  1. For me it is very simple. If the group behind you is waiting because of your group, wave them through 100% of the time. Your pace of play is irrelevant.
  2. I have another scenario for you. I have a son who is almost 7. We go play a course that he can play the entire course from the red tees, (only three sets). His best score this year is 104, he wants to break 100 before going back to school. If he does, there will be much celebration and I will consider it quite an accomplishment for him. The last time we played the course, I shot 68. 3 under from the tips. Is that an accomplishment for me? Sure, I have only been on the 60's a couple of times in my life and the last time was probably 15 years ago. Now I will tell you the course has a slope of 113 and a rating of 70. I will also tell you, ZERO bunkers, completely flat, little OB and only one hole with water that really doesn't come into play. I will also tell you the course is 5300 yards from the tips. So does Dad brag about a 68 on this course, NO I do not, Will Dad brag when his 6 year old son breaks 100 from the reds on this course, DAMN right because the course is STILL to long for him from the Reds.
  3. Quote: Further searching leads you to some video where you see these kids playing par 4s of 150 metres or less and Par 3s of 50 metres from "tees" planted in the middle of the fairways, miles from the real tees. The kids are cute, they hit it nicely...that's not the point. So if there were 'actual' tee boxes that reflected the yardage the kids played, call them preteen or super junior tees, then your problem with the score disappears? I mean if a 10 year old in little league bats .625 you don't honestly compare that batting average to a major league average, do you?
  4. IMO the right hand determines the distance you hit the putt (standard right hand low grip). But I could be the only one this works for. Try it, you may find yourself rolling putts in one handed.
  5. I am in if you will take a TST newbie who also happens to be a fat old man,
  6. What works for me is to practice lag putts one handed. I am right handed and use a traditional right hand low grip. So I practice lag putts just using my right hand, choking down to keep control of the club and stick my left hand in my pocket.
  7. I too at times have the same problem. I will hit a nice push draw with all of my clubs and get to the driver and what feels like the exact same swing has the result of a push or a push fade. My only reasoning is, because of driver shaft length, I cannot get to the ball from the inside line of my swing therefore I come over the top to be able to reach the ball without hitting the ground behind the ball first. Whether factual or just my mental image who knows. (I suspect it's 100% mental as is the usual case)
  8. I think one thing that really improves my swing is to pick a short iron that reaches one of the target greens at the range. I hit an entoire bucket with that one club at that one target. Anywhere between a 7 iron and wedge. Builds a lot of confidence to hit your target over and over and over and over.
  9. I am just the opposite lol. I love the cold and I seem to play better, I think the extra clothing limiting my swing actually helps me.
  10. I would rather play below zero than above 90, but fall in the midwest or winter in AZ.
  11. Ummm, math problem?? :)
  12. Thanks for the input. It's funny, I will switch grips during a round sometimes. I almost always use the Vardon for greenside bunker shots and interlock for flop shots. Just drives me crazy not being able to find one comfortable grip and sticky with it.
  13. My swing thought for hitting a draw is trying to hit a baseball to right field (right handed). I also change my eye focus to the bottom of the ball, instead of the back of the ball.
  14. I am curious what everyone uses. I broke the pinky finger on my right hand when I was 10. That finger is pretty funky. Consequently, I have tried and played successfully with every style of grip out there, but that pinky causes me problems, so my 'go to' grip is the 10 finger with thumbs running down the shaft, not a true baseball grip. The 10 finger is the only grip that allows me to feel in control of the club 100% of the time. Because of my pinky when I use the Vardon or Interlock I tend to vise grip with the little finger because I cannot feel it otherwise. Just looking for feedback. Had a Dr buddy tell me one time to cut the pinky off, lol.
  15. I guess we all have different experiences at our various clubs.
  16. Even joining a private club doesn't solve the problem 100% of the time, can you get a 4 hour round on a Sunday afternoon? I disagree that it would be a risk for the course, I think it would make it easier for the course to enforce pace of play and also attract golfers that know what to expect and willing to pay extra for the benefit. We charge a premium here to guarantee a four hour round. You must keep pace, you get one warning then you must leave the course. Something along those lines. The thing is, IMO, you would fill the course with people who know how to play ready golf and would eliminate the more recreational golfer. Although, I think it would only work in a metro market where there are a lot of course choices. I think a course could set themselves apart and attract a lot of people who want four hour rounds.
  17. I played a couple of weeks ago at a cow pasture course with my almost 7 yo son. On the second tee, a 120 yard par 3, we caught up with the group in front of us, a fivesome. We sat there are watched all 5 tee off, not a single one coming within 10 yards of hitting the green. They started to get in their carts are drive away, when I spoke up and said fellas, we are a twosome. My comment got them arguing amongst themselves. One guy adamantly stating if they let us play through, they would be doing that all day. I laughed and said fellas, we are playing through and will be out of your way in less than 5 minutes. I teed it up and hit my wedge to about 20 feet, with them still arguing. My son walked up to the red tees and hit his hybrid inside of Dad. I missed my putt and my son drained his, it was a really great moment.
  18. I have a semi-related question. Would you be willing to pay a premium green fee to guarantee a round in a specified amount of time? Is there a market for a course to raise fees say 50% but guarantee 4 hour rounds or your money back, something along those lines?
  19. 215 yards. In July of 1959 when my mom was 6 months pregnant with me. I had to have added something to the shot, right? That's my ace story and I am sticking to it.
  20. thomasgolf.com Thinking about buying from them, just curious of any feedback.
  21. Everyone nailed it, it's easy and cheap. And if you are like me and don't care about reminders etc, you don't even need a vice or any other alignment aide. Just slide them on and tap the butt
  22. Grips should be fitted for your hand size. I am right in between a midsize and a jumbo. Too big of grip you tend to leave face open, too small and you close it early. So if arthritis isn't an issue, you should not by Jumbo grips unless your hand is large enough. If you can re-grip yourself (learn it's easy) then you can experiment cheaply spending a few dollars re-gripping a couple of clubs and going to the range to see how you like.
