  1. The Nike PD series have been one of my favorite less expensive golf balls. Not too hard or mushy and they perform better than many other ones I've tried in that price range
  2. Yes, it happens. Feels like I completely forget how to play golf. The next day is fine though. I guess that's just golf. I just hate when that happens on the course.
  3. If you will be using the 3 wood off the tee a lot, you might look for one with a tall face rather than a low profile one.
  4. The Cobra Baffler irons can be had at a good price right now. They are easy to hit.
  5. A different size grip will usually affect your swing a little bit. A larger grip usually takes some of the wrist action out of the swing. That can be either good or bad depending on how you hit the ball.
  6. 2 wheeler is lighter and doesn't take up most of my trunk. If you have an apartment and have to climb three flights of stairs, a 3 wheeler is a problem.
  7. The Jetspeed is a good choice. You can mess around with different shafts, but I doubt you would notice too much difference. A single digit handicapper might have a consistent swing that would benefit from more optimization, but don't second guess yourself on this purchase. Besides , this will probably not be the last driver you will ever buy.
  8. The other consideration is whether she would want you to spend $1000 on new clubs for her or use the funds to upgrade your next vacation instead.
  9. If you start using a ball with a urethane cover, give yourself some time to adjust to the difference on pitches and chipping.
  10. Metal spikes and a quality two wheel pull cart. If you want to have some fun, take your persimmon driver to the range and hit some easy drives next to someone who is spraying balls everywhere with his new 46 inch driver.
  11. I would not use a refinished ball. It has likely been modified- new paint or something. Recycled golf balls are fine, except that I have found deformities and bubbled paint on some urethane balls, particularly ProV1s. I have never had an issue with a surlyn ball. I think surlyn is less likely to be affected by water.
  12. The turf grass and soil type where you play can make a wider sole more preferable. My only problem with wide sole clubs is that the short irons don't seem as accurate and have less touch.
  13. You can probably find old apex blades fairly easily for a good price.
  14. Keep a closet full of putters and pick out which one you think will work that day. I think Jim Furyk and a few other pros use that method.
  15. Probably not unless you go with one of the 46 inch drivers or if your swing has changed. You can always take your driver to a golf store and compare it with some demos.
  16. If you already have a draw, don't get irons with more offset than what you are using. Also being from Texas, irons that tend to dig will probably not be a good choice. You can break a shaft or your wrist trying to take a divot in fairways with sun-baked clay soil.
  17. I find it easier to hit blades straighter than larger irons, but consistency is better with a more forgiving club head.
  18. The 905R is a solid driver. If you are looking for a more forgiving driver, then you might see some benefit with an upgrade.
  19. I don't think the Razor X Black irons would suit your game. It has a smaller head than most others. try the Callaway preowned website
  20. I don't but my dad does. With his slower swing speed, the loft of a 3 wood gives a better trajectory. If you have trouble keeping your drives in the fairway, then go with the 3 wood. Pros do it quite frequently. Play the clubs that you hit well.
  21. If you are hitting 240-250 with a 90mph swing speed, it sounds like you are getting good distance. My swing speed is around 90 with similar distance. All the clubs you mention are quality sticks. If your fitting specs are in the "average" range for shaft length and lie, then you should be able to reduce your handicap with practice and a coach. Of course, new clubs can always give you a confidence boost if they feel good and look good.
  22. How did the loft change affect the 2 iron? Is the 2 iron still playable with a stronger loft?
  23. I like to take my old laminated and persimmon woods to the range, get a hitting station next to a guy with the latest shiny new driver, and then whack balls that go about as far and straight as his. Also interesting to note that modern "hybrids" are basically the same setup as old persimmon or maple fairway woods. Very similar club length and head size.
  24. The next time you are on the course hitting a 5 iron, throw down a second ball with higher compression and see if there is a significant difference in ball flight and distance. Do the same for the driver. Sometimes the low compression golf balls are designed to have a very high trajectory so you might find that they balloon on you with a higher swing speed. I also use the 50 Elite but have never had a problem with ballooning even if I put extra power into a swing.
  25. Also depends on the course. If greens are small and rounded, I use a urethane ball. If the course has narrow fairways with trees and water close to the fairway, a ball that hits straighter off the tee is better. If the course has small greens and narrow fairways...well just play a different course.
