Putting AXIVCore Tour Black in my 909D3
Hokie2k5 replied to deronsizemore's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I've hit it, while the ball flight was way too high for me the shaft felt really good. I'm still thinking of putting a AXIVcore Tour Red (or Green when it comes out) in my 3 wood. They are really good shafts for the money. Also, my driver plays 44.5" and it's really helped with accuracy. Distance has actually stayed the same or even increased a little since I'm hitting the sweet spot more consistently. -
uh oh, my D3 isn't as straight as my 905r was...
Hokie2k5 replied to erikpmort's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Same with me, I had the 905R for about 1 month. I never hit it well and ended up dumping it for a Callaway FT-5. I liked the 907 decently enough but i LOVE the 909. The feel is far superior to anything I've played since the 975D (man that was a long time ago). -

The extra .5" could be making a difference as well you may have a harder time squaring up the face even if you choke up. Everyone else is right though, go get fitted. It's the only way you'll know for sure. -
Bought a new Driver shaft... Fujikura Rombax
Hokie2k5 replied to ScottL's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I don't personally have it but it's a great shaft. The Rombax series is Fuji's best tons of players on tour use them. 58 grams is a pretty light shaft but if you like light it should work well for you. They are pretty expensive shafts so you might want to get fitted to be sure first. -
While I guess I can understand Nike wanting to put out a premium putter line, I would think that people looking to spend that much money on a putter are going to buy a Scotty. Unless they can get TW to start gaming one.

Any of y'all not carry hybrids?
Hokie2k5 replied to Laxplayer201092's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
No hybrids in my bag, I bought one and took it out after about a month of never hitting it straight. I hit my 3 and 4 irons plenty long, high and straight. No need for one. -
Quick Question on adjustable drivers
Hokie2k5 replied to leftcoastsrt04's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Sort of, I doubt anyone could do it with much consistency. I think the idea behind the adjustable clubs is to take the same swing and get different ball flights and also to lock in fitting specs. I think it's a bit too much for me, I have enough trouble trying to put the same swings on the ball. -
I would be interested in this as well.

Titleist 909 d3 w/ matrix ozik xcon shaft
Hokie2k5 replied to ScottyCameron's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
None of them are the same as the "real" aftermarket versions but they are pretty close. They all are made by the actual vendor (Mitsubishi, Aldila, Matrix) but are made to try and fit the general public and supposedly specificially designed for the 909 heads. My clubfitting guy said that the "made for" matrix and the "actual" matrix are made from different materials which is why there's such a cost difference. As to whether it's a good shaft or not it totally depends on your swing. You may well test out perfectly on a stock shaft and you may not. Get fitted on a launch monitor and see what specs out the best for you. FWIW, i have 2 buddies that are gaming the same driver as you and love it. Hopefully it works out well for you. -
Product cycle- Ap 2-909 drivers
Hokie2k5 replied to Golf till death's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Titleist is releasing new irons this fall. They are making some slight changes to the current AP2 and re-releasing them. So if you are going to upgrade, I would buy a 909 driver now and wait for the irons to the fall IF you must have the newest stuff on the market. If you like the current AP2's you can just get them now since the price has dropped a bit since they came out or wait until the new models come out and the price drops a lot more. -
Titleist D3/Voodoo - what is ballooning?
Hokie2k5 replied to flanagan's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
You shouldn't suffer any distance loss with the D3 vs. a G10. It sounds like the Voodoo isn't right for your swing. I had the same problem with a fairway wood, I bought the stock Voodoo and liked the way it felt but it was ballooning on me and spinning way too much. You can also get the factory to tip the stock Voodoo 1/2" and it plays more like the aftermarket Voodoo and should cut down on the ballooning. I would recommend trying as many shafts as you can with the D3 head, most big golf stores having the 909 fitting cart where you can hit a lot of different options. Shafts make a giant difference in a perfect driver fit. I just went and got professionally fitted with my driver (after I had been fitted for a 909D3 with V2 by Titleist demo day guys) and it's made all the difference in the world. I'm hitting the ball on a better trajectory, more accurately, and consistently 15+ yards farther than with the V2 setup. Good luck. -
I saw some spy pics and I like the irons and new woods. The I-15 driver looks awesome, I love the all black look.

Differing Sky Caddie Yardages
Hokie2k5 replied to ukalum's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Yes, I know two people that have Sky Caddies SG3 and an SG4 and yardages were way off (5-8 yards) while standing in the same spot. They sent the SG3 back to Sky Caddie and the factory claimied there was nothing wrong with it. The SG3 has since gone in the trash can. -
lets have a talk about 909 drivers
Hokie2k5 replied to erikpmort's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have the 909D3 and absolutely love it, I've done a little shaft tweaking to get the right ball flight but if the stock Voodoo works for you then go for it. -
Help with older titleist irons
Hokie2k5 replied to maraca2020's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
The only way is to get lucky and find them used in a store. Otherwise you'd just have to take the information on the website and choose what's best for your swring type. (if you are a High ball hitter - 670/680, Low ball hitter - 690) -
Help with older titleist irons
Hokie2k5 replied to maraca2020's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
http://www.titleist.com/historical_c...ory.asp?cat=if That should get you a pretty good comparison of the different models. I had the 690.MB's a few years back and really liked them. I wish I would have bought the 670s to get a little lower ball flight but they came out after I already bought my 690's. Hope this helps. -
Good luck with the fitting.....they are always fun to mess around with different stuff and see what's best. You're on the borderline of Stiff vs. X-Stiff. You might want to try a little bit heavier shaft too to see if it helps with control.
-
I've always heard that brand new shafts play a little stiffer than they will after they are hit for awhile. Whenever I get a new driver, I've always thought the shaft plays a bit tighter than it does after a few rounds/range sessions.
-
You're more than likely right........there's also a chance he bought a flex that's too weak for him and after a few weeks of playing with it it's loosened up a little bit and he's having trouble controlling it. That used to happen to me before I swtiched to X-flex shafts. But......there's a better chance you're right

TM 2008 Burner Driver: Regular or TP?
Hokie2k5 replied to incognit0's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I would recommend that non-TP Burner driver, if you are a high-handicapper you will benefit from the slightly closed clubface as well as a lighter (and assuming higher-launching shaft). As for loft and flex I'm not really sure, if you're hitting drivers 205-215 a regular flex would probably suit you. As for loft, probably the higher the better......the higher loft the better as it helps keep sidespin off the ball. Though you don't want to be skying the ball either.... Hope this helps -
The stock Voodoo sucks, I got it in my 3 wood in X flex and it felt like a twig and ballooned all over the place.
-
I've had one since January and love it. I never hit an R5 but 909D3 has been equal to or better on mis-hits than anything else I've hit. And I agree, the 909D2 did look to big at address. The D3 looks much better.

Help - 906f 3W or 5W, which should I get?
Hokie2k5 replied to PhilsRHman's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have trouble hitting the shallower faced F4 off a tee, so I would recommend an F2 if off the tee is primairly what you're looking for. If you're hitting it 290+, you're swinging faster than 105 mph and you should probably look for an X-stiff shaft to help with control, especially in a fairway wood. I would say a 5W would get you closer to the 240-250 range if you're hitting your driver close to 300 yds. The 906's have a good offereing of stock shaft so you should be able to find something good on ebay for pretty cheap. -
I have the Newport 2 and love it.

The non-TP Motore shaft is a "Made for" version and not the same as the actual Motore which is standard in the TP version. Plus, you can upgrade to a few other top dollar shafts (Voodoo, Matrix Ozik, Fubuki) at no charge (I think). As for if it's worth it, it all really depends on the player and the golf swing. Lower handicappers tend to see the bigger improvements in ball flight and distance moreso than the higher handicappers but there is nothing wrong with the "Made for" shafts, they are made with the same materials by the same company they are just designed for the majority of golfers.
