0 and 6.5 shafts

Advice required on upgrading irons please
DJYoshi replied to rcbmulder's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
to be honest, many say don't go to a blade or a "players" club until you're ready. Though it's a good starting point, I say just blind test the clubs. If you're going to be playing a lot more and working on your game, i'd suggest a true blind test & fitting. I went from graphite shafts on X-16's to Mizuno MP-60's w/ PX shafts after my 1st year. Sure it took 2 weeks to get used to the clubs playing and hitting 6 days each week during the adjustment period...but in my personal opinion, I'd rather know when I miss hit, and where I miss hit...I felt like the change made me become a better ball striker... but if you'll be out there just shooting and having fun with friends and not playing a lot or planning on working on the game alot...go with a club that will give you the best results on the avg...miss hits included. -
Although it's entertaining to watch some of these guys go through the training that Hank Haney puts them through.. I'd like to see someone with talent that has a legit chance to play professionally. We all check out Big Break..and that competition is great TV programming. I'd personally love to see someone that's a + handicap that doesn't have the $ or opportunity to train with 1 of the greatest coaches of all time on the show. He can give insites on the game on a different level...instead of breaking 80's..it can be breaking par...and Hank can help them deal with the stress and prepare them for what to expect during qualifying tournaments, Q school etc.... just me double pennies.
-
I like to get there at least 30 minutes before so I can check in and stretch out for 25 minutes.... I find that to be more helpful than hitting 50 balls on the range.

INCONSISTENT... just like my life!

118 sand wedge for eagle on a short par 4....

I've shredded the Penta ball like crazy... I use vokey wedges and it tears them apart. Part of me doesn't even want to try to spin the ball sometimes b/c I don't want to ruin the ball! BUT, ever since I started playing the Penta...when I compare to the pro-v, the penta just suits my game better. sh** I've dropped down to a 1.5 since I started playing the ball... maybe b/c it's just confidence and the fact that I'm playing 4 - 5 days a week... but I love the ball.. putting wise, it feels great.. tee to green it's incredible... controlling the flight and spin is straight up on point too.. and I think that i'd like to fly out with Erik to see him play "Knuckles" on his home course... would be pretty damn interesting to see an "11 HC" that's WORSHIPED as a "God." And if you don't have backspin on the ball, how do you hit higher shots and spin them backwards? I thought for sure that mostly every ball hit with any club has backspin... I might be wrong, but isn't the spin rate in direct relation to how high the ball can travel? Come to think of it Stretch, I'll be in your area in a few months... what's the weather like in January? I'd be down to play

-1 under for the day. it could've been -3 BUT I bogied 1 hole I ALWAYS bogey no matter what I do off of the box..and bogied the 16 trying to play conservatively with the 17th being an easy par 4 scoring hole that's driveable and a pretty good 18th that I play at par.... At least I've broken par twice in the past 2 weeks!
-
for me it all depends... I go with feeling.. if i'm hitting pure that day or hitting a club less... but as far as elevation goes... I base it on yardage...if it looks like a 15 - 20' elevation... I'll club up 1 since each club gives me about a 10 yard diff. There are times where I'm hitting a 5 iron to an elevated green from 155 away (bear brook 10th hole). Try basing it off of that...look at the elevation change and then add or subtract yardage that way.. that's how I started in just figuring it out
-
what's your typical miss when you pull the hybrid? I actually HATE using hybrids. I'd rather hit a 2 or 3 iron instead of a hybrid..but now I just pull a 5 wood...and if i'm really stuck in the rough...I just try to get it out with an iron that I can comfortably be a wedge away to try to get up and down.

I was playing at Sunset Valley in Jersey this past Sunday.. had a lot of great shots, but this 1 stuck out in my head. 185 Par 3 into the wind up hill. the green has a CRAZY 35 degree slope to it... I normally go at this hole with no wind with either a 5 or a 4 iron depending on the placement. My brother & his best friend (1st year golfers) were pulling 6 irons. I decided to tee up a 5 wood high and play a really high cut and land it nice and soft. "do you know how long the hole is? it's only 185 yards. you're gonna fly the green." I said "trust I got this." and I was just hoping the ball would cut out on me. It did and I had 4' left for a tricky downhill birdie putt that I bricked...but at least my tee shot worked to perfection.

In my 3 full years of play I've experienced the extreme highs and ridiculously upsetting lows. This past month has been just that. Going into the season, I started out at a 4.3...having finished strong last season.. this year it seems the more I understand, the more I over-think and the more I f*** up. In just 2 weeks I've gone from a 4.3 up to a 5.5. So for the scratch players out there, does your HC fluctuate that much? I just can't believe I jumped up more than 1 pt in a 2 week period. Sure it's just a # and my anti is going down...but it just kind of sucked seeing it recalculate and going up over a 5 after I worked so hard to get it below that #... and the goal of my 4th season was to get it down to a 2 or better

last week's scores: Tuesday: 76 (Byrne) Thursday: 4 over thru 13 (Byrne) Friday: 5 over thru 14 (Byrne) Saturday: 84 (Great Gorge) Sunday: 76 (Byrne)

Morgan hill is a GREAT Course! It's long enough from the tips that some holes you're hitting driver 4 iron with CRAZY up and sidehill lies. There's enough trouble that it truly will test you.... shared boxes & fairways too... it's all-around a great track that's NEVER crowded! I live 15 minutes west of the holland and it takes me about 40 minutes to get down to PA. it's a straight shot right down 78. 1st exit in PA

I give smaller shops the business of gripping, shafting, weighting my clubs etc. but most of the time...I'll test clubs and get them on the web...it's just CHEAPER that way
-
I put a Diamana Whiteboard in my driver. PX's in the irons and Creation shafts in my woods.... I look for distance, ball flight, control and the feel when i'm looking into a new shaft.... and if all those are right..it promotes confidence....so with that...I say spend the $

I got out to play yesterday which was probably the nicest day that we've had in Jersey all year. PERFECT conditions, slight wind, 70's and the course was in perfect condition. I've NEVER had an opportunity to break par before. Everything was on point...From smashing drives to selecting the right irons and types of shots to play to the green. The putting was on, and thru 15 I was staring at being 1 under. The last 3 holes aren't that difficult: 16: 368 Par 4 with the wind 17: 438 Par 4 against the wind 18: 184 Par 3 against the wind I don't know if I was shook b/c I lost my tee after the shot on 15 (lucky tee was with me for 9 rounds). Or the fact that the grounds crew was cutting trees down while I was at each tee box...but I LOST IT! Maybe it's b/c I looked at my score card not really knowing how well I was shooting until I started totaling the #'s up, but I finished the last 3 holes at 6 over to shoot a 77 on the day. For the other players out there...do you put extra pressure on yourselves when you're shooting in uncharted territory? How did you get over it? This isn't the 1st time that it's happened to me...but just the chance to shoot a round under par got to me.

In the market for my first HDTV, any thoughts/advice?
DJYoshi replied to Teklabz's topic in The Grill Room
If you're in the market for a new TV, just go LED or OLED. The newest technology...but if you WON'T be gaming on the TV, then can I suggest http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/t...etail&tab;=spec My boy picked this up a few months ago and it's GORGEOUS. 600hz sub refresh rate = stunning smoothness...incredible blacks 3 mil to 1 dynamic ratio. it's just an all around great TV for watching movies, sports, etc. BUT if you plan on gaming on the TV, then go with a 240 ref. aquos or samsung... I'm still on my 52" aquos lc52d92u TV from 2007 and I couldn't be happier with it...BUT i'm looking into going plasma in that room since it's primarily used for movies and TV -
I HATE Twisted Dunes...well don't hate it...just like how bobby jones hated St. Andrews... it humbled the sh** out of me last year. going into my round there..I was shooting money in the mid to high 70's for a good 2 months..played Twisted Dune & Crystal in the same weekend....I was bunker bound on almost every shot...even clean shots that I thought were perfect...bunker bounces...KILLED ME! let's definitely set something up for next Saturday morning or something.

Pics from Turtle Bay this past December. Here I am setup for super draw Final result after I tried the super draw Videos are always better this was all last year...since then i've changed up my driver and woods swing to a 2 plane swing... irons I start off with a slight forward press to adjust my timing issues. really wish I had the video of the 2 drives I crushed at Skyview Golf the other day. both down hill.. drive 1 drove a 360 par 4 drive 2 drove a 385 par 4
