Entire course marked lateral water hazard?
That is Good replied to MyrtleBeachGolf's topic in Rules of Golf
My son graduated from The Golf Academy of America a couple of years ago and The Legends was the students home course/practice facility. I would visit him during the fall & spring and played all three of those beautiful courses, $20.00 each for me as a guest, loved it. Don't remember that sign on the cart, do remember being obviously OB (not even sure if there were white stakes), but we played stroke & distance. Pretty certain iacas is correct on the pace of play thought. This past March we played three of the Disney courses and each time the starter told us the entire perimeter of the course had red stakes, in order to keep things moving. -
Years ago a 4i from 200 out and a 6i from 160. Last season a 9i from 125. All three were for birdies as the tee shots stunk. Still waiting for an ace.

During one of your casual rounds with him, have him write your scores too and start fudging your numbers, once he calls you on it it's open for discussion. By the way... 65 is not old!

Yes, a few years ago and it happened twice during one round. It was obvious that some of the cups were not set at the proper depth.

Sorry for the blank page yesterday. Got some help from iacas. Here it is:

Persimmon woods had inserts which were screwed into the clubface. Even though we all have metal drivers, we still refer to a well struck tee shot as being "nailed on the screws." We're old.

Question...What do you do when....
That is Good replied to antnee94's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Try choking down on the irons an inch or so, stop the backswing when you feel the clubhead is pointing to the sky, then start the downswing with the pulling motion of the left arm, be aggressive (not fast/quick) with the follow through. Once you start qlicking 'em, then lengthen up your grip & swing. Works for me. Give it a shot. -
43 years ago - Oak Hill CC east course. We played the tips. On a few of the par fours we nailed our tee shots with persimmon drivers and still had a 3 wood (or more) left to the green. 10 years ago - TPC at Sawgrass. Played the whites. 17 was 120 yds. into a stiff breeze, my son (12 at the time) teed it up a couple of times with his 3 iron and each hit the green, only to hop off the back into the drink. Then went to the drop zone and got on. I hit an 8 iron pin high, leaving a 20' putt. Right in the heart, but an inch & a half short. Did make the par putt.

Ask if they'd like to join you. If not; then yes, invite them to play through.

Most Valuable Part of Your Game
That is Good replied to thegr8bambino86's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
On a real good day - a bunch of them! If I'm left with a tap in that means my first putt was decently judged. Putting is half the game, in relation to par. It'd be sweet if it was half of my game. I'd be turning in some mid to high 50's on those good days. Two of the courses I play were designed by Donald Ross. The greens are huge, hilly and slick. Two putting them is a true challenge. -

Most Valuable Part of Your Game

Putting. It is half the game and easier to improve upon. On a par 72, the course is allowing you 36 putts for the round. -
Very Funny! I have a snowbird friend who heads to your state in September and returns in June. The snow has been gone for a few weeks now. We had flurries a week & a half ago, but nothing stuck. It's been in the 50's to the 70's for the past week and actually the 40's feel balmy here. Our courses are getting plenty of play.

Whats the one shot that you hate most when you blow it ...
That is Good replied to inthehole's topic in Golf Talk
Yep, I'm guilty of that scenario too. It doesn't happen during every round, but when the first one occurs - paranoia immediately takes over. And I rarely just do it once. It's an amazing feeling when it finally disappears. -

Being 10' off the green with 20' left to the pin (thinking make it or having a tap-in left) and end up blading it across the green or peeking & advancing the ball a couple of feet or less. -
TSA will need to go thru your box. Can't see how you could make it open & close, easily. Check out Craigslist.

Well in that case, congrats on your first bird! Be more aggressive on those birdie putts - 100% of putts that are short, do not go in.
-
Well... it looks like only two. I would've guessed quite a bit more.
-
Really! Hopefully he means the 1st one for this year.

Our league will start this coming Monday. Last season - par four, dogleg right, hit tee shot into the right rough loaded with pine trees. 2nd shot used a 3 iron to punch it onto the fairway (ended up where the tee shot should have been). 3rd shot hit a full 9 iron and knocked it in for a birdie. It's such an easy game.

I'm a whiffer, not very often, but when it happens I count the stroke. My whiffs take place when my backswing or vision is restricted by some sort of vegetation at ground level or low hanging tree branches. It stinks, but I count it. Recently I witnessed a player in our group (he's in the rough with nothing in the way) take a couple of practice swings, then steps up to the ball; grounds the club; hesitates before taking a swing and whiffs. Without missing a beat, he takes two more real quick practice swings and then hits the ball. Scores are announced as we walk off the green and he neglected to include his whiff as a stroke. He knows better. I do not understand. My partner saw it happen also, we let it slide and still won our match. So anyways... I'm a counting whiffer! How about you... do you know any whiffers? Have you ever whiffed & if so, do you count it? And if you have the courage to admit you do not count it, please explain why.

I'd keep the wedges in the bag - more important for scoring. Depending on the course I'm playing, I always have to decide on taking the 5 wood or rescue. I wish 15 clubs was legit!

The 2013 Masters/Tiger Drop Penalty and Fallout
That is Good replied to 3 Putt Again's topic in Rules of Golf
Yes. Because he recorded a lower score for the 15th hole by not including 2 strokes for the improper drop.
