Last (Golf) Thing You Bought?
Jon K replied to JYB's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
i saw the new bridgestone staff bag sittin' there ... it's so sexy. i also had a 300 points coupon and 50 bucks off anything over 250 in my pocket so i bought the damn bag. i have a problem. seriously. i now have three brand new bags. idiot. -
i change mine after every season .. i also play competitively though. i'd probably do yours every other season if you dont want to spend the money every season. if money isnt an issue, do it every season for sure. one thing you can try is taking super hot water ... and a hard kitchen scrub brush and scrub the grip ... this makes them extra tacky ... i even do this on my brand new grips ... it'll make a grip i just purchased more sticky than it was brand new. i do this before every event i play in(one a week).

Mizuno Bettinardi deal... thoughts?
Jon K replied to calvie7's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
My Black Carbon is my favorite stick in the bag. Big + on the bettinardi putters! -
I love phil. Ever since he gave his watch and $200 to the spectator he hit, he's been my fav. What a class act.
-
If you're looking for a club .. I'd def. get a 52 degree. If you don't have a decent pair of shoes, I've get some good shoes(they make a big difference).
-
Phil is so close. I'm wetting myself.
-
Who is going to be the top 3? I'd like to see ... 1.) Phil 2.) Freddy 3.) Tiger If Tiger starts dropping putts, I think he'll take it by a long shot.

Demo'd MP 52s and MP 58s today...wow : )
Jon K replied to tws1098's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Buying the MP58's by the club comes out to about $120 per club. ... plus that's custom fit. Why don't you get PW-8 and then buy the others as you come up with more money ... or you can do this with any other set too .. you don't always have to buy the full set .. most of the time, a player shouldnt be hitting the 3 or 4i anyway. or at least go to GG and get on the mizuno shaft optimizer to see what fits your style. that's freeeeee -
Help choosing a new set of irons
Jon K replied to The_ Astronaut's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
well, they aren't a grand unless you buy the whole set. in my opinion, you shouldnt be hitting the 3i on these ... or the 4i unless you are an amazing striker ... and if you're the good of a striker, you should be hitting the ball professionally. try a 4 or 5 through PW. It'll save quite a bit of dough for you ... and you can always start with getting PW-7 or something and add the other clubs as you come across more dolla bills yall -

stick with one set and throw some hybrids in there. if you plan on lowering your handicap quite a bit over the next couple years, go with the 58's. you won't come to a point where you want more workability -
Am I OCD, or does everyone do this?
Jon K replied to Bullitt5339's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Yep. Another one here that cleans them after every round. Also clean the grips once a week or before any big events with steaming hot water and a rough brush -
I just found a set of these in my area for sale. I'm considering making an offer. I probably wouldn't use them .. just have them in the house for decoration.
-
Carrying two clubs of the same loft/same distance doesn't make too much sense to me ... and since 4irons can be hard to hit depending on the type of club, i'd stick with the hybrid. but of course, whatever you hit better and you're most comfortable with is the way to go.
-
Too bad I can't return my custom set of mp58s, 2 hybrids, 3 wood, driver, 3 custom wedges, 3 sets of clothes, balls, training aids, gloves and everything else i've purchased in the past 3 months. Blah. Let's take some shots and get drunk .. who's down?

I go to the Brookfield store. I know I should have quite a few points and gift certificates coming ... which is why I'm pressing the issue. If it was just a $10 gift cert., I wouldn't waste my time ... this is a bit more. Business day is over and no returned call as promised. Go figure. I can only assume that my purchases are put on different accounts since my receipts show different account #'s. What gets me is that from the looks of it, someone else is getting points and gift certificates due to my purchasing. I'm only assuming that GG will tell me since the points have been put on an account and used, there is nothing they can do.

chipping target net and hitting mat for my basement to practice during bad weather. -
Ughhh. Not a good start. I was hoping not to see any posts like that. Are you going to call them and see what can be done? I'm still waiting for my "call back".

I think 4 woods are going to become real popular soon .. you def. need something ... i would suggest a 3 wood and 3 hybrid .. that's what i use and love it. the gap is just about right for me. i've never hit a 2h so can't comment there. ... but of course hit everything and use what you're most comfortable with. another note .. personally, i think a 3 wood is just as important as a driver and i use mine quite a bit .. you can shape shots better, be more accurate with it, hit it off a tee, fairway or rough, and can dial down on it a bit. you'll have to practice with it a lot to get good with it .. but if you do, it'll def. pay off. i broke a 3w last year and went a few rounds without it ... my confidence going into the round was very low knowing i didnt have my 3w. after having that feeling i decided i'd never again play a round without it. if you're looking for a used 3h, i have a brand new wilson staff fybrid 3 hybrid just sitting here. 9.8 rating condition out of 10. let me know if you want to see pics.

those are pimp. sweet purchase. i never walk but if i become a walker, i'd most definitely get one. let us know how you like it if you pull the trigger.

How many of you guys use this and keep track of your points? I've been a member since 07' .. I usually never sign up for these programs but since I almost always support my local shop and buy there, I decided to sign up. I've spent about $2,500 over this winter off season and today I went to sign up on the website so I can check my points and of course, no account information available. So I call the 800 number and talk to customer-noservice and am told I have no purchases on my account. Interesting since in the past 2 years I've bought two brand new sets of clubs, numerous apparel, balls, training aids, etc. Probably $5,000 worth of stuff since I've signed up. I'm told I'll get a "call back" to let me know what's going on. Since I save all of my receipts, I decided to see if my advantage # in on those ... turns out it is on there, but it seems that 3 different numbers have been used throughout all my purchases. It looks to me like someone else has been reaping the benifits of my purchases ... since I have not once received anything in the mail relating to my advantage club(i.e. coupons, offers, etc.), I'm only assuming I'm not getting my points. Couple of questions ... 1.) Has this happened to anyone else? 2.) For those of you that use this program, how does the point system work and what kind of benefits or coupons do you get? 3.) Why do I always get bent over when it comes to stuff like this? I guess this is more of a rant than anything. Maybe it's time to start shopping online. Hey Golf Galaxy, some advice ... Take Care of the customers that support your local shop and spend too much money with you.
