I don't think you can ever underestimate what a new shaft can do for your game. I recently broke the shaft of my Titleist 905T. I replaced it with a Fuji E360, and I picked up 10 yards or so. And my ballflight seems to be right where I want it. The only caveat is to make sure you talk to someone that knows their stuff. And try different shafts to, and consider what makes you like that shaft better than the current shaft. Does it feel lighter, heavier? What about the torque, and flex point? Personally, I have hit the Burners, and they are very light. I think the shaft is only 55grams. My shaft is 72 grams, and that makes a lot of difference.

When I putt in my apartment, I'm more concerned about my direction than my speed. I concern myself with keeping my body still, swinging with my shoulders. Making a solid stroke and listening for the right sound.

This is one of the things the I love about golf. There is no right or wrong answer to this question. It is all a matter of personal preference. The goal is to put the ball in the hole while using the fewest strokes you can. As for me, I'll try to leave a comfortable distance, unless there are other circumstances. Hazards and other sorts of things like that. One factor that I've been dealing with lately is the wind. I've found that, when playing in the wind, I will generally play to get as close to the green as I safely can. This will eliminate time when the ball is in the air. In addition, I feel that, during practice rounds at least, you should test different things. Try blasting a driver on a hole where you would normally laid up. I find that you may discover something.

I prefer to walk when I can. We have some shortish courses around here that I can walk no problem. However, there is one course that I have trouble walking. Its a 7200+ yards par 71, with a LOT of hills. I've walked that monster a few times, but it wasn't very fun. If i'm playing in a scramble, I'll ride with the group. The scrambles that I have played in haven't really been about winning as much as having a good time. Other than that, the only time I walk is when i have limited time. If there is hardly anyone on the course, I can zoom around 18 in about 2 hours on even the long course. My record is an hour a 13 minutes. I wanted to get a round in before meeting my dad to go fishing one morning. Course, it does help to shoot 73.

I love bass fishing. On a sunny day, I'm either on the links or the lake. Its more the links right now because I don't have a boat. Looking to invest in a kayak or canoe, or something, but I think it'll be hard to fit in my apartment. I've grown up in So. Indiana, and mainly fished Patoka Lake with my Dad. I've been to one Bassmaster Classic, when it was held on the Ohio River in 1987. I don't remember this, as I was only a year old at the time, but I have a bunch of autographs to prove it. My dad and I usually make a some time to go to the bass fishing expos at Bass Pro Shops in the spring. Can meet some pros that way. I've gotten autographs from Hank Parker, Jimmy Houston and Bobby Murray, as well as Woo Daves.

Anyone out there live in the Evansville area? I tend to play alone right now, and that gets kinda boring, and there's no one to see all of my hole-in-one's /sarcasm. I generally play Fendrich, Henderson Players Club, Cambridge or Quail Crossing, but I will play anywhere. I generally shoot low to mid 80s, and will walk or ride, whatever.

The first thing I noticed when watching the video is the amount of bend in the shaft at impact. That just didn't look natural. So, i'm thinking a stiffer shaft may help with consistency.

That is clutch if I ever saw it! Nicely done sir.

What degree wedges should I carry
dkinser86 replied to mc0388's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have to disagree with the post above. I believe you could find a lot of use, and be more versatile in more situations with a high lofted, low bounce wedge. Depending on the shot, it could really come in handy. -
What degree wedges should I carry
dkinser86 replied to mc0388's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I play a 47* PW, 50*, 54* and 58* Vokey's (as seen in my signature). I like the way it plays. I spent a lot of time opening up the 58* for shots between 80 and 30 yards, so I don't really have a need for a 60*. I really like this set up. It's all a matter of personal preference. I would like to see a constant gap between the all clubs, but it is especially important for the scoring clubs. Having such a large gap can contribute to missing some scoring opportunities. It is a thought like this that is often overlooked by players. -
They are on rockbottomgolf.com for 60 for a set of 3. I had a 56* with my old set. It worked very well. The diamond face is a bit rougher of a surface, so it grabs the ball a bit better than ordinary wedges at that price. It's been a while since I've had it. I would give the wedge about 7.5/10. But, that was when I didn't really know how to use it as I do now. All in all, i think it would be a good by if you can't splurge on new vokeys. As for groove sharpeners, As long as you don't press hard on the face, and make the grooves illegal, they work great. I use on that I got off of ebay, and it has done wonders in restoring the grooves to wear they were when they were new.

If you can get a buddy, make some competitive games out of up and downs. A buddy and I play an 18 hole match play round. The person with honors picks the spot and the hole to play. We have a clause, that we dubbed (luck of the lie) Basically, you drop as you would a penalty and play it from there, as you would on the course. We are only allowed 1 other club than a putter. Loser buys the winner a drink at the bar. We also play stroke play putting. Once again, the person with honors picks the spot and the hole, but it must be at least 15 feet away. This time, we normally play 50 cents a stroke. I like being out a with a friend. I think it makes practice a bit more fun, and can really put the pressure on. A 3 footer to win a Jack and Coke? It's close enough to winning the US Open for me.

How much rotation on the backswing???
dkinser86 replied to timastyle's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I just use a bit of common sense about geometry. I know that right angles (90*) are formed by two perpendicular lines. When I address the ball, my shoulders for the first line. My goal on my back swing with my shoulders is to have them form another line that is perpendicular to the first. -
I guess, the first thing you have to do is find some sort of consistency. If you can hit a pitching wedge anywhere between 90 and 120 yards on any given swing that could cause problems on the distance control issue. This comes from practice, of course, and lots of it. Make nice, smooths swings for solid contact. As for the equipment, it could be possible that the stiff flex in the shafts could be too stiff for your swing, basically causing you to fight through it.

How much rotation on the backswing???
dkinser86 replied to timastyle's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I've gone by a general rule about a 45* hip turn with a 90* shoulder turn. It's yielded good results for myself. To get this, however, you may have to start some stretching exercises. -
I'll second this. I've been playing for about 10 years, and had a baseball grip the entire time (from a baseball background) My high school golf coach tried to get me to change to an interlock grip, but I just couldn't get used to it. As stated above, as long as the "v's" made by the crease between your thumbs and forefingers, the grip is fine. As for the 10-finger grip being a key for draw, I have a played a fade most of my career. And, have only recently began hitting a draw on command.

How much can new technology help me?
dkinser86 replied to dkinser86's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I ended up getting a new shaft put in it. Unfortunately, they didn't have the Grafalloy Blue shaft, so I ended up getting a Fujikura E360 put in it. The person doing it said they are very similar, and that they Fuji should bring my ballflight down just a touch, which is something I've been looking to do. I do it the ball consistently on the sweetspot. The 280-290 was not found by stepping off a drive or anything like that. A course I play has a straight-away, flat 430 yard par 4. I normally have between 130 and 160 left for my second shot, depending on wind. Not very scientific, but gets the job done. -
Just because some sizing chart says that you should use a larger grip doesn't mean that you have to abide by it. Use grips that you feel comfortable with. Once you do that, then stick with it. Also, I don't think the grips will have a big effect on your swing. It may help slightly. But if you have struggling with a slice, you might look more at the fundamentals of your swing.

First off, some bad news for me. Playing a round the other day, my driver head broke off during a normal swing. I don't really know what happened, and needless to say, I was very disappointed. But I have had the driver about 2 years so, I got a lot out of it. But for my question, since the driver is broke, I was wondering how much I stand to gain by upgrading to new technology. I figure I can reshaft my current driver for about 70-100 dollars, depending on the shaft I choose. I noticed that I can get a Callaway Hyper X tour with NV65 Shaft for $200 right now on tgw.com. My swing speed is ~105, and I get about 280-290 in distance including roll. I guess, putting it differently, am I pretty much maxed out distance wise with my current swing speed?

Cambridge Golf Course This is one of my favorite courses. Its a links style course. Not too much in the way of trees, but has a lot of elevation changes. It is a tough course, playing over 7200 yards. The greens were are undulating, having lots of break in them. It was a great to be creative on some shots, and knowing where to put the ball. The course was in good condition. The rough wasn't very taxing, unless you put it in the very long stuff. Water came in to play on several holes. The only complaint that I had was that I felt the greens were not in as good of shape as they could have been. This is not to say the green were in bad shape. In fact, there were in good shape. I just wanted them to be a bit faster. The best part of it was the price. You can walk 18 for under $20 for twilight. Play 18 during the week for $34 with cart. The final verdict: (4) Good

How many people enter each flight? How much does it all cost?
-
I think they should be allowed in tournament play. Not using it just slows down play. And I look at this another way. If I'm playing a tournament on a course that is very unfamiliar to me, I like having that overhead view that tells me yardages to hazards and things like that.

Have been hit too many times to count. Let's see, I've been hit by golf balls, golf clubs, golf club heads. I was hit with a golf ball while sitting in a golf cart. I was hit with a ball while standing behind the player. And now that I think about it... I think its been by the same person.

Has anyone played in one of these events. They have a tour located in my area, (Evansville, IN), and judging by the scores on the courses I play, I think I could be competitive in the A Flight (hand. 6-10). I was wondering how the tournament was set up, and what all was included in the entry fee, and any other info that's germane. Thanks!

A friend came down from New York to Evansville, IN for July 4. We ended up playing down at Cambridge. I shot 43, 39 for an 82. It was probably the best round i've played since last summer. On the front, I had a 2-hole stretch where I went double, quad. So, that sucked. Also, I made 3 birdies in 5 holes, but burned edges and lipped-out about 5 more. All in all, very pleased with the way I played.
