  1. Long drive competition balls and tees are also golf compliant equipment as required and stipulated by usga. According to best of my knowledge...
  2. on the other hand, it is plainly evident to the observer that long drivers have longer carry more often than not, compared to golf course and pga pros. You have undulating fairways, downhill rolls etc on the golf course. The target field at the long drive events ought to be about-flat terrain, so rolls and effect of downhill isn't so accentuated. Though sometimes the field has uneven hardness, which seems to give different rollout at the edges of the field (less golf ball impact at the edges, so it's more fresh ground presumably)
  3. my home course does exactly that, they pair groups of players so that the total sum of handicaps don't exceed 100 hcp EGA so, they don't allow three total beginners to group together. Instead you have groups that have following hcp of players: 10, 32, 28, 30. Which creates a total sum of 100 hcp EGA For example..... Or you could have following hcp of players: 54, 16, 30. Which creates total sum of 100 hcp EGA The idea behind this scheme is to... 1) educate raw beginner golfers by implementing them into more experienced group of golfers 2) even-out, the pace of play across field 3) guest players are put in the same group as a club member. These persons are essentially 54 hcp EGA. Utterly handicapless persons are not allowed to golf in this golf club.
  4. Haha so you're saying that golf ought not to be fun at all? Only way to enjoy golf according to you is just "being serious about golf" and not enjoying the game, not enjoying the outdoors and not enjoying the social aspect? Honestly I play the best golf when I just relax and enjoy the game. And enjoy the views and the company of the other players... I think the results will come, with deliberate practice at the range and trying your best at the actual golf course. It doesn't always work out perfectly but at least you gave it a go. That being said, I oftentimes simply play in a foursome group so we're not exactly the speedgolfers that everyone claims to be online. This week when I played with: dad, me, an older lady, and her young grandson. It wasn't the fastest round because the young lad was only starting golf but he played well enough with his ballstriking from the short tees.
  5. -I played 45 strokes front-9... It was pretty amazing to score that well... Now the course was not that long in yardage, but I was playing middle tees so there you go. Yardage was 5000 yards I think, so definitely not that long. -I had some really nice pitch shots and chip shots. -It's just that the back-9 was slightly worse! -back-9, I had tons of penalty strokes sadly. Lost some balls on the back-9. -it wasn't strokeplay, but instead stableford scoring, therefore the overall round of 18 went still rather well, due to my excellent front-9. -stableford points were 43 total, from 18-holes. 1 birdie 4 pars 7 bogeys 2 double-Bs 1 triple-B 3 holes with no score, it would have been 10 strokes I reckon had I holed them out.
  6. nice job analyzing your own mistakes, Moppy! I was trying out some PW, 7i, 4i, and driver at the range. I think I was squeezing the driver grip too tightly it seemed, preventing enough wrist action for power in my golf swing... When I took the lightest grip I could take, with driver, I was hitting mild straight fades, or straight shots with the driver... But then again I gotta get more upwards strike even so, I feel...
  7. thank you sir! May I enquire as to your own rounds this week, was there anything particularly good going on this week? The good thing about my 107 score was that I had a quite balanced round. I only had two blown up holes across 18. Also putting was good. The bad shot types which cost me some strokes was regular chip shots and short range lob shots. I chunked, it seemed, almost half of my chip shots and lob shots. It wasn't a pretty sight I can assure you that. Ideally you would always want to get closer to the pin in those kind of shots... Also the gross score 107 was masked a little bit by the fact that I'm playing only stableford format thusfar. It's a hole-by-hole based scoring format for golf, so it doesn't punish you so much with overall bigger score. The reason behind the forgiveness is because stableford awards good results like bogies and pars with quite many points, and big stroke counts don't get any worse than a simple zero point. I made a pretty amazing par yesterday in my opinion. I hit about let's say 200m 3-iron off the tee. Second shot was sadly worse with a mid-iron from rough, the shot makes a pull fade type of flight and rolls into the green bunker. Third shot with a 56deg wedge goes almost in the hole! Tap in par putt! I had sand in my mouth and eyes. Even inside my pockets too! That bunker sand just flies everywhere sometimes.
  8. I shot 107, at golf course 67.2 / 130, at yardage 5366 I played only with irons and wedges because this seems to be what is working for me, at the moment, with Mike Austin swing style. Driver has a bit of a slice problem at the moment, sadly. But even though I wasn't able to break 100, it was a pretty good score overall for stableford format, which I was playing. I got 45 stableford points from that round, and it lowers my hcp quite a bit... I made like: -5 bogies -2 pars -4 doublebogies -6 triplebogies etc... -no balls lost either! BUT a few unplayable lies were taken as penalty.
  9. One thing that I always HATED ABOUT THIS WORLD CUP, was bad referees especially in penalty kicks. This came to my mind after watching a goal compilation of top 10 goals in the world cup... referees, please read the rules of football, law number 14. many a penalty kick was not conducted according to rules of football reason being, goalkeeper infringes the rules, by moving forwards off the goal line, before the attacking player has even come to the kicking distance (distance off the ball, meaning that the attacking player has taken a run towards the ball) if goalie moves forward from goal line, infringing the law 14, whereby goal does not occur , then in that case the penalty kick will be retaken. If a goal occurs, despite goalkeeper infringement of the law 14, then in that case goal is allowed (assuming that only goalkeeper is infringing, not both the attacking player and defensive player)
  10. you gotta be able to hit straight putts, in my opinion, if the situation calls for them. Were those difficult putts with lot of slope or how were they? I have had birdie putt opportunities within makeable distance, but I think poor contact with putter sweetspot (not straight putt) was the cause for miss. So, I''ve made pars and bogeys thusfar. With that one birdie newly made that I talked about. If the putt is straight, no lag no slope in any way, only a straight putt can go in the hole. I think dedicated putting practice can be helpful, focusing on the putting speed and clean contact with putter sweetspot
  11. Yeah, there was this one guy in our fourball who commented on my particular thinned approach shot which did roll towards the flag. But nowhere near the pin for sure, not even on the green. And I didn't plan to thin the shot either, obviously. -He said "nice shot dude" -I was like, "Nah, the hit wasn't exactly clean, I could feel it was thin" -He said something like, "Well the result was obviously good enough" -I said jokingly at the realization, "Well I'm not gonna debate you about this, because I was the one who hit the shot and felt it the best"
  12. 105meter 52deg wedge, downhill hole though. (not exactly sure how that distance was calculated on the course placard) followed by medium distance birdie putt... now the putt was medium distance I think, it was easily missable, but I figured that there was no slope, so it was a dead straight putt... and it went dead straight in the hole.
  13. -I played excellent front-9 (with stableford of course). I got 20 points in front nine, and 13 points on back nine. -sadly I lost focus on the back-9. Honestly I felt really tired at the end of back-9 holes, maybe a little bit dehydrated / not much energy. It was a hot day for sure! - I was trying out the so-called mike austin swing style at the golf course for the first time. -I made my first birdie since restarting golf last season. It was a good tee shot with 105meter 52deg wedge. Followed by dead straight but medium distance birdie putt. Sank the putt for the birdie. -course rating / slope was 67,2 / 130 -powerful iron shots kept me in the game, and helped me a lot. Wedge shots were also ok (full swing). -many chip shots were duffed sadly costing me a few holes, also failure to get out of bunker on one hole. -putting was normal level, 3- putt is expected for me, 2-putt is good result for me of course, but rarely happens. Even more rare is 1-putt ! -proximity to the hole could be better of course, with chip shots especially, and wedge shots accuracy needs to be practiced more, to get cloesr to the hole) -driver penalty strokes costed me two holes if I remember correctly. -I played 12 holes quite well receiving points from them. But, 6 holes were zero points for me.
  14. Lol I just hate these kind of comments too!!! My dad always makes them which is annoying as hell. "great shot you hit there, good thinking about club choice!" (comment about a thinned 4-iron shot yesterday) sometimes I just say, " it didn't go exactly as I planned the shot"
  15. I just bought myself 3 1/2 inch driver tees... Gotta use the good tees for driver, within rules allowance of course... Hmm maybe I'll try using short tees for irons then. I'm not sure I'll benefit so much with the irons in distance, but if you claim it improves accuracy / less grievous errors.... maybe it works, I dunno?
  16. on short par3s I definitely hit off the ground only, but that's just me...
  17. I bought Nikon coolshot laser rangefinder because it seems more effective choice for me. I need: -distance to carry water hazard -distances to trees, rocky obstacles, and fairway bunkers -distance to pin, so I can hit accurate approach to the pin when I need to. (long putts suck, Iacas was correct about this fact for sure) -exact carry yardages at the range, useful for yardage book -I hate wearing a watch, I don't do it. All the gps watch devices are too bulky and heavy to use. -there is probably longer battery life in rangefinder (not sure?) I think the proof is in the pudding. If rangefinders are banned in tournament golf, obviously rangefinders must be effective at golf.
  18. I was playing 18 holes today. On this particular par 5, I slice driver into water. Driver still went good distance I think... We had been looking for the ball briefly, but it must have gone into water obviously. Anyhow, for my next shot I take the drop, and the lady in our group answers to my inquiry, that the distance is about 195 meters to the green. This was GPS distance. So, I choose 4-iron for my third shot. I hit a perfect strike, with max power. The ball goes in a perfect line towards the flag... Except that I overshoot the green by something like 5 meters. So that's 5 meters outside the green, in rough. I'm thinking that the distance to the green, must be to the green's center point. Flag was in center, also, though. I definitely chose too much club there. There had been another water hazard in front of the green also, but it seems my new yardages are improved with my new swing change, especially the irons. I think a 5-iron would have been better choice there. 'dat was about 224 yard 4-iron, total distance. (195m to green's center + 5m outside of green +5m green in between) Then I proceed to thin my chip shot into bunker... then I barely save from bunker... then I proceed to threeputt But let's not talk about the SCORE... LOL
  19. What would George Washington say, I think he'd be rolling in his grave... America's national anthem has rocket's red glare, and the Americans were happy enough to include that bit in the anthem, so... go figure? Those were British military rockets in the song aimed at Fort McHenry... Rockets famously failed to explode the fort's gunpowder reserves, leading to the utter contempt of rockets in USA, it seems. Fireworks are legal in my country, but I guess you are only allowed to fire them in the air only in the New Year or the national independence day (6th december in Finland). Something like that, don't take that as legal advice because it could change...
  20. Im heartbroken as well... shit ! Team usa was supposed to be the real deal.... Well I'm still gonna celebrate my birthday today so I cant be all negative today with friends and family! Wasnt the American declaration of independence written on the 2nd of july, and only voted for on the 4th... Darn it I was two days away from having an awesome birthday date! An entire country celebrating my birthday! Well in two days, I hope ya all americans can find the strength to move on after the soccer defeat. George washington himself suffered setbacks and defeats in the war but america was able to pull through. Hopefully America can come back in soccer as well... that is all.
  21. I dont personally see whats so wrong about penalty kicks being awarded for obvious errors. It's football - half-contact sport... American football on the other hand is a essentially full-contact sport... Without stiff penalties to punish stupidity, football would be a totally different game I think. Its like a thief complaining to a policeman that the policeman should not have observed the thief in the act of crime (unlucky but hey... cest la vie)
  22. if algeria can knock out germany - all the better for team USA.
  23. well, it was total distances those iron clubs, I'd estimate. rangefinders would help so much I think! the course scorecards just have lousy distances in them. And rangefinder would help to laze out the distance to fairway bunkers which would help me a lot. since I oftentimes roll out my ball into fairway bunkers (sometimes also the green bunkers)
  24. yea, chile got close on both shots... earlier shot crossbar during game time... and last penalty shot... but it was not to be...
  25. my heart goes out to Chile ! They have same flag as TEXAS for God's sake!
