Paula Creamer and the Great American Tantrum

Yes, we would be thrilled to do well at her job, but would you be happy with the kind of day she had in your work? I daresay that most of us have been frustrated and ticked off at co-workers (right or wrong) from time to time, and allowed it to show. -
Well, TGC is hardly an authoritative source for critical thinking when it comes to Wie. They had her winning the grand slam--at least they said the women's grand slam. I'm no fan of Winless, but I will give her due credit for actually qualifying for a card, or attempting to qualify if she doesn't make it. It's been clear for at least two years that the strategy of going for freebies and special treatment hasn't advanced her abilities as a golfer or an adult. Regardless of how she does, this is a step forward. Now, my cynical side demands to be heard: my guess is her sponsors pressured her into this. They can't be happy with the circus her "career" has become.

I've found that walking helps. At first, you'll perhaps feel stiff and end up taking quite short strides, but as you warm up and loosen up, you'll gradually be able to walk more of your normal pace. The old advice about staying immobile in bed, on the floor, etc is undergoing scrutiny. The thought is now going towards being more active as tolerated by the pain/discomfort. If you have pain or numbness radiating down your legs, get checked out, as that could be a sign of something more than "just" muscle spasms.

One of the best things I've found for golf and general fitness is a good yoga class. You get core strength, balance, and flexibility. Not to speak of breathing control and a more relaxed mindset.

Me, too. Tiger is no doubt the best player today, and by a wider margin than Jack was in his day. But, being the best over time is important in sports, and Jack still ranks number one all time because of his unsurpassed major record.

Yes, but it displaces attention from the things about me that are even more ridiculous. You play the hand you're dealt.

Hey, you must be a Cub fan from roughly my era. "Let's Play Two" Ernie was one of my childhood idols, and still is a far better example of an athlete and a gentleman than most pros in just about any sport today. Sorry for getting off topic, folks.

As far as the cramping goes, that could be caused by poor hydration. Sounds like you are drinking plenty of fluids while playing, but the time at the bar may negate that, since alcohol is a diuretic and acts to dehydrate you. It can also throw your electrolytes out of balance. -
RN for a hospice service. It's a second career for me. The first one was gas supply for natural gas pipelines and utilities.

Since the people who are paying the money to the players--at least right now--communicate largely in English, it makes sense for the players to learn English to connect with the public. I think over the next few years, the LPGA will be playing a lot more often in other countries and that will alter the language question considerably.

While there aren't as many days suitable for golf, especially at the course, I certainly play in winter. I hate hot weather, and I'd much rather play at 40 degrees than 90+, with high humidity. As far as the range, you can comfortably hit balls with the temp well below freezing.

There may be a choice over what to do in a joke, but I doubt anyone would elect to finish a round of golf in a real crisis of this sort. OTOH, I keep my cell phone turned off when I'm playing golf, so I wouldn't know until the round was over...........Ingorance truly is bliss!

Caddyshack is my numero uno. The Greatest Game Ever Played was also first rate. No film approaches the number of mentions and quoted lines as Caddyshack generates among golfers.
-
One of the things I see a lot of people do is equate the number of balls hit with quality practice. Obviously, I don't know about you, but perhaps you could help your game, and your wallet, if you slow down, think about each shot, aim carefully, follow your pre-shot routine, and hit one bucket instead of two.

We've been hearing the "it's only a matter of time" comment for nearly a decade now. He's had several spendid chances, and managed to lose every one. Sunday, as I recall, he had a one stroke lead with what, three or four to play? He lost by two, and finished bogey , par, bogey, missing a birdie putt at 17 that was certainly easier than the one Padraig made. It's hard to consider that as performing well under pressure. That takes nothing away from Harrington, who applied all the pressure, which Sergio once again couldn't handle.
-
Who knows? He wasn't there, so he is irrelevant. As he will be the remainder of the season.
-
I'm not so sure. Woods may or may not be the same player. You never really know with injuries. Plus, I'm surprised that Tiger did something so dumb as to continue to play on his bum knee. If there's one thing that's defined his career it's that he's been the smartest guy out there. I am and will continue to be a TW fan, but seeing that he's subject to injury--in other words, mortal--could change the mindset of his rivals.

I would hesitate to call many of the people at TGC "experts" outside of Nobilo and maybe Chamblee. The rest are really Nike pimps.
-
Part of the reason for the lack of attention is that Harrington saves his best golf for the back nine on Sunday. He quietly gets himself into postion, and then blows the leaders away. While they're choking, he makes every putt in sight. BTW, I was surprised that only 11 players made the cut in all four majors this year.
-
I was pulling for Harrington, but Sergio held it together pretty well. End of the story though is he bogeyed two of the last three holes, and missed a pretty easy putt on 17. It wouldn't be out of line to call that a collapse under pressure. I'll give Sergio good marks on his post round comments: he dealt well with some pretty foolish questions that were simply designed to bait him.

For a couple minutes, it almost looked like Padraig was going to repeat his 18th hole at Carnoustie as well. But, like he did all day, he made the putt when he had to.
-
For my money: T-1 US Open and PGA 3 British Open 4 Masters The battle between Woods and Mediate was an excellent one, as was today's between Herrington and Garcia. I think Padraid played better golf today than Tiger did on Sunday or Monday at the US Open.
-
I think the only really relevant criteria is wins, and in particular major wins. At this point, Jack is still ahead. I've always thought Woods will pass Jack's record, and if/when he does, I vote for Tiger as the BOAT.

I'd be interested in the physiological basis for Pelz's comment. I don't know why having a more efficient cardiovascular system, or having more muscle mass would affect the nerves that sense and convey instructions to muscle in a negative manner. Perhaps Pelz is just looking for excuses for the failure of his teaching.

Agreed. PM is one of the very top players in the world. He shouldn't be taking the advice of a slightly glorified number-cruncher as gospel. Golf is much more art than science.
