  1. could not agree more... my next purchase is the rife barbados...
  2. you can't go wrong with either. for my money, i'd go with the mizuno for the simple reason that you could probably play with them for a very long time i.e. until you get down to the low teens in hcap. once you are regularly shooting high 80s or low 90s (or around 18-20 hcap) you'd be changing out of the Fusion. also, the mizuno is forged, and hence should feel better than the Fusion.
  3. perhaps you should change to hybrids ... for sure with the 4i and perhaps also the 5i (since you are having trouble), but you may want to assess what you are doing wrong if you can't hit your 6i. See a pro for both your swing and also the iron specs, which may be wrong (length, lie) for you.
  4. if you have a habit of missing shots towards the toe, the switch may prove useful.
  5. +1 i like this idea, the yardages are probably more relevant for the wedges where you can put in the Pelz 7.30, 9.00 and 10.30 back swing yardages...
  6. i have the 4W and not the 3W but here's what i think. Great off the tee - good distance and trajectory. Can't hit it well enough off the deck because of the deep face.
  7. it usually works out cheaper by the set, unless there are irons you want to replace (e.g. 3 & 4 for hybrids) or add (GW). but the newer sets should have options for the hybrids and GW as a set.
  8. for this reason (more consistent and truer roll), i'd like to try a center shafted putter. however, i like the look of the "offset" on an anser like putter. with the CS putters, they go straight in. something to adjust for and see what the results are like. think i will get the Rife Barbados CS. anyone made a switch from offset to straight in shaft? did you have to adjust your set up and stroke?
  9. never tried them but will get a sleeve to do so. Golf Digest rated them very highly. I think the caption was "most amount of technology for the price point" or something to that effect. Let us know how they play.
  10. don't think you could go wrong with either, really... but i read somewhere that Nickent (the company) may be in trouble... is there any truth to that?
  11. truth is I like people leaving their broken tees behind, although 20 might be excessive. that way I can always pick up such tees for teeing up my fairway wood (driving with my 4W now instead of driver until I can find one that works) and on par 3s. i haven't spent any money on tees for quite a while now.
  12. I'd also like to find out. If I hit my driver (10.5-deg, regular shaft, Proto By You) flush is will go 260 yards. My (stronger lofted 28-deg) 6i goes 164 yards. As a driver is swung off a tee, but the irons off the deck, the swing speed for the irons tend to be slower than for the driver. Is there an "average drop" in swing speed from driver to irons? Or how is there a formula to calculate iron swing speed? Many thanks
  13. don't think your friend can go too far wrong with the launcher combo set if he's just starting golf... he could certainly do a lot worse. No use getting too nice a set now, as by the time he becomes more proficient and starts club ho-ing, his choices will be many.
  14. i've just given up on my driver. tee off with my 4W now. 220 yards and straight in the middle of the fairway. until i can find a replacement driver that goes straight (via a proper fitting rather than off the shelf), I'll stick to this strategy. If there's a (low index hole) long par 4, I'll just play it as a "par 5". that suits my 18-hcap just fine.
  15. i had no idea that America had turned into a country where you can't joke about politicians anymore... since when did the USA turn into a military dictatorship?
  16. i play graphite shafts for driver thru GW which comes with the set, and steel shafts in the specialist wedges (SW and LW). I don't have any issues and find that I prefer the steel shafts in the "specialist" wedges.
  17. I would buy them in a heartbeat... the Cally X-14 is a classic SGI iron... when Callaway made the X-16, sales dropped and so with the X-18, then X-20 and now X-22, they have reverted to the original X-14 albeit with minor improvements given technological advances... and improved aesthetics
  18. +1 try a Cleveland CG12 or a Vokey, just to get a taste of what they are like
  19. It's sad to see a No. 1 player in the world "lose it" completely. Anyway, I think his heart isn't in golf anymore. He doesn't know what else to do, so he starts playing again, and his results show his heart isn't in it anymore. Sad, sad, ... At least he doesn't need the money. On the plus side, that should free him from worrying about where his next meal is coming from and actually help his focus on golf. Imagine if you were between 126-150 in ranking and worrying about your card, etc. That kind of pressure will screw you up after a while.
  20. Good on you. Personally I'm not a 9-hole person. I find that it takes me a few holes to "warm up" and if I stop after nine, I'm probably in the middle of "peak form" when having to walk away from the course. And that feels horrible.
  21. Since you are after a 4W, I am assuming that you will use it as both a back up driver and also from off the fairway. For the second function, I'd go with something that has a shallow face... and of the 4 you've picked, my preference is the G10.
  22. Nike is all about TW and TW is always black/red on sundays.... enough of a reason?
  23. Yes, in his earlier book - The Only Golf Lesson You'll Ever Need - he was stuck on Mark Omera. I guess it's who his star pupil is at that moment.
  24. It's usually difficult to compare players from different eras. Having said that, Tiger is ahead of Jack on many fronts and on his way to surpassing most of Jack's records (except coming in 2nd at majors). So, with that in mind, I'm gonna say Tiger.
  25. Same here. I just hate it when you stand over a ball on the tee and the glasses start to slide down your nose. But being short sighted, hating contacts (cleaning, putting them in, taking them off, etc) and swearing off lasik, what choice is there? Alas...
