  1. make sure u bring a ball marker. i've been guilty of having to run over to the cart and grab a ball marker outta my bag because i forgot to put one in my pocket before i started the round.
  2. 9th hole 367 yard par 4. had a nice straight drive down the middle of the fairway, not a lot of distance on it (about 220 yards) but it put me right around the 150 marker. pulled the 7 iron out and put the ball 2 feet away from the pin for a nice easy birdie putt. definately a good way to end the front nine. 7th hole - par 8th hole - par 9th hole - birdie
  3. wow seriously thanks for all the help guys. definately like the idea of hitting a dollar bill size worth of sand. hopefully when i go out tomorrow the course wont be too full and ill be able to toss a few balls into a bunker and take a few practice shots. just for the heck of it, my 56* is a 12 bounce.
  4. the last part u said was my biggest problem. i just simply wasn't following through. i was coming down on the ball and my entry point into the sand was fine too but there was just a mental thing there that made me not follow through. i cant wait to get back out on a course and go at it again. either way, i definately need to get into a practice bunker at a range somewhere and work on this little issue. that and i really want to figure this 56* out so that i can ditch the bump and run stuff and just start sticking the short shots close to the pin instead of running them up.
  5. haha yea thats what my dad said. makes sense, just stay outta the bunkers and i dont have to worry about this little problem i have. we'll see what happens, i may be going back out tomorrow after work, if not, i already have a tee time set for monday too. hopefully one of those two days i can break 90!
  6. i would say it all depends how specific u wanna be with ur stats. to me, stats are the type of thing that are kept more so for personal reasons, with the exception of your ACTUAL score/handicap. sometimes if i chip one time and end up short to the point where i have to chip again i'll count that second chip shot from just off the green as a putt because it technically should have been a putt had i not messed up. then for fairways, if im only a yard off the fairway and not in the rough but light rough/fringe of the fairway ill just count it as a fairway shot. my main question (and not to thread jack) how do you determine if you hit a GIR (green in regulation) or not? say its a par 4, is it only a green in regulation if u hit it on ur second shot? or does it still count as one if u hit it after ur third shot cuz u messed up your second shot? sry to thread jack lol
  7. so just got back from shooting 18 with my dad. was a decent course, not to hard, but not to easy. (69.8/122) i ended up shooting a 93 which is right around my average lately (low 90's). it was only my 3rd time out this year but i can feel myself being right on that edge of breaking into the 80's and i KNOW i could have done it today if it wasn't for the two sand traps i found myself in today..... took me three shots to get out of both of them !!!! thats 6 extra strokes on my score...which woulda put me under 90 i've never been much of a real sand trap player, by that i mean i would normally just skull the ball outta the trap instead of trying to hit behind the ball and get under it. my whole problem is that i think its a mental block. taking almost a full swing when im only 15 yds away from the hole caused me to not follow through after i hit the ball while it was in the sand...if that makes sense lol on a side note though, i managed to crack a 270+ yd drive today which is by far my best yet (avg. is around 230ish) and i only putted 36 times (three 3 putts)and i normally putt in the 40's. so even though i've seen progress in my drives and putting, it just seems like im having all sorts of trouble with my 56*, even around the green i have problems with it. today i went back to using my PW and just bumping and running some other shots that were close with my 6 iron. i'd love to learn how to use my wedges though. any advice on bunker shots and small chip shots guys? im desperate....mostly cuz i know i can break into the 80's if i just figure this damn club out! wow...just realized how much i typed haha /rant
  8. Congrats man. now is the road to breaking 90's...im on that road right now. gets frustrating shooting 91's and knowing exactly what shots u wish you could have re-done haha. p.s. dang thats a really short course. only 4000 yds!
  9. well i'm pretty sure its possible for a club face to kinda of lose its "pop" but if ur club is only a year old, i'd be surprised if this was the case. unless u hit with it A LOT. i'm no expert tho, but maybe its even a bit of a mental thing. they say that new clubs really help a players confidence. that could always be the case.
  10. couldn't of said it better myself. basically it just comes down to the fact that there are some..ok maybe many...ppl on this forum that take this game VERY seriously, maybe a bit too serioiusly, even when its not a competition. i can't imagine how miserable these ppl are to play with while out on the course.
  11. wow i woulda been pissed if i was in ur position. but it would make me wanna get out on the range/course even more to get better then them and then beat them before the end of the season. last year was my first year golfing and i spent a lot of time golfing with my dad and his friends who all shoot low 80's, and one guy shoots in the mid to high 70's. NEVER once did they not want to bring me along because i wasnt as good as them. its funny cuz when u join a golf club, u expect there to be ppl in the club who actually have class....looks like u got together with the group of classless guys in the club.
  12. haha alright sounds like a plan. look forward to hackin the course up with u guys haha
  13. lol funny question. i've been a soccer player my whole life and was pretty successful with my career until i gave the dream up. but sometimes when were out on the green and i completely blow a putt, everyone says i shoulda just kicked it instead....so ill throw another ball down for laughs and try it. but im sure he was just saying it for fun. but really, if he wants to kick his ball instead of putt it, mine as well let him lol. its a friendly game of golf between two buddies not a competitive match. however, if money is involved in the situation, then u should definately make sure to throw the rule book at him....unless he really sucks at kicking it, then mine as well let him do it then too. advantage you haha
  14. well hopefully when stuff calms down with school for you the weather will finally be decent and we can get out on the course. i know im getting annoyed with it. i've only gotten out once this year and dont know how much more of this indoor 75 yd dome range crap i can take.
  15. welcome to the site. a lot of interesting info on here. im about 30-45 minutes away (macomb county/lake st. claire) from flint but i'd be down to meet up and play a round too...if you guys dont mind playing with a high handicaper haha
  16. haha thats absolutely rediculous. the craziest part is he was trying to do it!! i actually had this happen to me last year...but not on purpose...and it didnt go in the hole. but still crazy. was a long par 5 and i layed up before the water after my third shot. on my fourth shot to the green i made contact with the ball...it just didnt get up in the air...skipped off the water twice and then hit a hill and rolled onto the green 5 feet away from the pin. hahaha we were all in shock.
  17. first - i was just curious about other ppls opinions about sharing clubs on the course or the range...i didn't know being curious and starting a discussion about it was that big of a deal. if you dont want to take part in it, dont post. thats the beautiful thing about internet forums. you read what you want, and discuss what you want. when u dont want to read/discuss something, all you have to do is hit the back button. second - i didn't know i had to lay my reasoning out for wanting to start a discussion. i didn't know my reasoning behind starting this thread was even neccessary for anyone else to know in order for this to be discussed. third - well...no point in really commenting on a statment made by a purely ignorant person. fourth - i'm sorry i wasted your time....nobody made you read the thread...nobody made you come back to this thread. like i said earlier, if you don't think it is a topic worth discussing, then dont post in the thread.
  18. yea ill definately just let him use my old set from now on and offer to let him buy me a round of golf and maybe he can just keep my old set. haha the clubs aren't that bad at all, i just wanted something a bit newer with better club faces.
  19. well i started this thread because all last year a good friend of mine would tag along with me to the range every once in a while and use my clubs to hit since he doesnt have his own. for some unknown reason, he wouldnt go buy his own clubs and he had no desire to ever try to improve enough to be able to get out on the course with me. i refuse to even offer to take him on a course because even after a year of going to the range with me he still has no concept of how far he hits each club and he is unbelievable inconsistent...not to mention any club past a 7 iron he has the potential to slice 50+ yds on any given swing. now that this season has rolled around up here in michigan, he wants to start going to the range with me again (since ive already started). im trying to get him to go out and buy himself a set of beginner clubs, especially since i just went out and bought myself new clubs too. just wondering if anyone else felt the same way i do about sharing clubs. its ok on the range as long as the person isnt going to hack away with them, and my friend basically does.....and i would never bring a person out on the course with me unless they have their own set of clubs.
  20. hmm i might be able to give u a run for ur money on that one. i was hitting a few diff. drivers on the golfsmith launch monitor earlier this week and at first my avg. launch angle was around 7 degrees or so and i was only carrying the ball 200 yds. we made a few adjustments to my grip and got it up around 11-13 though and a carry around 220 yds. the guy said that it was still a bit low, but if it was working for me then to just stick with it till the rest of my swing comes around.
  21. Just curious as to what you guys think about sharing golf clubs on the course or the range. I don't mean like loaning a friend a club to try out on a certain shot, I'm talking about sharing your whole set while at the range or the course. It seems to me that it has always been an unwritten rule that when on the course, every person should have their own set of clubs. Then there is the driving range where it may not be as big of a deal if your just there with a friend who has never played before and wants to try it out. Discuss.
  22. yea i went to the driving range yesterday. its an indoor/outdoor range and i just walked straight inside not even considering shooting outside since it was so windy yesterday here in michigan. hopefully going to be getting out this sunday afternoon or monday morning if the weather holds up.
  23. yea i was just on the golfsmith launch monitor today and the guy watching me helped me fix my grip and that nearly eliminated the spin i was putting on the ball. went through 4 drivers and lots of teaching before we came to a decision. definitely happy i went there to buy my new driver (check sig)!!
  24. 1. practice practice practice 2. really improve on my driver (consistency and distance). would love to be around the 250 yd. avg and eliminate my slice/fade 3. cut down on the 3 putts. 4. get my handicap down to 20.
  25. i personally just took advantage of this offer. i bought the 56* wedge along with the taylor made rossa putter that is offered. i just hit the 56* wedge for the first time today at the range and i was really happy with it. with my old sand wedge my range was only 80-100 with a full swing. the dome i hit in was only about 80 yds long but i had no problem hitting the back wall in the air. then i moved over onto the small chipping area/green thats in the dome and worked on a few short chips, basically just pitching on and trying to get close enough for a one putt. i was able to get quite a bit of spin with the club when i opened it up a bit more. definatley happy with the purchase so far. we'll see how i do with it out on the course though.
