Played 18 Monday, shot 84 (+14) at a new course, so that felt pretty good. Misses were mostly straight, really played well around the greens trying out some different clubs/shots for chips. I had a range session today, really focused on shoulder turn on the downswing (trying to focus on pulling the left shoulder up and back, it’s not easy given my current move). I feel like I am making small progress. I’m setting up open intentionally to encourage the shoulders to open up more through impact, and we discovered at my last lesson that I tend to set up quite closed.

Had a range session last night. Still focusing on the same things: trail should and hip “up” on the backswing, trail shoulder rotating toward the ball on the downswing, opening the shoulders more at impact. My teacher said this was going to be a long, tough road, and I believe it. This poorly shot drill swing is about the best looking thing I captured.

Had my first lesson today. He echoed a lot of the things previously noted here: try driving the left shoulder more down than around on the backswing (steady head), try to have shoulders more open at impact, etc. The pieces I wasn’t thinking about were hand path and club path. I’ve never hit on a launch monitor before, and it was very interesting to have all that immediate feedback. He gave me several thoughts to work on fixing my shoulder turn issues, and some feels for foot pressure and leg movement to hopefully aid opening up more. We had things looking very different by the end of the hour, which was fun to see. Scheduled another for a few weeks out. Plan is to do one more lesson and then a Ping fitting.

Hello everyone. The golf gods have pulled me back in, and I’m hoping it will stick this time. Just scheduled my first lesson in over a decade, so maybe some financial investment will help keep me in the game. Here are a couple of swings from tonight. Now that I’m back, still working on getting more depth in the backswing. 9i DTL: 60-70 yard LW DTL: Plan is to get a couple of lessons and then a fitting. These clubs are too short and 17 years old at this point. The instructor fits Mizuno and Ping, and the new Hot Metals Pros look great. The new Ben Hogan’s are also quite attractive, but I won’t have a fitting option.

So here I want to be feeling that may hands stay much closer to my legs and more pressure in my armpits getting to A2. It doesn't seem like I have a strong tendency to roll the club open and under the plane line, so if I can maintain that and keep my hands closer to my body, I can achieve a deeper and on plane backswing.
-
So a deeper backswing, one where may hands travel a bit more to the inside, would allow for more body pivot left, as the club is already on a more inside/out plane if I achieve a deeper backswing. Am I understanding that correctly? Approximate handicap is 18-20 I will add it above.

Just saw @saevel25 referring to this 5 keys video and thought I'd have a look at impact for myself. I have a lot of flip past impact, and thought this could be a result of not turning through impact enough. At impact it look like my hips have cleared some, but my shoulders are still quite square (maybe even closed) to the target. This could be a good drill for me.

Thanks man. So far I've been playing pretty well, and missing shots doesn't fluster me like it did when I was playing competitively. If I could get off the tee with more accuracy, I really think I could post some decent scores.

Got a new iPhone and a gorilla pod, so I'm able to video at my convenience now. I am just now getting back into the swing of it this season, didn't play any throughout the winter. I've probably played 36 holes over the last month or so, with just a few practice sessions. Still showing some contact issues. Ball flight is a draw. My misses with my irons are thin or off the toe (short). My driver is giving my the most difficulty, with my miss being a big push/fade. Priority piece is still Key #1. Trying to increase my shoulder tilt on the back swing. Trying to feel pressure on my left foot and extension through the right side. I use Mike's centered turn drill for practice swings, trying to really feel the bend in my left knee/pressure in the left foot. I don't think the swing looks a lot different from last year. Still struggling to keep my head still. These are 7-iron swings.

I think my favorite thing from today was Rickie's 17th in regulation. You could hear the conversation between him and his caddie, and he executed exactly what they were talking about. It's crazy how precise they can be in both their preparation for a shot and in actually executing a swing.
-
Couldn't have asked for a better finish. Rickie really impressed me last year at the majors, and I've been a big fan since. So stoked to see someone with some flair and personality win this event in particular.

Lets go Rickie!!

I've been super broke lately gearing up for the wedding, so getting to the range has been a no go. I've been working on pitching and chipping a lot lately, anywhere from 50 yards and in. I'm starting to get a bit more confident using the pitching technique around the greens.
-
That just looks SO painful. I can't imagine how that works for her.
-
I've seen it said here many times that high-bounce wedges can be used in tight lie situations, but the areas around the greens at #2 are SO tight! Assuming that her wedges are higher bounce, would this be detrimental for her around the greens?

Where are y'all watching this?

Nice hole out on 5!

Good player with clubs with fatter soles?
suchjosh replied to dbbb's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Though this is probably true, with players irons, you will see a significant loss of distance control on off center hits. On the other hand, game improvement irons will give you more consistency on off center hits. It is certainly a give and take, and OP ought to swing whatever gives him the best results. I say ditch what you've got and try out something with a thicker sole. Ping I25, Titleist AP1/2 etc. -
Know Any Really Good Golfers That Completely Quit Due to Frustration?
suchjosh replied to Todd Ruggere's topic in Golf Talk
I think taking a couple of weeks off when frustrations reach a climax is probably normal and good for our sanity. And, as you said, it can often be good for your game. -
My 6 year old played his first 9 holes of golf this past weekend

He has a pretty athletic swing! -
I couldn't imagine having 240 left into a par 4 after hitting the fairway with my drive. You can practically hear the announcers wishing that Kaymer would draw a bad lie out in the native area.
