What golf tip actually works?
Wangus94 replied to Michael Lee's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Yes in fact I was shown how many pros heads lower. I use the ground forces and it actually helps me rotate better and faster. Definitely don't rise up early and hump the goats as they say. That move actually dies the exact opposite . -

What's been working magic for me lately is the squat and thrust jump. Been taking me some time to implement, but by freezing my lower body, sitting into my heels and pushing up through impact I hit the ball miles.. -
Hitting Up or Down with the Driver in an Inline Pattern

Mr Woody, I certainly am a poser as you so eloquently put it. But you obviously didn't get what I was saying. I don't hit down, in fact on Trackman I hit up a little bit but my miss is and has always been to the left. I also hit the ball quite a bit further than 250 but that's because I'm athletic and can generate power. My problem is I don't know where it's going. When I try to hit up more I hook it even worse. There's some video floating around by this Maestro guy showing that hittin up causes slices but for me that's the furthest from the truth. If I could keep the ball in the fairway more and give up a little distance to do I be all over it... Like Pavin or Funk. I have no idea if they hit up down or what. Hitting straight and making sound swings has nothing to do with hitting up or down and that's exactly what several Trackman coaches told me... Straight from the horses mouth. Good day good sir. -
Hitting Up or Down with the Driver in an Inline Pattern

No way man... I'd rock that 80s fro-stache and hit 30 foot high baby pull cuts that go 250 all day baby.,All joking aside, I think hitting up on the driver is a noble pursuit but probably not going to lower handicaps. Most typical chops aren't ever going to be 'long' hitters. I can only speak for myself but aid rather learn to poke it straight than try to hit it further! I see a lot of double digits like me in here who talk like they're scratch lol... The blind leading the blind while the kettle calls the pot black hahaha -
Hitting Up or Down with the Driver in an Inline Pattern

Oh yea I totally agree that faster means further, that's pretty obvious. I'm thinking though that if a good player who swings pretty fast, maybe not tour speed, but decent speed, hits the ball fairly level and with the loft on the club.... he's not any less of a driver if he hits it's straight most of the time. If he starts hitting it higher and maybe in the air longer but not as straight you can't say he's 'better' at driving. Talk to Corey Pavin or Fred Funk about that one lol:~( -

How far you carry indicates how good you are? I disagree big dog. Maybe for someone who can't generate any speed but 10 more yards doesn't matter all that much to me if it ain't straight. Where I play you can't have wide dispersion off the tee and stay in play. If you can't carry it 100 yards you've got much bigger issues lol -
Hitting Up or Down with the Driver in an Inline Pattern

Those seem like pretty extreme numbers to me...,I hit up on the ball but swing to far from the inside and often snap a roo hahaha. -5 was like my 9 iron when I got on the Trackman. I doubt carry is more important than accuracy for us chops big dog. -

Dude I read through this and that's not what was being said I think. Isn't that guy just saying hitting up might throw other things off? I've heard several Trackman guys say that the attack angle thing is overrated. -
I'm trying to swing more left and get steeper.... wanna learn to hit more fades and less crazy hooks.

driver, how to not-hit down on the ball?
Wangus94 replied to late347's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Yea man no doubt... You should find one of these Trackman guys if you can. I was skeptical at first about all those numbers but this stuff is legit! I went to see this coach Cary Schoen and he's really getting me there quick! -

Dude what was your launch angle with that swing? Had to be a worm burner... hahaha with such little loft and hitting down that much. Holy Moses!!!! -
driver, how to not-hit down on the ball?

I've been really working on trying to hit up with mr driver but I'm hitting a lot of pulls. Hard to get used to having the ball that far forward. Hey man, that video drill is exactly like one Trackman Maestro made a couple years ago! -
I have the same problem with hooks except weight forward usually makes it worse I thought? I tend to slide my hips forward aggressively and drop my right shoulder too low. My weight is totally on my left but that side bending pushes my swing way out to the right and I flip my hands to compensate. Every instructor has easily noticed this ...lol. I keep getting told I need more turn less slide buts it's a bitch to do consistently... Feels like I'll hit a huge slice hahaha banana ball of the planet baby
-
I hear that! Need to to focus on my path mostly From what I've been told. It appears my hooks come from reacting to being way too inside out. I think I flip shit to not hit the ball off the planet right! I almost have to feel like I'm over the top , feels real weird and unnatural:(
-
Wow you guys are getting crazy again! I've tried all these swings... Except this 5 simple keys thing. I dig what you guys are doing, I mean everyone needs to control the club and face right? My head moves a lot but I don't really think that matters too much. This guy is right, everybody whose any good does these things anyway so it's not like it's some secret. I want to buy these DVDs and give it a shot... Buyuaa biscuits.

I shot an 83 today at Redhawk in Temecula this morning:-) would have been better if not for the a couple three puts. Seem to have the snap hooks more under control... Wowha
-
I guess it depends if you hit it as far as you should right? I mean, if you hit your 5iron 180 and it spins a lot that's not bad as long as your not losing distance? Hard to know if it's you or your clubs but you should get some roll with your driver I'd think
-
My new routine advised to me was to try to hit 3 shots the same, then try to hit 3 different shots, like a fade for example. I need to visualize more and make changes to my set up to create the shots I need. I used to set up the same way all the time and didn't even realize it. It's tough.. Hahaha

No bias there... lol. I think he pretty much summed it up right there. The reason neither have a question is because we're asking them to the wrong people. Otherwise we'd have answers. Very interesting to know then radar assumes the center of the 'blob' and the center of gravity when it might not be. I'm sure it's a good relatively accurate tool but both companies claims of near absolute accuracy is suspect.
-
Buddy I'm just a golfer trying to crack 80... none of this stuff is anything I know about just what I've been told. We can agree to disagree but quite a few are questioning the face measurement accuracy. I like the radar stuff. Like I said before, i got good info from Putter and he's close to me and knows what's up. Got a good perspective today on how to actually apply this stuff, what matters, and what doesn't. Schoen on the other hand... woaah, that guy has some mind blowing stuff. Guess I'll go back my old school instructor Johnny Gonzalez, he's the man.
-
Sure... I assume I'll be critiqued lol but this what I got. The face is calculated because the radar can't see it. The radar does this buy taking the launch direction of the golf ball against the target and then factoring in the clubs path and speed at which it's moving. Basically same deal with loft. Directly measures vertical launch of the golf ball then factors in angle of attack, speed and uses a formula to calculate what the face and loft must be based on these variables. There's concern how accurate these numbers really are when hit on the toe or heel because if the ball takes off in a different direction than the path, like left or closed, than the face would have to be closed to the path as well. If the ball was curving the opposite way however, than the machines guesses how much the club rotated or geared at the moment the ball was taking off the face. It's making an educated guess based off where the ball starts it's line and working backwards. These things basically assume center hits and if you make a swing from the inside say. You swing +5 degrees to the right, the ball starts +3 degrees right and has a negative spin axis to it ... than the strike had to be center. No one knows if the sweet spot was hit there because the reading is calculated as the ball is leaving and hard to say if club geared to that orientation or was struck there.
