  1. Its interesting to me that some people say "its too mechanical" or "too technical". Those are usually "feel" players. While I admit it isn't for everyone, I've found that Pelz's 4x3 wedge system has actually improved my feel. Before I started practicing his system, I had no idea what a 30 yard shot felt like. I would hit shots all over the place until I got a few that felt right. But then I couldn't replicate it on the course. After practicing Pelz's system and getting my distances down reasonably well with each "time", I found that I could play in-between distances with much better feel. Just my experience, YMMV.
  2. Your second shot is going to be a tough one
  3. As a beginner you really need to work on everything. Split your time between finding your full swing and putting. Then throw in more short game time as your full swing develops.
  4. Four, unless you count the foot wedge, then five (just kidding, I don't use my foot wedge).
  5. I like the ladder drill. Many ways to do this, but the most basic version is where you set 7 balls down at 2 ft, 3ft, 4ft, etc. Start at the closest ball, and you have to make each one or you start over. After failing to make all 7 for the 20th time, you discover that you are now bullet proof from 2, 3, and 4 feet. I also regularly do the "Putting Square". Find a hole that has some slope. Put 4 tees in the ground around the hole, 3 feet out, so you have a straight uphill putt, a straight downhill putt, a left-breaking putt, and a right-breaking putt. Start with the uphill putt. You must make 3 in a row in order to move to the next tee. Count your misses. After going all the way around at 3 feet, move the tees back to 4 feet and do the same thing. After going around at 4 feet, move the tees back to 5 feet. When you've gone all the way around at 3, 4, and 5 feet, add up your total misses. My best is 18 misses. My worst is somewhere upwards of 60.
  6. Great diagram, thanks! You IT folks can just whip that stuff up... its cool.
  7. Please post with what happens. Hope I didn't offend with my comment about technophobes!
  8. Very interesting! I didn't know that about the lower CG. Can anyone explain the physics of how that happens?
  9. Interesting, but seems like too much work. And too expensive ($9 per course). With Scorecard, you only have to keep 5 things for each hole, right on your scorecard, or on the printout from the program. And 34 different stats are generated from those 5 items.

    Golfer's Elbow

How painful is it? If you had to rate it on a scale of 1-10, where 1 is "just annoying" and 10 is "so painful I can barely use my arm", what would you rate it? The reason I ask it this: if the pain is high, say above a 6, then you definitely need to rest first along with NSAID's like Ibuprofen or Aleve. Ice it daily, or several times a day if possible, for about 10-20 minutes at a time. As cold as you can stand without getting frostbite. If the pain is more mild, say a 1,2, or 3, then you should treat with NSAID's and ice but start a regimen of physical therapy to strengthen the affected area. Google "golfer's elbow" and "tennis elbow" and you can find some good strengthening regimens. If the pain is in the middle, its a tougher call, but my advice would be to rest for a week or two with NSAID's and ice, then start the training regimen while continuing the ice.
  11. Yeah, that seems pretty weak. Give them a call and ask about the course mapping guarantee. On their website they say if they can't map your course in 4 days, you get a free accessory. I would think that if they can't map Pro mode, what's the point? In my opinioin it depends on how well you deal with new technology. I've been using smartphones for many years and I've just learned to accept that most hi-tech hardware has a few bugs. I think the uPro has a lot fewer bugs than most of the smartphones I've had over the years. I've read a lot of those negative reviews and most of them strike me as people who are either technophobes or expect a brand new device to be perfectly error free. I think they are pretty swamped right now with support requests and mapping requests, which can be good (lots of sales) and bad (overworked customer service people). I guess my advice would be to wait until your home course is mapped and they have some time to become more established. No point in spending $400 when you can't use it on the course you play the most.
  12. Apparently I'm a "Leverage Player" but I have no idea what that means.
  13. Yeah, I know they can mark distances on the course. But my point was that in most situations you can't mark distances on the range. There are some driving ranges that SkyGolf has mapped, but how do you know the pin is in the same place that SkyGolf marked? Anyway, I have a GPS that I love for playing, but I have a laser for use at the range. He who dies with the most toys wins
  14. Umm, a laser would work too. And if they move the markers a Sky Caddie won't be accurate either.
  15. Make an appointment, dress nice, and tell them you are considering a membership but would like to play the course first. Most clubs are happy to let you play for the guest rate if you are pondering a membership. Just don't expect to play for free.
  16. I emailed the support department at uPlay about this on Wed or Thurs, I think. By this morning, a fix was posted! I had also complained that the name of the course was too long to read on the uPro, which truncates course names at about 25 letters. (the name read "Fox Hollow at Lakewood - The Links" and "Fox Hollow at Lakewood - The Canyon"). They shortened the name at the same time as making the other fix. Good customer support!
  17. Just curious, how do you mark in Scorecard for a drive that goes dead straight up the fairway, but lands in a bunker in the middle of the fairway?
  18. Oops, sorry about this, I posted this on the wrong thread!! Not sure how that happened.
  19. Just curious, how do you mark in Scorecard for a drive that goes dead straight up the fairway, but lands in a bunker in the middle of the fairway? Just leave it blank?
  20. Also because at most courses, the rough isn't that long, and often the ball is sitting up making it even easier to hit than from a tight fairway lie (for mid and high handicappers)
  21. Congrats! If you want to donate your copy to me, I will accept. :)
  22. Off the tee, or off the deck? Off a tee, I'm only confident up to about 200 yards. Off the deck, if I have a good lie, I will try to carry anything that is a 7 iron or shorter. Long iron to get across means I lay up.
  23. Well, its actually a hypothetical. I was going to purchase my copy this week, then I saw this thread and thought I'd wait just in case. I assume the winner will be posted today? In that case I'll be purchasing my copy later this afternoon!
  24. What happens if I win, but I recently purchased a copy of Scorecard?
  25. I'm looking forward to hearing about your experience with the uPro. Hopefully you will like yours as much as I like mine. One comment I will make is that if you do experience any issues, call them rather than email or go through the website. I think the customer support is better over the phone, although I've had decent support both ways.
