May be a stupid question but I need opinions
tazrestling27 replied to tazrestling27's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Just to let everyone know, I used my new swing yesterday and I shot my best score ever. I was extremely happy. Now lets see if I can do it again in the future. I shot a 75, hit 77% of GIR so 14 out of 18, 70% of drives in the fairway, all my drives were 280 yds plus. My longest of the day was 323. It was just a great round and it felt amazing. Hitting a long straight drive makes the game a lot easier. All I had to do was use my 60 degree and 56 for most of the holes. My 60 is my 110 yd club and my 56 is 120yd. I think I might stick with this swing if it stays as consistent as it did yesterday. -
Tonight, I decided to play another round of golf, who would guess ha ha. However, lately I have been looking at swings on youtube and watching golf channel. I see all the good golfers have a full back swing all the way to the top. My backswing is always just a little more than halfway sometimes only half way and I hit a big blow into the ball trying to create a divot in front of the ball. I generate great club head speed. My irons go up by 10 yds each. I hit my 8 iron 155. Average drive is like 250yds. So tonight on the course, I do not know why but I started trying a full swing. I know never a good idea, but I thought how much different can it be. I should practice it on the range for a week before using on the course. However I didn't, first drive I hit was downhill, I hit the ball 330yds with my driver. The guy next to me says he played the course for awhile never seen anyone hit the ball that far. Pared that one missed a 3 foot birdie putt typical. Next hole, I try to do the full back swing I hit the bottom of the driver so it goes 100 yards., manage a bogey. Then next drive I hit 300yds. There was no wind, I was making good contact and somehow it was flying. They were my best two drives of the day. I started hitting the ball further with all my clubs. Ok sounds great right, but with my irons I topped the ball like 7 times. I never top I always hit clean crisp shots with irons, that is my best part of my game. I am a 7 handicap. It was my worst round with irons ever and I was not consistent as I always am with my little more than half way swing. So my question is, should I try to learn the full swing or should I keep with what I have been doing. I went to one lesson during the winter and the pro said I should use the full back swing. Just at the time it did not feel comfortable. I am not very flexible. Just wanted opinons, I am leaning towards the full back swing now and to just learn it because even if I can bomb it out there I can use a lot of wedges, may get in more trouble because of less accuracy. I really want to become a 1 or 2 handicap by the end of the season, still early and learning. I have only been playing competitively for a little more then a year. Thanks

Today, I went to a driving range in Ohio and 140balls cost 5 dollars, ha ha. However, I do not have my clubs, so I had to use the ones that were there. They were the oldest things I have ever seen. The 9 iron loft looked like a 4 iron loft and the 6 iron was as long as the 9 iron. They had the smallest sweet spot I have ever seen and were just very bad. I never realized how much of a difference a club could make. I could barely hit these clubs, and yet three days ago I shot a 78 with my taylormade irons and four days ago shot a 79. Could it be me or is it just the clubs?

Yeah, 3.8 is way to high, but that is what it says. I think that part of the program is not working correctly. I am 5'10, 170lbs. I just started playing golf last year or at least a somewhat serious level. Before that I played a total of 3 rounds. When I miss the fairway, I am pretty close, no OB or hazards. I am trying to increase distance to driver. Gonna practice more of a coil in backswing. Practice lag putting and some up and downs. Plus keep making sure 150 yds in, I can dial in and put on green. Thanks for input.

My program I keep all my scores on says its 3.8, I thought that was high as the past few rounds I have been putting a lot better (33-34 putts, as you said is mediocre, for me is great). I was shooting my high rounds of 83 and 82 with 6 or 7 three putts. So that is why I am assuming it is so high. Over the past week I have managed to only three putt once or twice around compared to my 6 or 7. Irons are my best part of my game, I am confident with them no matter where I am. I am good close to the green with bump and run shots. I have trouble with having the chip shots check on the green. Can't really get the ball to check. Sand game, last round I was in 5x. I got out all 5 times, with one stroke each. I suck in the sand. So I have to learn how to get out and close to the pin out of the sand for a good up and down.

Just was wondering some drills I can do to make my stats better, so I can try to break 70. Thanks Through 13 rounds of golf this season, my handicap is a 7.0 . My GIR is 50%, my fairways hit is only 45%, Average putt per hole is 1.9, average putts per GIR is 3.8, my average driving distance carry is 235yds, with roll 250ish. As you can see I still need a lot of work.

I have to agree with goblue107501, I tend to mostly use my 56, but sometimes use my 60. Rarely ever use a club besides that around the green. I just have practice that club so much I can open the club face or close the club face, instead of using other clubs.

I use a blackberry app called nrange and it is a gps. Not only is it a gps, but it keeps score on the course and measures distance. It keeps track of your GIR, FAIRWAYS, SANDSHOTS, PUTTS, PENALTIES. It is a great app. It really shows what I have to work on.

Hey everyone, I played my first round of golf 3 years ago, I hated it and never did it again. That is when I signed up for this site. I hated golf, the next year my buddies asked me to play around I did and I enjoyed it more played maybe three rounds never practiced. Last year was my first year I started playing more. I played a total of 10 rounds last season with averaging around 85 per round. I didn't keep a handicap until this year. This year I decided to really play golf to my full potential and I have played 13 rounds and I have a handicap of a 7.2. Lowest round this year is a 76, highest is an 83. When I shot the 83, I had 7 three putts. I technically have only been playing a year since that's when I really started playing. Each round I keep my putts, fairways hit, sand shots, penalties, gir everything just to see what I need to work on. Each round I hit about 60% green, fairways is only about 50%, with a driving distance of 245yd. Remember I am from Jersey and where I am playing the ball plugs and has no roll at the moment, to wet. I typically hit my drives about 265yds. Putting has always been my issue, so now I practice putting everyday and today's round I shot a 78 with 1 three putt which is 100% better then what I was putting. Shot a 79 yesterday, with 12 pars, 1 birdie, 3 bogeys, 1 double bogey and 1 triple bogey. I know I need a lot of work still, but would it be in my interest to try to do something like this? The reason why I am asking is because I played with a few older man the past couple days and they told me I should get lessons because I could be really good and maybe play in tournaments. I have never had a lesson, everything I do is self taught, you tube golf channel ect. Reading books. I am 5'10, 170lbs. I have a very short backswing and my driving distance is 265 avg. Do not have a wood, play 3 hybrid 215yd. 4 iron 200, 5 iron 190, 6 iron 180, 7 iron 170, 8 iron 160 ect. My history of myself. I am from New Jersey. In high school, I was all state in three sports. Football, baseball, wrestling. I went and wrestled at the University of Virginia for the past 4 years. My first summer out of college and done wrestling, I went and played for a semi pro baseball team in virginia and i didn't play for four years and didn't practice, but made the team. I had offers from many colleges for all three sports. I decided to really try something new this year and its golf. I am eager to get better and it is something I wanted to attempt, but I wanted opinions. My friends all tell me to attempt it because they can't believe I am shooting this well for only playing a year. Anywho sorry to write a ton, I just wanted you to get a sense of a person I am and that my whole life I was athletic, but now I want opinions whether to go for it or not. Right now I am a consultant who travels the country and every second I have free time I am practicing or playing.

Again, Today I shot a 83 with 7, 3 putts. I can not get my putting game down. When I practice it I do great I do not understand. I do not feel comfortable with the way I stand or stroke the ball. Please help with tips and everything. Drills, stance, posture ect. or even if you have a good video. If I fix this I would be in the mid to low 70's. Thanks

I have been playing golf for a little bit now, but this year I wanted to start getting competitive so I hit almost everyday. Chip and putt every other. I realized I started gripping the club to tight so now I have a blister. I do not want to stop practicing, so any good ideas besides a bandaid? thanks

Pretty much right on spot with me, depends on weather, but yes. -
I wish I had the money or someone would want to sponsor me and do it. I have the athletic background. First team all state in football, baseball and wrestling in HS. Went to University of Virginia to wrestle. Played golf maybe a few rounds in 2 years and now this year I am trying to start playing competitively now that school is over. I practice everyday, hit at least 300 balls, putt and chip. Anyone want to be a taker and help ha ha. This is a neat article though, wish him luck.

Opinions please about Driving Ranges...
tazrestling27 replied to tazrestling27's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Alright thanks, I guess on those driving ranges I'll just try to focus on keeping it straight and good ball striking. -

It was just frustrating because then I got all mad that I was not hitting it as solid and then I started swinging harder and we all know thats not good. -
Opinions please about Driving Ranges...

Ok so the other day, I was in Maryland for work and it was 80 degrees and went and hit at the driving range three days in a row. I was doing incredible, better than normal for those three days. I was hitting my 5iron 205 yds, my 3 hybrid 225yds and my driver carrying 250yds. All my shots were smooth and crisp. Today I went to the range in New Jersey where it was 50 degrees and I could barely hit my 5iron 180yds. I was hitting ok, but had no distanced compared to the last three times. Idk if I was doing something different or what. Now I am thinking about it and being a head case. In Maryland the range balls were nike and looked brand new. Where I hit today, the balls looked like rocks and all scuffed and were crappy. Could that have a difference and same with the weather? Thanks -
If your looking to pair up with someone and golf in Jersey let me know. I am from Somerset County. I am 23 graduated UVA last May.

I just read my post and I was trying to say that my leg use to be locked and not bent. Now I use what I read on a website that before I swing, on my back leg bend the knee a little more and drop my hip just a little more than the front. I use to have my leg lock- had less power. Now I have it bent and my hip is a little lower- gained much more distance. I will try to find the post I read that on tonight for you.

Anyone from Central or Nothern New Jersey?

Sounds good guys, let me know... my email is epr3q@virginia.edu . Let me know when you want to get together. -
I have always been about a 9 handicap. The other day I was reading a few websites about the correct golf swing. One tip I took was that when I swing my back leg is locked and straight. I am a lefty so my left leg. I changed it before the swing to have a slight bend and hip a little lower. Since then I have gained 10 yds on every club and my ball striking is a lot more crisp. I am coming down and through the ball making the divot in front much better. I now hit my 5 iron around 200yds. Every club has jumped with distance. Is this because it allows me to get more torque when my back leg is bent. Also, my shots are much straighter as well. I am looking forward to playing tomorrow. Just was wondering if anyone has done this and seen improvements as well?
