Your favorite -- or least favorite -- golf clichés
DJYoshi replied to Q.Q.Quillume's topic in Golf Talk
how bout when you get a bad bounce off of a green..or a bad roll and someone says: "That's golf" just like someone saying: "that's poker" -
yeah Herb's right. the NY Golf Center has the 3d technology too. they've got all types of swing analysis equipment that the pros use..and only like 10 shops in the country have this.. Herb...where was that spot around you that can repair my clubs at the end of the season? I need them to be rechromed, loft, lie, all that adjusted.... I need to get a quote...if it comes to $300 or more, I might as well just sell them and get the new mp-68's haha

zuno you're in Morris county? there's a GREAT fitter in our area. i'm from Livingston...so not too far from you. http://www.timmosel.com/ Tim runs a shop out in Denville. One of my friends got a set of Miura irons from him years ago and everything was fit and he raves about his experience there. There's also a custom spot out in flanders...btw most country clubs have them too...so why not roll to one and try to barter a deal for a round with the pro on the course?? hmmmm hahaha.

Just wondering if anyone out there uses a 13* wood. I'm in debates of changing my woods over the off season and going with all cb2 woods. I'm currently using burner 3 and 5 woods...and after using my friend's cb2 woods a few times during the last few rounds...i'm getting a lot more pop, distance and control from his set than I do from my woods.

why do people think that golf is easy and not a sport?
DJYoshi replied to sasquatcho69's topic in Golf Talk
I'd have to disagree with that..a ton of people that I know that don't play golf ask me why I waste my time... then they bet they can knock a 300 yard drive out with ease... I'll bet them $100...they accept... and when they see their ball going 200 yards with roll.... they know they stand corrected! -

i don't think it'll cost anything over those crazily priced Mizuno balls....those joints are like $80 a dozen! -
2 hours 4 - 5 times a week in the gym for me.

my pre-shot routine is the same after I decide the shot that I want to play based on the lie...where my target is... if there's anything in the way...etc..... but the time I spend to think about what to do is the longest part... unless it's a straight forward shot where i'm 150 out and then it's like oh yeah..ok 8 iron.... but I really find the more engaged in the shot selection that I am.... the better the turnout...

that's just SICK!!!! 36 holes...and you keep the composure to shoot 2 great rounds.... Sick scores...and if you ended with a cigar and a few glasses of blue or glenlivet 18...i'd call it a perfect day.

I know the basics that hc is based on potential...and your 10 lowest differentials.. but in the past 2 weeks I haven't shot to that potential and had rounds in the 80's and the blow up in the 90's.... but I was still trending downwards.. and I haven't been around the game long... it's my 3rd year of playing. But thank you everyone for the clarification.

I definitely say college. I didn't need college for my field in music... A degree doesn't define me as a DJ/entertainer... but having that degree hanging on my wall is more important to me than any platinum plaque that I've been given... or any accolade that makes me who I am in entertainment... at the end of the day.. entertainment is the way I make a living...but the degree is an important part of my life... b/c if things don't go well?? I have the degrees to fall back on. and why not play in college? Do it for the experience...do it for the challenge and do college and ENJOY IT! I worked my way thru college. I was always booked, away, busy and didn't truly get to enjoy the college life... now that I have to be there to do football games and special events.... I'm kind of mad at myself that I didn't fully take advantage of the following college life - meeting people time and ability to discover what you truly love and who you are and just the life of being a kid... b/c even though at 18 you're old enough to be an adult, vote, go to clubs and smoke.... you're still young... impressionable and don't know who you really are...

I had three terrible rounds this past week and 1 avg round. (95) on a 72.8/138 84 on a 72.4/133 87 " " and yesterday's 75 " " I'm currently listed as a 4.9....but trending down to a 4.3.... I was figuring That the rounds in the 80's were ok..but the 95 would KILL my HC. why would I be trending down...if I had more scores in the past 5 rounds that were way above my HC?

I've been what I'd consider money with the driver most of the year... I fixed the hooks that I got out of nowhere during the off season. 2 weeks ago I hurt my wrist and thumb in my left hand (i'm a righty). Since then, my driver has been struggling. I don't know if it's the injury (partially torn ligaments)..but I'd assume my iron game would struggle more... I've lost distance...and developed a high sweeping fade..... my ball flight looks like me swinging an 11 or 12.5 driver (I use a 9.5 deg. head & stiff diamana white board). I've tried a stronger grip...then I tried weakening the grip and then bringing it back to neutral. I've tried putting the ball further in my stance to allow the face to get back to square.... I just don't know what I'm doing wrong. any suggestions? the only time the ball draws now is if i'm standing EXTREMELY closed...when I try to play a slight draw.... it'll go straighter...but i'm losing a ton of distance..getting EXTREME height...

I saw Paddy doing a drill where as he finishes his backswing..he lifts his left foot up and is completely balanced on his right leg....then he stars his downswing by stepping down with theleft foot and digs it in.... I start my weight transfer as my hands start to bring the club down..a lot of people say I start to shift my weight too early and I lose power.... I just don't have confidence to shift and uncock right before impact b/c my timing sucks when I try to do it.

pops just watched..hung out at the practice area and just ran into people as they were leaving the course after their rounds. he said saturday and sunday... people were a little more serious..but were still really friendly.
-
he missed. it was around a 15 foot putt.. it was only an inch.... tournament play...no doubt I would've asked for a ruling on it...but it was friendly cash game. $1 skin. $5 birdie. $10 eagles. $5+ junk

conditions...WET. RAINING. HUMID... balls were plugging like CRAZY! We said lift, clean place...that's all fine...then we get to the green on a downhill hole.... my opp's ball plugged deep into the green. we got it out and fixed the ball mark as best as we could...but clearly the mark was so bad that if he had put it behind the "attempted to fix" ball mark, it would've made the putt that much more difficult....so I allowed him to put the ball in front of the mark... was I wrong?

my father had a GREAT time. he went 3 days and said all of the players that he spoke to were really nice. A lot of them stayed after to sign autographs....even the marquis groups stayed on the 3rd day to sign stuff for him...shake hands...etc... I'm really kind of mad that I wasn't in town to go!

not completely impossible. in the past month since I went to see an instructor to tweak my swing for the rest of the season.. i've gone from a 9.1 down to a 4.9. I've been having money rounds in the low - mid 70's with 1 of 5 rounds in each week i've played in the low 80's... but my anti HC is still 12...so take the strokes and win some money...just like my brother who's a 36 did against me 2 nights ago and he shot a 110 and I shot 9 over

This is something that I'm trying to figure out. I never really had a lesson or anything in spinning the ball. I just try to read as much as possible. I usually go by..a lower flight would make the ball bite quicker as compared to a higher soft landing ball that'll just release. My shots the past few weeks have done anything from hit once and then check up..to hit once then spin back a couple feet leaving a harder putt or have even spun off the green. So my question is...for those that spin it...how do you judge it and control it better?

it's really 2 shots that I can't stand taking. as soon as I walk up to the ball or step out of the cart and I see it...I CRINGE. On the 18th hole today I was 2 over going in. 435 par 4. It was a great drive and I was only 150 out after the drive.... BUT I had a side-hill down-hill lie... ok right? not a difficult shot... BUT I don't know what it is about that shot that I just CAN'T get right. It was an up hill shot....8 iron right? sure a nice smooth 8 iron. I SKULLED it...SIMPLY SKULLED it a good 90 yards and off to the right. I think my 2 most feared shots are downhill lies and when I have a flat lie, but an aggressive uphill slope is RIGHT after the ball.....any tips on how to play these right?

does golf get more frustrating as you get better?
DJYoshi replied to clearwaterms's topic in Golf Talk
i've found that it has and it hasn't... it's all on who I'm playing with. I get frustrated the most when ALL parts of my game aren't working... usually 1 day i'll be horrid off of the tee...but my recovery and iron/short game is on point... days where I can't buy a par....those are the most frustrating.. but when I 1st started...I started for fun...to play with my pops..etc.. I still have fun...but usually I have more fun when I'm playing better...unless I'm playing with friends then I CARE how I shoot, but it's not the end of the world.... like this week I'm out in North Dakota visiting my best friend.... It was a 210 yard par 3... WAS supposed to play a little draw in with a 4 iron... I setup to draw...I envisioned it....and the ball just hung up and was pin high in the WET bunker....if I were at home...i probably would've gotten upset with myself for not choosing a more conservative shot....but I was with my best friend....I was like oh well..up and down from there...and boom... up and down from there! -
did you feel the ball compress and just jump off the face of the club??? isn't that feeling freakin AWESOME? I think I get addicted to that feeling during golf season
