ill take hitting good on the fairway. you can always smooth a driver off the tee, but good luck with a driver off the deck. but i rarely hit 3 off the tee, and actually dont play many courses where i need it for a five out the fairway. come to think of it, not really sure why i have one. oh ya, for chipping. im money with a three wood from the fringe. -

the big auction site?? no no no no no i want the real authentic clubs -
k hurrs the deal. i been using a pawn shop dunlop driver and three wood, promotional free gift wedges, and ping zing irons for the last few years. I love the zings and may not want to change from those, but i think i might need somethin i could work the ball a little easier with and give me better feel. however, i think its time to get rid of the dunlops. My question to all of you is, what is the best budget club brand out there. I'm talking anti callaway, ping, TM, bladda yadda where 75 % of your money goes to ads and tour pros. I've always considered my clubs as sleeper clubs, cuz when somebody wants to play for cash, and they see my clubs they think its a lock, and then i proceed to obliterate them. but if i ever wanna get on the nationwide circuit i have to upgrade at least a little. for now, i dont feel like droppin 2k on a new setup. so give me some ideas, like lynx or macgregor or kgz and that kind of thing. somethin hopefully youve played so you can give first hand feedback and whatnot. so thats my question and i need your help. whats my new sleeper club brand. thx

What am I doing wrong? swing video
nlowplacez replied to abstill's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
i think you need to start the downswing with the lower body more. your backswing is really flat, but thats ok, and a lot of people would say ideal, specially with the current trend toward the hogan swing. but your starting with your upper body and it like like OTT, especially in that driver vid. your shoulders feet etc. are pointed will to the right and your ball went pretty straight as to the camera angle. try starting the downswing with a nice hip turn (but not a lateral move if your gonna swing that flat) turning in a barrel as hogan said. -
ok, i see now. ive always heard of swingers being the loose armsy swings and hitters the power hogan type, but ive never really put much weight in all that terminology. so good post

sorry, meant to also actually post something helpful. you mentioned ryan's move, and it may actually be something to think about. sergio also does his lay off at the top to get the club on plane. most two planers, who i would say are a majority of pro golfers, either lay off a bit at the top or simply come down on a flatter plane than going up creating a looping effect. it may be hard to see, but ernie, geoff ogilvie, jack nicklaus, freddy are a couple who come to mind. tiger used to do it and it was obvious, but he has since flattened his swing and the two planes are very similar, but he does still have a slight loop. now these guys dont conciously think about looping their swings, but by starting the downswing with an aggressive or semi aggressive hip turn it naturally gets the club in the slot. i would suggest, since your not a pro YET, that you visualize the loop and actually conciously try to come down flatter. i used to do it and thats about when i started getting really good at ball striking. visualizing the loop will usually actually get your hips to make the right move, just because its necessary for them to clear for you to get on plane. so its kind of a vice versa thing, you can think about it either way. or you could always switch to a more one plane swing, which may or may not be right for you depending on whats natural and your build. my 2 cents. actually looking up at how much i wrote i guess its about a dollar (worth maybe a penny) take care and good luck

not flamin or anything, but r u sure u dont have the hitters and swingers mixed up a lil bit. i could be wrong, but maybe theres two schools of thought and theyre opposite. dunno

My Golf Swing as of today
nlowplacez replied to JimmyDoesGolf's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
yep, shorten that swing and itll help the block. when your hands have longer to go with the club they get stuck tryin to catch up to your hips and leave it out to the right. try to just get the club to parallel where you can't see it out of your left periphreal vision. and the pull slice is just the opposite. u try to go at it hard so your hands get ahead. usually try to keep really goin after a ball down to once a round or so. hope this helps a little -
My Golf Swing as of today
nlowplacez replied to JimmyDoesGolf's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
ya looks better than most 17s. hell looks better than most single digits i play with. but full swing is not the most important thing i guess. only thing i could say is it is too long for my taste, and if you were a student i would shorten it up considerably, for consistency and control. theres a certain place where if i pause it it looks like a really really sound backswing, and then it keeps going to your real backswing and its way longer. just a thought -

My swing side by side with changes
nlowplacez replied to kleraudio's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
man i had to replace the carpet in my old apartment, cuz there was a 5 by 5 area worn all the way through from swingin. sometimes u HAVE to swing a club. you literally dont have a choice but back to ur vid. way way too steep, comin down anyway. backswings like that are doable, as its similar to mine. but comin through is too armsy. start the downswing by getting your weight to the left and rotating your hips. with a steep backswing like that you want your first move to be lateral and easy and then the rotation begins. the rest will happen by itself when you get the lower body starting correctly. make sure you dont conciously swing the club with your arms till about when your weight gets over. its gotta be nice and slow at first and then the power. this doesnt apply to all swings, but with your backswing and thin build it definitely will. this will put your club in the slot and then ull naturally be on plane after youve practiced it a ton. and when you get it worked out its gonna be one of those ernie els type swings that looks like your barely tryin to hit it. when you come back steep and go at it on plane thats what happens. but you gotta give everything time to fall into place. just takes a lot of practice. gl bro -
Mini breakthrough for a relative newbie.....

130 mph 6 iron. either you eat steroids for bfast lunch and dinner or you six iron was 460cc with a 45" shaft and you swing faster than bubba watson. anyway, outside of that, lemme tell you something since ur just getting started. Get that grip checked out by a pro or instructor and make sure it is legit. This is the most important thing IMO when ur starting out. Now, people will talk sheet and call bs on this, but I kid you not I dropped my handicap about 5 or 6 strokes in two hours. And all it was was a grip change. I'd been playin with too strong a grip since I started, and just decided to weaken it on the range one day, cuz I literally couldnt get a 3 iron off the ground. Took me two buckets to get used to it, and I went out and shot five rounds over the next week averaging 77, when I'd only broke 80 for times in my life previously. starting with a legit 16 handicap. I could hit high straight shots and hold every green easily and carried the long irons a lot further. I dont think theres any other fundamental that could ever lower anyone's handicap as fast as making sure your grip is correct. -
Opening my left food to allow hips to open...
nlowplacez replied to lollavid's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
what you're doing by opening that foot is not only orthodox, its ideal. Tiger does it, Ben Hogan did it, Jack sometimes did it. I do it. Most good ball strikers I know do it. HOWEVER, I doubt that is the sole reason you were hitting so good, but it may have played a big part in it. A lot of great ball strikers like the aforementioned will flare the left foot but square the right. This restricts your hip turn going back to build the coil and tension in your torso and hips, and allows easier hip rotation on the downswing for power, finding the slot, and all around better consistency. And a lot will even flare the right because the hips turning a lot going back is not always bad, especially if your shoulder turn is huge. Look at Bubba watson. Hips turn so much his right foot comes up a lot. (hes a lefty) But ya keep doin it, and take care. Drew -
It depends on if its actually a push or a slice. Does it go strait left with no curve, does it start left and then curve even more left, or does it start right (or straight) and then curve drastically to the left. If its straight left its a swing path issue, and you just need to swing more down the line instead of to left field. A good way is to think starting your downswing with the upper body and keeping lower quiet. You may not actually do this but if your swing thought is to start the swing from the top down it will get your swing path in line. If there's any curve its a clubface being open issue. there a lot of ways to fix it, such as a grip change, again slowing the hips on the downswing, and a few other things you may need another set of eyes (preferably an instructor) to help you with. if its a true slice meaning it starts right and curves left a lot (the most likely if your a beginner) then you want to do the opposite of what i said earlier and swing a little more towards left field, start downswing with lower body a little more etc. it all depends on what your actual ball flight is. if you post again with the true ballflight and what you THINK your doing in your swing i can probably help a little more. Good luck buddy.

+4 can EASILY play on nationwide. hell i doubt more than 5 or 6 of em are better than +5. and i disagree about the distance thing. you probably wont be marquee on the pga without it, but u can definitely play and make a good bit of paper. corey pavin?

i tried to qualify for the open two years ago just for the experience. i was about a .8 or .9 at the time. it was way tougher than i thought. i actually bogeyed the first two holes and doubled the third. and just about quit. i ended up shooting a 41 on the front and parred the back for a 77. and i actually thought i played really really good. even on those first holes as far as ball striking goes. i missed qualifying for secs by six strokes, so lookin back if i coulda parred those first three, and made up two strokes somewhere else(like the four foot bird put on 18) i coulda went on. but thats how it always is. your alwas lookin back and thinkin u coulda done this or that and history would change and you would have won the open probably and be famous and rich. haha. damn golf hates me. anyway to answer original post kinda, I'm at almost +2 right now (was better than +2 but i guess i peaked and am getting worse at 23 yrs old) and i have a normal day job but give lessons on the side. and i still hit tons and tons and tons of range balls, just because that is what i actually enjoy (even more than playing). i still have am status so i play in a lot of local tourneys and scrambles and stuff and win a few and place in almost all of em. i do have aspirations to someday be a pro golfer (the touring variety) but realistically im not sure it will ever happen, because i cant make myself practice short game. i believe i have the ball striking abilities of at least half the guys on tour, but my short game is prolly worse than the worst tour pro. anyway, i probably didnt answer your question to well, and it may sound like im bragging because i am a little bit. but thats my current career status and aspirations as a + handicapper

he was supposed to but he didn't get to it in time, so only the other three got one in

i was in local qualifiying for the open a few years back right? and this dude, name was mccavey or somethin like that ray or roy. anyway he gets pissed on the hole in front of me at his caddie and breaks all his clubs cept a 7 iron. so we finish the round and i see him and i'm like, hey man what did you shoot on those last few holes. and he says, "I parred in with my 7 iron. You ever shot par with a seven iron?" i just kinda laughed and slipped his girl my number as i was leavin (we ended up hookin up a few months later after he threw away the open, or at least thats what i heard) anyway, one crazy dude. but it can be done

terrible idea now if i was inventing golf for the first time i would do it just to put a bigger emphasis on ball striking. but golf has always been a putters game and always will be, so changing it now would cause rioting in the streets and armageddon. hell no

remember when Roy McCavoy shot like an 81 or 82 in the open a few years back and then almost came back and won it. He actually would have if he hadn't blown up on the LAST whole. I bet you if Romo played three more rounds he would do the same thing and beat Tiger. He didn't even get a practice round in on the course, so he was playing it for the very first time. He's the new world's number 1 as far as I can tell. GO COWBOYS!!!
