If Tiger wins the majority forget.

How do you hit the rest of your clubs? Are you happy with the ball flight? If so…..a launch monitor should answer all of you questions----------if not.......see your local pro.
-
If you hit every green in regulation and had 22 putts you would shoot 40…..something ain't adding up…..
-
Take less practice swings, change your "fundamental checklist", and address the ball only once.....that should just about do it. +1

Much better then I thought! I was not expecting too much because I made some equipment changes from last year (changed shafts from PX 6.0 to X100's finally to Rifle 6.5's + I have a new driver). I played my first official 9-hole round this year yesterday. 36 - (5 pars, 2 birdies, 2 bogies) 16 putts 4 fairways (57%) 5 greens (55%) Was extremely happy with my iron play and ball striking. Driving was adequate (2 wayward drives left me no opportunity to hit these greens in regulation). Short game left little to be desired (up-n-down percentage was a whopping 33% - 1 for 3).

Brandt Snedeker has to be the fastest from the time he addresses the ball to the actual shot.....dude flies

Played my first official 9-hole round this year. 36 - (5 pars, 2 birdies, 2 bogies) 16 putts 4 fairways (57%) 5 greens (55%) Was very happy with my iron play and ball striking. Driving was adequate although nothing felt completely solid (2 wayward drives left me no opportunity to hit these greens in regulation). Short game left little to be desired (up-n-down percentage was a whopping 33% - 1 for 3). Overall I was very encouraged. Going from a combo set to all blades and changing shafts from PX 6.0 to Rifle 6.5's hopefully will payoff!

Yearly dues, minimums, etc (membership fees only) - $1500 Other local courses played throughout the year - $300 Tournament entry fees - $250 Golf trips (2 per year) - $700 Equipment - $400 Gas money - $400 Gambling money - $500 Yearly expenditures - $4050 [roughly $340 a month (realistically it's more like $500 a month because I only get to golf 8 months a year.)] ***The gambling portion (if all goes according to plan) will (and has) come close to paying my yearly expenditures

Players Irons or Game Improvement Irons
Bump-n-MI replied to mcotter's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Best advise in this thread. Lots of companies now carry blended / combo sets. The transition from blade to cavity was perfect in my combo set. Basically you get the best of both worlds: added control from your short irons (blades) and the extra forgiveness in your longer irons (cavities or GI). Who says they make the game harder? I don't care what studies have been done and I couldn't care less how many pros carry cavities or game improvement irons. Bottom line for me is I hit blades better then bulky, frumpy, gaudy game improvement irons…..and that is the only reason they are in my bag, period. -

I'm in the market for a new set of wedges
Bump-n-MI replied to Chipper's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I never understood why so many people place such emphasis on spin. Too much spin sucks, period. Spinning a ball back 15 feet was cool the first time I did it….now it just shows lack of control and leads to inconsistency. I have said this before but if you hit a shot and it spins off the green….well….it was not a good shot. The goal is to get the ball as close to the hole as possible, not to see how much you can get it to spin. -
What should Putter Length Be?
Bump-n-MI replied to Termduke's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Perhaps, but it does not pertain to the OP question. Religion talk has no place in the EQUIPMENT section -
What should Putter Length Be?

About the only good and useful advise in this thread. -
I'm sure you can attest that they look as good as they play. I picked these up last year for $200…they maybe had 6-10 rounds in them. I pulled the S300 shafts and tried Rifle 6.5's and X100's, finally settling on the X100's. I played the J36 Combos with PX Flighted 6.0's for the past 1 1/2 years. They too were/are great clubs but I couldn't stand the 4 and 5 pocket cavity irons and lost my love for the flighted shafts….so I had to buy an entirely new set . So far I have gained oodles of control but have given up a few yards. I'll take that trade off any day of the week. They may not be for everybody but I have more confidence now then I've had in a while. Latitude

Strange topic. I'm sure many (if not all) of you use equipment that is best suited to your ability, cost effective, and that is aesthetically appealing (in that order)….ideally we should all rate our own equipment a 10, correct. I'm not a fan of Taylor Made anything or Vokey wedges or Titleist drivers. What criteria are you guys using? Looks, performance, cost, etc… My clubs perform the best for me so they get a 10. Everyone else…. > 10. I would only expect one of you to rate mine a 10 if you use (or want) the exact same equipment. Interesting nonetheless.

The better deal, what do YOU think
Bump-n-MI replied to Twigs199's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Not sure what point you are trying to prove. The Titleist iron price is good but it's only part of the equation….that is if you plan to carry a full set of clubs. Add the cost of a bargain basement bag, driver, 3-wood, and wedge(s), and putter you could be looking at another $200 (which is a very conservative estimate). If your budget is $200 then the Walter Hagen set is the better deal. If your budget is more I'd keep shopping. FYI...If you get fairly serious about the game you will outgrow the Hagen's fairly quickly. If you plan on playing a couple times a year they should be just fine. -
Understood, my point was the Srixons, Clevelands, Bridgestones, etc in the US are not often seen in the average Joes bag. They are the little guys in iron sales compared to the Pings, Taylor Mades, Titleists, etc...
-
Let me ask this question. Do the best ball "strikers" in the world have any natural athletic ability? My point, there is more to the golf swing then just the mental part.
-
…..now that you quantified and proved that it can be done I now believe that I can "strike" the ball as good as anybody else in the world (of course with due practice) …...if only it were that easy
-
I guess since there is no quantifiable way to prove this we will just agree to disagree……but I couldn't disagree more !!!!
-
You are kidding…right ?
-
I am totally with you! Many golfers convince themselves that those who are better got that way because they practice more. I too think that is BS. You either have "it" or you don't. Sure there are exceptions but natural athletic ability will rule just about every time.
-
Hit these the other day....bad azz clubs...definitely some of the best I have ever hit! Give the little guys a shot too.
-
Are you serious !?!?! Overstepping your boundaries a bit aren't you chief? There would be problems beyond all comprehension if some random person told my children to defy me. Might want to mind your own business next time. Back to the OP. Banned….hell no. Are some annoying, yes. Better learn to deal with it because there is no chance they will ban drivers.

Last (Golf) Thing You Bought?
Bump-n-MI replied to JYB's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Not sure this constitutes as a store but I picked up 6 new Ashworth and 4 Antigua shirts, a couple hats, and 2 pair of shorts from the Michigan Golf Show last weekend (plus a new 5 wood…still not sure why I bought that ).
