I've always heard, true or not, that hitting high on the face is due to hitting down on the ball too much, i.e. coming in too steep and/or having the ball too far back in your stance. Hitting high on the face out of the rough is a different thing. That happens more than you would think on the PGA even. The ball sits up more in the rough than the player thinks. They then sole the club below the ball and a dead shot comes off the top of the face. But if you are hitting high of the face from the fairway, I can't imagine how that would be from a too shallow swing.

Paddy, When you went to a 58* did it also become your go to sand club and if so how much bounce are you using on that wedge? I'm thinking about a 46, 52, 58 (and yes 64 for now) and making the 58 my main sand club (as well as chipping wedge). I've always played 55/56* in a high bounce. It seems your 54 58 idea will work well. If you really need to split hairs later you can always bend your 54 strong.

clean up an old set of irons
Stacey_E replied to clearwaterms's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
It's funny, I really don't know where or when I got my brush. Haha. It was just around the house. It's the kind that is about 4" long and maybe 2" wide. It's pointed on one end so it's kinda shaped like a clothes iron. I think it might be a tire brush? The bristles are soft enough that they don't scratch chrome, but stiff enough to really lay into the grips when cleaning them with the same solution. -
Buying a new set of Mizuno irons, got a question
Stacey_E replied to Damien45's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Just my $.02. If you are going to be carrying a GW/AW then you probably aren't going to be hitting a lot of touch or "between" shots with your pitching wedge. If that is this case, it looks to me like you wouldn't be giving up anything and actually gaining a little forgivness by carrying the MP-52 wedge. As said earlier, if you use you pw a lot from around the greens, or for those shots a little too long for the SW, than the blade style might fit better. -

I've always had good luck with straight hot water, as hot as you can get it, and a nylon brush. It doesn't have to be one specific to golf clubs. I also add a little dish detergent for a sudsing action. FWIW even scotchbrite pads can scratch a finish, I made that mistake once. If you do soak the heads, try not to let the water in the bucket come up to or above the ferules (little black things above the hosel). If you soak them up that high, water could get down in the hosel and effect the bonding of the shaft to the head. So try water as hot as possible and a brush as soft as possible. Good luck! -
Oh but you are assuming that all the skills involved in being a successful professional musician pertain to musical performance skills. There are song writing skills, PR skills, people skills, marketing of oneself...the list is infinate. Trust me I agree that skills on the fretboard, keys, skins (whatever) are often greater among the amateurs than the pros. I have to totally agree on that one. But it takes the total package to be successful. That's the same thing I see in pro golfers, the total package. They don't just hit long, they have great short games, mental tougness, putt well, can deal with touring pressure, deal with the press, etc.
-
As with ANYTHING on the face of the earth, the difference between being a really good amateur and a mediocre professional is huge. At some point, the improvements needed is exponentially greater as the skill improves. We all know a great musician that gigs local clubs. They are light years behind the paid studio and touring musicians. We all have a favorite local resturaunt. If you put that cook's dishes against a Gordon Ramsey or Jacque Pepin their dishes would taste like dog food. In a nutshell, when it comes to the PGA, these guys really are that good!

I'm kinda a feel player/putter. I have tried the line on the ball. But often times I would get over the ball and just "feel" it needed to be a little more right or left. Rather than re-spot the ball and go through my whole preshot routine, I just vaguely point the factory stamped line in the general direction, then ignore it and focus on my intermediate target and pace.

That's true! One thing I will give them is that the shaft lengths are the same as the irons they replace. That is quite rare. I thought I'd like that so I picked up a MX-950 3 hybrid (21*) and found that while it is more forgiving than a 3 iron, I hit it just as far and much lower than my Cobra DWS 23*. The Cobra is going back in the bag. My guess is that this is a European set. I also saw today where there was a MX wedge released only in Europe (or at least not in the US) that would fit perfectly with my MX23s. I'd love to get my hands on a set of GW,SW & LW!
-
Now I may very well be wrong about this...but I was not aware that they even had regular 4 and 5 irons as an option in the mx100s. Are the graphics blue and yellow or just blue. I ask because I wonder if they might have sent you the forged mx200s instead? If so, and you paid for the mx100s you got a bargain! Was this an e-bay transaction? ****sorry I just noticed you were in Europe. Specs may be different than in the U.S.

Bridgestone 330RX for 80 mph swing?
Stacey_E replied to LeafsFanNL's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I have not tried the RX yet. I do swing about 90 (give or take 2) and I love the e5+. It has amazing spin for a 2 piece, especially given it's durability. The high launch should be especially good for a slow swinger to maximize carry distance. I would highly recommend trying this ball unless you already hit the ball high and/or slice the ball. If that's the case maybe try the e6 or e7. Either way, for the money, Bridgestones mid-price balls are amazing. JMHO. -
804 BRAH. You speak in generalities on your skills BRAH. In one week you have went from shooting 41 to 45 BRAH. U mad BRAH? Oh your 9 iron distance went from 170 to 155 that means you've lost 1 clublength in a week BRAH. I'm just sayin what we've all been saying for a week BRAH. You're just a troll BRAH trying to drum up attention BRAH. U mad Brah? You can't tell us anything specific about your game BRAH. You can't post a legit video. All you can do is toot your own proverbial horn. You are not now nor will you ever be PGA pro. Why do we continue to feed this troll? Go ahead BRAH make fun of my handicap BRAH and my equipment BRAH and tell me how awesome you are BRAH. U mad BRAH? Ever hear tell of a song by Brad Paisley about being awesome online BRAH? Well that's all you BRAH! You are much cooler online BRAH. I only say all of this because many of us have tried to help you but you continue with the vague feedback. "I hit 35-45% of fairway" "I miss a lot of greens". Whatever BRAH. BTW who says BRAH? Go ahead and spew your vitriolic rebutal BRAH. That's all you are good for on this forum anyway. You've been a member here for a year yet half of your posts have been in this thread. Try, as one member's signature says, to be a fountain and not a drain. You know what a signature is right? The part where you list what's in your bag so when people ask you what's in your bag they don't get more vague answers like "driver, 3 wood...". So what's in your bag BRAH? Specifics, like "TaylorMade r7tp 3-pw" or "Titleist 755 4-pw dynamic gold s300s". So you playing Northwestern irons BRAH? Maybe a WalMart 540cc driver? Wow that rant felt sooooo good!

Well the great thing about sports is that they deal in the black and white and not grey areas. A ball is foul or not, a jumpshot is from behind the 3 point arc or not. I played 9 yesterday and here are my black and white stats on a par 35 front. Score: 6 over 41 Fairways: 6 for 6 UD from inside 100: 1 for 6 GIRS: 4 Putts: 18 Putts per GIR: 2.25 Birdies: 1 (putt from the fringe) I can infer several things from those raw stats. First, not enough GIRs given fairways hit. Second, not enough up and downs - 6 attempts tells you I dumped a pitch. I had two 3 putts, one on a GIR one after a pitch. Bottom line...short game sucked. But you can't infer much of anything about my distances. It's not how but how many. If you can be more specific about your results, we can all be more specific about any advice.
-
To the OP.... So how did those stats come out for you today? Since that round is fresh in your memory, maybe you can give us a little insight to your strengths/weaknesses when it comes to scoring on the course. You obviously have an active thread here, so why not use it to improve on how you can get the ball in the hole in less strokes?
-
So what club do you hit from 100 yards? 85? How many GIRs? How many putts per GIR? Fairways hit percentage? Up and down from inside 100?

I recently went to a senior flex in my irons and driver. I did this because 1.I hit the ball low, 2. I have a smooth tempo 3. I tried them first and was amazed at their performance FOR ME. Now I'm carrying my 7 iron 150-155 and which is about 5 yards farther and on a much higher trajectory than before. The point of that is this...here is someone else that can and does play with senior flex, graphite no less. JMHO the Nippon 950 is an awesome steel shaft for that type of swing. I'm not sure if they have a model designated "senior" but I'd give them a look anyway. When I hit them I got a solid feel with a nice high flight and plenty of spin. Maybe consider them on the short list? Good Luck!

Would this be an upgrade in wedges?
Stacey_E replied to C-Rope1's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
JMHO, these would be an upgrade for the OP. These wedges have great feel and feedback. I found them to be more consistant on chips than any wedge I've used. I had the black 56.12 and the 60 in a 7* bounce I think it was? Somewhat underated wedges except by TaylorMade afecinados. At 2 for $100, I don't see how you could go wrong. -
Mizuno Sora - Just picked up a set for the Wife
Stacey_E replied to socalsharky's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I'm just wondering how those clubs worked out for your wife SoCal? -
While I agree that O'hair's poor (relative term) play today had a lot to do with Tiger catching him, I also know that a lot of that had to do with having to play WITH Tiger. To ignore Tiger's intimidation factor and write the results off as another player's complete choke, as if it occurs in a vacuum, is to completly miss the point of what Tiger brings to the game....the fact that he is better than me, you and anyone else on the planet, period. He knows it, and we (including everyone on the PGA) knows it as well. He won't win all or even most tournaments. But the mental toughness and sheer intimidation is what fuels his fire more than Haney, Harmon or any swing coach or mechanics ever will. Sure O'Hair choked. I just believe Tiger had as much to do with that choke as he did with his own game. JMHO

Need advice on a good carry bag.
Stacey_E replied to Stacey_E's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Thanks guys! Good advice so far. I like the Nike bag mentioned above but am particuarly interested in the Sun Mountain Four 5. It's kinda funny that I'm starting to change my mind on dividers. After researching I'm starting to learn that the top divider is different than a full length divider. Right now, although it goes against what I said about a lot of dividers, I'm kinda leaning toward a Mizuno Twister III. TGW has them for $110 minus 15% with my discount code. That would come out to about $93. Does anybody have any experience with the Twister III? Thanks again all! I'm still open to other sugestions as well. -
The title says it all. My main criteria is lots of full length dividers (14 preferably) but secondly, of course, is having a relatively light weight. I wouldn't mind a little extra weight to add a little more protection and orginization to my clubs. I'd also like to have a comfortable strap (the dual shoulder kind) and legs that are sturdy and deploy easily. One more thing, I'd prefer if the top wasn't terribly slanted. I will still ride sometimes, and I've seen some carry bags have a restricted access when mounted in a cart. Well if that isn't a huge list of requirements, I don't know what is. I'm not really picky about a lot of extra storage. I can take it or leave it. I'd also be glad to hear about any of last years models. If I can find any in stock, I'd love more bang for my buck. Thanks in advance for the input!

Ping G5s and G2s are relatively cheap used and have square faces. I can't say for sure what the weight biasing is on those. But the do seem to be pretty "neutral". A lot of the drivers that have "pro" or "tour" in their names are neutral or slightly opened face. Also make note, a lot of drivers within the same model have differnt face angles based on the loft of the driver. Good luck!
-
I had that very same driver with a NV shaft in it a few years ago. I'm sure it had something to do with my swing, but it was a complete hook machine in my hands. It actually turned me off of 55 gram shafts for a long while. I got it in my head that the light shaft was making me get too quick. I'm sure that was more the archer than the arrow. If my memory serves me right, the 10.5* was 1* closed on that model. I've always prefered a square or slightly open driver myself, but with a slower SS (90 mph) and fairly low flight I need a high loft driver. Those are especially hard to find with a square face.

So what made all you guys choose R series over T series or vice versa? I'm just wondering if it purely an asthetics decision.

That is exactly what she should have done! I'm reminded of David Feherty's commentating on the Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07..."Does anybody know any hard games?" But I do find this story believable. Nice....
