$100+ for a putter? What gives?
bIGwIRE replied to powermatt99's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
E-bay is a good place to look. Make sure to check out the sellers profile, maybe buy it from an E-bay store if possible, as their are alot of counterfiet Camerons out there. A used one in good condition should run around 150-175$ -
I meant steel, lol.

I would say go with steel shafts, they will stand up to abuse better and are less expensive. You will generally get a little more distance with graphite, but will lose a bit of control. Again, getting them fitted is important. If they aren't set up right for your body you will compensate for the mismatch, possibly learning poor swing mechanics along the way. Who knows, maybe off the shelf set up will be just right for you, but I'd check it out anyway. If you get fitted prior to ordering online you can order your specific set up. Most likely you would want a Regular shaft flex. Also, I'm not sure how you feel about playing pre owned clubs, or how you feel about E-bay... but you could get a premium used set for the same price as a new mid level set. just an idea... Best of luck.

$100+ for a putter? What gives?
bIGwIRE replied to powermatt99's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I game a Cameron for a few reasons. One is that it is finely tuned. The designed is Anser based, but taken to the next level. What is better yet is that the feel, swingweight, length, lie, loft, ect... are all tuned to me and what I want my putter to be. Second is for show. You can tell time just as well with a 10$ Timex from Wal-Mart as with a 300$ Citizen. Why do some people spend 10,000$ on a Rolex, and do they wear it to bed? Also, 300$ isn't alot of money to some people, esspecially when you really love golf. My last heat bill was more than that. Why didn't you tie a rock to a stick and putt with that?? You could've bought a cheeseburger! -
^I'm not quite sure what to say about that post, except I disagree...not to say getting some lessons would be bad, thats probbably a good idea, but clubs you feel good about will help. His 1500$ price tag is exagerated as well.... by alot. My top company for a beginer to look at is Adams. They have alot of options with iron and hybrid combo sets for around 400$ and much less online. I would reccomend iron shafts, in regular flex for you. For wedges, Cleveland, Taylormade, Titleist... can't really go wrong with a name brand. Just swing them awile before you buy. If you go to a pro shop they will ussually include a fitting with the purchase of a nice iron set... Doing that I heavily reccomend. Its better to have junky clubs that fit you than premium ones that don't. Best of luck and enjoy your new sticks.

Instead of changing your grips have you thought of using a wet weather golf glove? There are many tochoose from designed specifically for the rainy day, but they work great for humid days as well. Here is one example. I would reccomend getting both a right and a left hand glove.

Did we mention Henrik Stenson yet? His swing is very similar to my own, me being 6'4", only his is alot more consistent.

Equipment advice - $300 to spend
bIGwIRE replied to rdurbin's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
My vote is for the rangefinder and a wedge. Look for a deal on E bay or something like that. I would say no to the Medicus... -
Yes, but that saved you the time you would have spent explaining that to your wife.

First Demo Day, now want new clubs!
bIGwIRE replied to DHood's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
The clubs you get to hit during "demo days" are not good or wholesome clubs. They are vile temptresses designed to wreck your happy home! -
Thats because half of "hockeytown" wings fans were also once detroit auto makers... untill recently. Not to mention the fans that ussually come from Chicago had their own team to cheer for....a welcome change. They still love and respect the game... but times are tough all over, esspecially down around there...
-
No kidding... Crosby has always been a class act who let his game (and hoisting of Lord Stanley's cup) do the talking. Now if Ovechkin got laid out... lol Rise above the trolls, dude. Detroit has been a great hockey city in good times and bad.... the fans are just frustrated this year... half of them worked making cars after all... and Pitt is hogging all the trophies. Selfish jerks.

Iron shafts - lighter vs. heavier
bIGwIRE replied to danieldsuh's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
As you get better those subtle differences will really start to make a larger impact on your game. For now, assuming your 27 hc is current, it likely won't matter that much. It sounds like you will have more fun and an easier time swinging the lighter shafts.... if they fly the same for you right now go with what you will enjoy more... My advice= get fit for shaft length and lie (this should be free, or close to it with a purchase) and worry about the "fine tuning" in a few seasons when your swing is more mature. Good luck and have fun. -
Alot of times I'll deloft a 52 or 56 degree wedge by playing it farther back in my stance. If I really only want it to roll I'll play a 5 or 6 iron. Once in awile I'll employ the texas wedge.

Is it me, the club, or the RANGE balls?
bIGwIRE replied to Sherlockian's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Are the yardage markers on the range accurate? On one of the ranges around here one marker says 200 but the laser says it is 225... plus the tee boxes vary about another 20 yards, so from the back/side box its 245... -
Sun Mountain MPB::Titleist Premium::Ogio Grom
bIGwIRE replied to fpuagolf's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
+1 for the Ogio Grom... The strap, as mentioned above, is the real deal when riding in a cart. When it is fastened you don't even need the regular cart strap. Its a little heavier when walking, but the features make the extra weight well worth the effort. Good luck. -
^^ he is right, I'm 6'4" and I only take +1/2"... but my buddy plays +1 at only 6'2"... You could always choke up on them.... think Anthony Kim.
-
That makes more sense.... in that case I would drop the 56 degree and add a 54 and a 59 degree.
-
Take a look at the CG 12s or 14s with the DSG grind, which are very hard to dig too much with.

Here is one such thread ^^ http://thesandtrap.com/forum/showthr...ht=miura+irons
-
I remember reading a few threads on this forum saying how his Titleist irons from years past were accually made by Miura and only looked like the Titleists... could it be the same with the Nikes? I'm just jazzing here... but I'll do a search for the specific thread.

Add another vote for the Srixon ad333.... they run around 22$ a dozen, which is why I recommended Wilson 50/50 before (14-16$ per dozen). If you want a ball in the 20-30 dollar range...imo its Srixon ad333 all the way.
-
I'd go with the 52 degree. Another suggestion is getting one with a little different grind and bounce than what your sand wedge is. Depending on the lie you would have even more options.
-
Yeah I noticed the same thing... your PW should be around 48*... so you can ditch the PW or the 49 degree and get your 52* wedge and the 5 wood, while keeping the 3 hybrid...
