2. Way to go! Congrats!!
3. Today I've finished the negotiations with the investers: I'm starting my own company! Can't say much about it yet as I'm wandering into a seemingly untouched market.
4. I don't :) I am considered a long hitter, but it's nothing compared to what people are posting here ;) (I hit my 4wood about 240 meters)
5. Can't change it, isn't me. I'm a quite average looking Caucasian guy without a green thumb ;) (And I can't seem to edit my post)
6. I visit this site on my tablet, can't even see avatars. I haven't set this one for sure :D I'll check if I can see it and maybe change it to something more personal ;)
7. I used to be very happy with FJ myself, but the latest addition (Project M) lost a cleat after maybe 5 rounds of playing. What's up with that! Never ever lost a cleat before!
8. I drive a Mini, so I'd say my drive isn't that big :)
9. This Monday I played on a par71 course, from the white tees with a CR of 129. So why post in this thread? Well the people I played with said they played a 16 and 21 handicap: they did not.. I counted about 5 OB balls on the gentleman, another 3-4 mulligans and any ball within about two feet of the pin wasn't counted anymore. He said he played 32 stablefords. I think he played about 105 shots, not including penalties. The woman was good from the tees, but not that good on the fairway. In all honesty she could have played about a 25-26 handicap, better then he did. Annoying part is that they where constantly pushing me to play faster. After the fourth hole I 'cocooned' myself: played my own game, tried not to interfere with them other then complementing them on good balls and good putts... On the tenth I lost it though, my hands where sweaty as hell and after all their pushing I decided not to wipe my hands and grip. Result: I simply lost my club in the swing.. It flww out of my hands just after I hit the ball.. I came off the par3 with a triple, didn't like it either but I wasn't going to give myself a mulligan. ;)
10. A new towel and a dozen balls: TaylorMade BRZ Urethane. The covers of those balls aren't very good, one in three shows cracks after a good hit.. I'm going to send them back :(
11. First question that comes to mind: why cock the hands before the take away? Look at the way Rory takes away or Tiger or whomever you like. Study it, mimic it, video yourself, study it, compare it, mimic better. Certainly helped me in my take away, I'm coming through the ball better, almost no pushes to the right anymore. :) And you're trying to hit it so damn hard, could you show us about a 75-80% swing in speed? One that feels relaxed and one that feels on the slow side maybe?
12. Equipment is very expensive here. Example: Pro V1 balls.. Cheapest I've found is about €52/dozen (new) that's just over $67 Another example: Clic gear 3.0 cart €189 or $245 Taylormade R1 with stock shaft and grip: €349 and that's $452 I'm in the market for a new driver, looking at a Titliest 913D3 with a custom shaft (not all too exotic), will set me back about €500 at least, that's $650 without doing anything exotic. I'm thinking of paying for a fitting so I don't have to buy the equipment, I can save hundreds of dollars on the driver, shaft for the wood and the hybrids alone.
13. I use the TM RBZ' Urethane's whenever I feel less confident about my swing. Pro V1's when it's going the way I want to. Our greens are slow and hard, so it's imperative to be able to stop the ball. Also: I gladly lose 10% distance for the nice smooth feel of these softer balls if it makes them stop on the greens :)
14. I eat on the course, have trained myself to eat small bites every 20 minutes. I drink water mostly, but take a banana/pineapple smoothie with me and start drinking that at the tenth hole. It's low calorie, but high on fruit sugars. Other then that I drink water, maybe about a liter. This is not taking me out of the game, but keeping me focused. There's people I play with that don't eat and I see them scoring worse in the last six holes. The eaters tend to keep their scores more or less equal once the last 6 holes arrive. Also: we all walk, you don't see many players using carts here.
15. If you read correctly.. I bought those brand spanking new and had them fitted, somewhere 12-13 years back too. Don't remember the exact shaft in the driver (I'm thinking an Aldila), club is in the car and I'm inside :P
16. Let me see.. PING TISI driver about €600 PING Anser 4 wood about €235 PING ISI irons: 1,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,W,S2,LW €1500 Vokey lob wedge €135 Odyssey dual force mallet 330 €250 Scotty Cameron Circa 62 #1 €200 (eBay, demo club) Odyssey black series 1 €129 (eBay, demo club) Clic gear trolley and bag €400 Ping super light carry bag €229 Shoes, clothing, and small miscellaneous stuff I'd say about €750 I have and Odyssey 52 degree wedge somewhere. Maybe the worst club I ever bought, was €130-ish I think. Driver is the most expensive I've ever bought, crazy prices back 10-11 years back. Three putters isn't that bad, somehow I don't really like the Scotty though and the mallet is too heavy. I want a new driver, that'll probably set me back another €500-700 depending on the shaft. And with that I'll break €6000 spent on equipment (in 14 years). All but hat odyssey wedge and the ping lob wedge was fitted, so yes I buy retail and I spend much more on the same stuff. But I have the shafts that are best for me and the lie and length that suits me best.
17. jeck: I'm sorry but this is bad advice. You can't tell someone whose length and weight and "WTF" you don't know he needs a certain length of clubs. Captainhook: go see a fitter! They'll measure you up, look at the length of your clubs, the lie and the stiffness of the shafts, but also the size of your grips as this could be a factor. We don't know anything about you other then that your name doesn't correspond with the kind of shots you say you produce ;)
18. I voted the Vokey as I personally have just a better feel with them. They felt a bit softer to me and I can hit the ball just a bit better in bad conditions. That being said the Mizuno's are great clubs and it's also in the mind of the guy swinging them. Oh and I love the look of the new Callaways that are coming! I'm saving to buy myself a new 52-56-60 set and I haven't decided just yet :)
19. I've had the luck to caddy in Nationwide and international events, where the courses are close to or equal to PGA conditions. I've just caddied at the National Amateur championships and what I can tell you is that an event like that is way harder then most people think. Greens are way faster, pressure is absolutely a big big factor and not getting your FIR and GIR in check means at least a bogey if not a double. My educated guess is most scratch to 4 handicappers won't break 80, and if you're not used to this kind of competition it will be really hard to break 85. I personally guess I'd have a hard time breaking 90 as my mental game isn't very good and I can totally whack a drive 20 yards off course sometimes. Mind you, I did not compete as my handicap is too high. I'd play about a 75-76 on a good day and a mid 80 on really bad days (like today: with a quadruple, triple and double bogey after nearly hitting someone in my flight that suddenly walked into my line mid-swing. That was crazy scary, couldn't shake it off :( )
20. Wel stop trolling and start playing! I've recently started again myself and I'm having a blast!
21. Don't forget the course for those events is (way) longer with fairways that are harder to drive too. I saw a 255 yard par3 on TV recently, I don't know many courses that have a 250+ yard par3 from the back tees :)
22. I don't do handicaps, I count shots. It's nice to see a round with way over 36 stableford points, but when I can shoot an eleven on a par3 and still manage to improve on my handicap.. Something's off ;) I did play a round of 82 yesterday, 41 in and 41 out. (SI of 135) Worst was a double bogey after I hit a driver OB. That's the consistency we all aim for I guess, when your worst score is a double after hitting something OB or in a water hazard.
23. Another clic gear 3.0 here.. It's exactly what I wanted, though my previous cart (2 weeler, pull type) folded WAY smaller. Had less wheels and was not that sturdy though ;)
24. Here's mine Newest addition What you see (and don't see) PING TISI 8.5 degree driver PING Anser 4 wood PING ISI 1,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,Wedge,Sandwedge,Lobwedge with ZZ-65 shafts Scotty Cameron Circa 62 #1 Clic gear B3 bag Clic gear 3.0 cart Todo: - New driver - Add hybrid - Add gap wedge (PING ISI 52 degree Sandwedge) - New putter for European greens (SLOW!) - Have the set checked for loft, lie, bounce And yes that's a Mini on the background.. Absolutely love it, but needs to go as we're expecting a baby mid September :)
25. First of all: I'd love to lose length to gain aim :) Driver: ~265 yards 4w: ~235 yards 1i: ~230 yards (off the tee only) 3i: ~210 yards 4i: ~195 yards 5i: ~185 yards 6i: ~174 yards 7i: ~161 yards 8i: ~148 yards 9i: ~135 yards W (48*): 120 yards SW (56*): 90 yards LW (60*): 75 yards And I'm considered a long(ish) hitter. :) Also: I have a very old driver, if I swing all out it'll go further (295 yards isn't an exception), but I lose a lot of fairways in regulation then.
