  1. what course do you caddie at? and I'd say $50 is around avg for greens fees around $90. That's what I normally give. but if I shoot a phenomenal round...and the caddie has helped me get there by giving me reads....telling me what to pull....what kind of shot to play...etc... like what a caddie should do.... then I'll give them more. I've given as much as $100 on top of the fee, and the kid was REALLY cool.
  2. the "hole marker" isn't always what the hole plays at. There should be a plate, a marker or something on the ground that shows you where the actual yardage is from the stated yardage. Then from there, pace out what it is... have you ever heard on TV.... they say... they have the hole listed as x, but today it's playing at y? 1 hole at the course I normally play can be as much as a 60 yard difference if they decide to position it all the way back of the last tier vs. the front of the last tier.... as much as I love my sonocaddie.. I'll still pace out from markers on the ground.
  3. I went back to Bear Brook yesterday...2nd time I played it since last week's 86..and it got better. an 81...I just wasn't comfortable with some holes.... especially when most of your shots are blind shots where you don't pick a landing area. ie: long ass par 5 of 600 up a hill and it's about 230 to carry to the fairway up a hill. then a deceptively difficult par 4 where it's a drive uphill and your 2nd shot is downhill, but unless you drive your tee shot to 100 out you have to aim b/t a house and tree... shots like that made me feel uncomfortable and I have to guestimate or I took conservative swings...and most of the time only pulled a 3 - 5 iron..just to keep the ball in play where I could see the landing area.... But the ball striking was good...and I shot better the 2nd time than the 1st...so I wasn't too upset...
  4. where's your home course? I just looked and have to change the slope & rating of Byrne. it's 72.4/133. I had a different course up on my HC home page... but i'd love to check out your home course 1 day.
  5. I finally updated my HC for the year, and I've been playing phenomenal golf since I went to a swing coach and he fixed all of my bad habits back in May. Here's my thing, I play the same course 4 times a week (Francis Byrne) in West Orange, NJ. It has its good holes, but I consider it to be pretty easy (probably b/c I play there so much). It's a 69.4/121. My scores have been in the mid - high 70's..with a few in the low 70's...and a high of 82. When I went to play a much harder course..and one I've never seen (Bear Brook tips) this past Sunday..I shot a terrible 86...losing a sleeve of balls. My thing is, do you feel that your HC is skewed a bit if you keep playing the same course like I do over and over? It's at the point where if I'm more than 8 over on the day...I feel like it's a failed round.... but when I'm at other courses I rarely play or haven't played yet... I'm happy at shooting in the high 70's/low 80's.
  6. you're a +3. think about it this way. at a +3. the olympics are in 7 years. I bet you could go to Q SChool in a year or 2...hopefully make the tour..and you never know
  7. STRETCH.... at least 15 minutes of it... hydrate....like crazy..even on a cooler day in the 70's i'll still drink a lot. and mentally just try to relax and be prepared to grind it out if the game isn't there.
  8. on average. I have 6 - 8. With a birdie or 2 mixed in there. Recently...like my last 8 rounds... I've been scoring really well (for me at least) I've had money rounds in the low 70's at least 3 times a week...and mid - high 70's the rest of the times. I had a blow up round of 11 over on Saturday..and I say blow up b/c I was 3 over thru 14 and then lost it the last 4 holes.... But during the low 70's rounds... they've been majority par on the holes. today I shot a 73...and had 2 bog's 1 double and 1 bird..the rest were pars... and I've realized..for the most part...when I don't get a GIR.... my entire mentality has changed... it's gone from... get on and 2 putt... to get on and have a tap in left...
  9. when I rush...I play HORRIBLY. The past 3 weeks I've been so money.. but that's b/c I stopped rushing my pre-shot routine. I'll stand behind the ball. look at the lie....look at the target point..think about how I want to hit it.... I timed it.. with my pre-shot routine and actually taking the shot... it's roughly 35 seconds.
  10. I came close once. last year I was 2 under after 15 holes and then I got really nervous. snow man 16, snowman 17. birdie 18. not awesome! anytime I really start to think about it..I let it get to me too much and I get nervous...then I start trying to play conservatively and it never works out for me. ie: #17 at my main course is a 360 par 4. when I'm just having fun, I'll hit driver and try to see how close to the green I can get it (best was 40 yards away). when I'm scoring on a full round.. I'll pull a 3 wood...you know 3 wood..and be left with about 100 left.... most of the time I end up snap hooking my 3 wood into the water instead of drawing it nice.
  11. I'm EXTREMELY lucky. I get to play 3 twilight rounds a week + 1 - 2 full rounds on the weekends... if i'm on the road/tour then I get to play Friday, Saturday & Sunday full rounds...with twilight sessions of course in between.
  12. ain't that the damn truth. last year I ended as a 7.1. This year I'm back to the high 9's... even after shooting consecutive rounds at: 74, 76,76,75 & 79
  13. i try to play as safely as possible and "let the birdies and eagles" come. if i'm 265 out on a par 5... i'm not gonna try to lace a 3 wood... i'd rather hit a smooth 8 and be left with a full PW to the green of where I can really pick a spot and shot and play to my strength.
  14. I agree with the you trying to pay. The 1st time is kind of awesome that he paid for you.... but the 2nd time i'd try to pay myself...and if he says he's got you..then say something like..I got us on a round or 2 of drinks during or after you play.... even it out....
  15. I take 1 or 2 practice swings...sometimes full..sometimes not...just to get me loose and envision the shot...and kind of see my target that I was aiming and the shot I picked was the right one when I was standing behind the ball.... I don't think I slow down play any....I love playing fast golf..but hate rushing shots or making other people rush shots.
  16. I carry an extra ball in my pocket. if I hit a shot ob, then I don't have to go into my bag to get a ball. I can just drop if it's allowed or hit a prov or 3 off the tee if need be without wasting time going into the bag..opening the box...and getting a ball..putting the box back... but I've always carried an extra ball in my pocket. as for gimme's...anything that can be tapped and isn't questionable.. like 6" - 1 foot...that you can just tap the ball in with any club in your bag..i'll give that to people if they want it.... I play into the cup.
  17. waiting really pisses me off... or just rude people... yesterday I was even thru 7. 8th hole...these college kids were taking 4 shots off the tee each.... with a group behind them...they looked at us...bs'd some more..drank more beer....and were like.... oh this is our last hole don't worry. I finished 5 over on the day..but guess what I shot on the 8th hole b/c I was forced out of my element... easiest hole...DOUBLE BOGEY on an easy 335 par 4!
  18. trying to make my way back to Chamber's Bay... Got to play Trump National a few weeks back... And waiting for my friend to invite me to play Baltusrol with her. other than that..a LOT less traveling this year.....
  19. I just put in a PX shaft into my wedges. everything was cool EXCEPT for the sw. the guy didn't cut the shaft...and i really feel and have been playing my SW short. it's usually been my money 85 - 115 club...now it's like 100 if I crank it...and it's a longer shaft. does anyone know if the lie angle would change drastically in a wedge by adding an inch to the standard shaft? I'd rather not cut the shaft b/c I like the length the way the club plays over all..but it's the only club that just feels like the blade is always open...unless i put it way back in my stance.
  20. that's hilarious....some might view it as sexist..but undeniably funny. How bout: Hackers... it's just simple: "you goin to hackers tonight?" "man I took out that slammin waitress at hackers last week" or turnstyle... playing off of "the turn" and mixing it with your own style there's a spot in ny that was called table 50 that I used to DJ at... why? b/c they had 50 tables... or flute.... b/c all of their drinks were served in champagne flutes then the best spot not for a $15 martini - 230 5th. b/c the address is 230 5th ave. then you can have themed drinks like "bunker ball" - take like bailey's since it's brown as your base and start from there. then you can make fun of people who overuse the term: "bite" and call your signature drink: "bite" or "G*d Dammit Tiger" the wedge platter - basically disco fries made with potato wedges the slice - a slice of pizza the hook - a strong a** drink b/c unless you're an expert..you can't control it then instead of supersizing..you can just say: give it to me fat.... or chunky... top balls: basically eggs benedict.. the poached eggs are the ball. the canadian bacon is the dirt..served on an english muffin dyed green. for the health fanatics... you can call a dish grip & "rip"ped - they grip a protein shake and they rip farts when they're done b/c of the protein overdose.
  21. maybe he means carry? 2.5 * 100 = 250 carry and that's optimal launch. my ss is 100 - 105, and I use a stiff shaft. xs is a BOARD to me! but then again..depends on the manufacturer.
  22. isn't tony romo a scratch player? and he shot a 79 at the open qualifier
  23. right on! honestly..I suggest taking the driver head that you like... and going to get fit for a shaft. with all of these interchangeable shaft gadgets out..it's as quick as a pull, push, twist and you're seeing how the shaft effects the ball flights. if you already know what you want for your driver... then try out golfshaftsdepot.com. they're pretty competitive with prices... or you could always ebay it. but as I recall. the whippier the shaft...the more distance you can get out of it...and the stiffer you go..you'll lose SOME distance...but gain more control.
  24. I DID THIS THE OTHER DAY! at my home course (byrne) I started off of the back and was 4 over thru 9. i was in a zone after the turn and after a birdie-bogey-bogey exchange.... i stepped up to the 9th tee... thinking: if I par this, I shoot my all-time low of 75 at the course.. i'll be really happy. since i've been in a FUNK since last september really. it's not a really long hole... 440 par 4. down hill. after the drive i was 127 away. easy pitching wedge right? aim for the middle of the green...and be happy with a par (pin placement was back right of the green...long or right = in thick rough with an uphill flop to try to get up & down). i skulled my wedge into the woods. drop..now i'm hitting 4... from thick rough. uncomfortable distance of 60 yards. and i don't even get out. i end up with a QUAD on the hole! A QUAD! I haven't had a QUAD in ages... probably since the end of my 1st year... i was LIVID. I went from possibly shooting the best round i've ever had to.... CHOKING on the final hole and shooting a 79.... what could've been....
  25. i'm totally gonna bite something similar... maybe even do a simulator type of thing if I can find a program and setup that's affordable... but 1st thing's 1st... revamping my studio... that holds presidence over fiending for golf
