Yeah well how many people listen to indie as opposed to Rap and Pop? It's horrible. When it comes to musicians having talent and being able to play their instruments any form of progressive metal, hell metal beats anything else my generation can throw at them.

I'm glad you said something about that. I was playing someone once who normally took practice swings next to his ball but while I was playing him for a spot on varsity in high school he managed hit his ball into some high grass and took some practice swings behind his ball. (taking out all the grass behind the ball) Giving him a nice lie and a nice shot. I never did speak up about it. It would have been a charlie foxtrot of a situation.

I'm sure we're all aware of that Leek.

You're good to go with a Sand Wedge (56 degrees) You don't need a lob wedge.
-
hahahaha that's hilarious.

Yeah good luck with that in my neck of the woods. That shot would be just as hard, if not harder than the flop-shot. It's such a finesse shot. Now depending on how deep into the rough you are, you could use the toe of your putter if it's a blade style. But more times than not using a iron, wedge, or even a fairway wood or hybrid will be the better bet.

Eh none of you are going to believe it, but I'm going to tell you anyway. I didn't actually see it, but it happened during a members tournament a few years back. My cousin who happened to be 17 at the time ripped a drive on a par 4 at the club I play for. It's 444 yards long, flat, and straight I kid you not his drive rolled up on the front of the green and interrupted one of the members that was putting. Now that 444 is measured from the tees to the middle of the green, so I would give him approximately a 430 yard drive. He did have a slight breeze behind him that obviously assisted him a bit. But he hits the ball farther than anyone I have ever seen. He is 6'5 and a solid 250 pounds. He has drove all of the par 4's but two at this course. One is a 430 yard par 4 up hill with trees that you have to cut, and the other is a 450 yard par 4 that will for ever be impossible to drive because you have to hit a cut due to the monstrous sycamore trees that line the fairway. He has in fact won a few long drive competitions in our area with a standard length driver. If he had a average short game he could be a + golfer. But he's stuck at a 2.

Bravo to you. That's fantastic.

Hit a worm burner at your attacker. They'll think twice. Hell throw a ball down and hit driver off the deck at them. I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of that.
-
I'll second that. I forgot to mention to practice the shot over and over until you get bored with it. It'll save your butt when you have to get the ball up and down very quickly. Good luck.

Alright we're going to talk computers here. To be more specific operating systems. Which one are you? The whole Microsoft thing? Mac OSX? Linux platform?

Music. Who doesn't enjoy music? I'm 19 and my parents have influenced my taste in music. I listen to a lot of Zeppelin, Hendrix, the WHO, The Rolling Stones, The Doors, The Misfits, Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Ramones. Just to name a few. But I listen to a lot of music from my generation as well. I like the whole Soundgarden and Audioslave alternative thing from the 90's. But lately (within the last 4 years) I have listened to a lot of metal/ death metal. I swear when my madre hears the death metal she cries herself to sleep at night. But the music is phenomenal. The skill level at which these musicians can play is amazing. Most of you are going to knock the whole metal scene, I expect that. It's the best thing my generation has to offer. Honestly look and listen around. Guys wearing girls pants. Odd. I can't even imagine how uncomfortable that is. Guys singing in falsetto like girls. Horrible talentless pop and rap artists. The quality of music just keeps going down the drain.

Divots...You hit em' or not?
FoosIason replied to SteelDriver's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Of course I take divots. Not with the driver or 3-wood though. But I hit down on the ball, and if I don't take a divot it was probably a poor swing. I don't take a divot with the 3-wood because it's more of a long sweeping swing. This is on purpose. This allows me to obtain maximum distance while having control. It's un-natural, but it works for me. I shouldn't have to explain why I don't take a divot with the driver. -
Hmmm I have the same problem you do. I haven't golfed in 5 months but I have a abnormally high ball-flight. I generate a lot of spin. I was using the ProV1s but recently switched to the ProV1x. That helped a little bit. But I'm not satisfied. I still hit my 19 degree 2 iron higher than most people hit a wedge. This is frustrating. But I'll be honest with you, when I was using the regular 1's I hit my 2-iron about 220, and when I switched to the X's I hit it about 235+. But 2 and 3 iron were the clubs that had the most drastic change with the change of ball. Generally when I hit my clubs I have almost a balloon effect. Yes shallowing your swing will help you bring your ball flight down, but you may be in the same boat as me. I'm 6'0 tall and I have monkey arms. I have almost a 6'5 reach, this makes having a shallow swing an impossible feat. My natural swing is very steep. All I can say is good luck to you. Please let me know if you find something that works for you. I'm very interested in a solution to this high ball flight problem.

has anone ever whiffed it on this forum?
FoosIason replied to BASHERBAKER69's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
This is funny. When I was about 8, I was playing in a junior league with a bunch of 10-13 year olds and generally I could hold my own, but on one particular day things were just not going the way I wanted them to go. After waiting for the group in front of us (because of my abnormal length off the tee at the ripe age of 8) there was a group waiting on us before I had even teed off. Well I happened to roll my drive. That was embarrassing, but the group behind me just made it worse. Laughing and making fun of me (because I was at least 2 years younger than them). I then proceeded to address the ball and take a hack at it. Missed. Tried again, missed. Again, missed. It was horrible. They were counting strikes, ex. strike one!, strike 2, strike 3. Well after I got out, I proceeded to take the stroke limit and walk to the next hole. Remember it was a junior league so there was a legitimate stroke limit in place. I believe of 8. But I over came that and proceeded to hit a beautiful drive down the right side of the next hole. They never bothered me again. -
I'm sure there is a cut of longer grass. Try to knock some speed off your chip by smothering it into that longer grass. That should kill the speed leaving you with a relatively short putt. I'm going to advise you to not attempt a "flop shot". You have been golfing for hardly a year, this is just something you shouldn't attempt yet. here is a good definition of it: A flop shot is a shot in golf in which the player uses a lofted club, such as a sand wedge or a lob wedge, rotates the clubhead to an open position, and strikes down on the ball. This causes the ball to be launched at a very high angle and not travel very far. Also, it creates a high amount of backspin. Players use this shot in situations where the flagstick is very close to the edge of the green, so it is necessary for the ball to stop quickly. No offense or anything but generally only better players should attempt this shot. I play to a five and I don't like this shot, but sometimes it just has to be done. Good luck.

Let's see my Uncle and my former golf coach Beaver. Both hold course records. Beaver happens to hold a few. But I enjoy playing with my Grandpa. He is a teaching professional. He doesn't hit the ball too far anymore (220-235) but he is the best putter I have ever seen. I should take some lessons.

Yes well I just recently bought the 24" iMac. A friend and I decided about 4 months ago that we were sick of the Microsoft BS... so we decided to get macs. He bought a MacBook back in May. I recently saved up enough for the 2.8 ghz model with 2 gb of ram. My only complain is with garage band. They didn't include any jam packs in iLife '08.
-
Anyone here have the new Apple iMac? If so what are your thoughts on it.

Congads Buddy. I only had one eagle up until last year... and that was when I was like 10 years old in a youth league and I chipped in for eagle on a par 5. But last year a bug bit me or something and I ended up carding 11 eagles (10 were rolled in.) I was pretty pleased with myself. Sadly this year I have not had the time to really play so much. I'm lucky if I get 2 rounds of golf in a week with the 50 hrs a week I work now. Congrads to you all... eagles are pretty fun.

Thank you point and case.
-
are you kidding!? They are devastating to the golf course. They cause so much damage. The little bastards eat grass and all the leaves off the trees. Educate yourself on them a bit before you judge me.
-
Oh I kill the little bastards. when ever I get the chance.
-
Anybody having a problem with these on their course... because its that time of the year for them again. They are so lovely. Especially with this lack of rain in my area... they are just starting to eat all the vegetation. Lovely little pests. My course actually sprays for them on the turf... and if its bad enough they will hire a crop duster to spray the rows of trees throughout the course.

Has anyone ever heard of the effects of putting lip balm on the face of your driver? Evidently if you put just a little bit on your driver face it takes most of the spin off the golf ball. You hit what looks like a knuckle ball with your driver. Of course its illegal to do so I believe... because its a foreign substance. But its something crazy to try if you're just practicing at the course, or are pounding balls at the range. When I first heard of this I thought it was far fetched and un truthful... but it worked for me when I was hitting drives for women at this charity event. It was a par 5 with a pond and me and another guy stood out there and were paid 10 dollars by the 4 some for us to hit 4 golf balls for them. It all of course when to the charity... but it was a good thing because they played our drives right off the green. But let me know if that worked for you... or if it was just a fluke for me.... either way it was pretty cool. But it doesn't take much at all you just put a little bit of it on the face of your club and spread it with your finger... remember a little goes a long way. Well let me know.... thank you in advance.
