  1. Well, I am very new to this game and this is actually my first off season. My plan has been (and still is during the dreadful winter in Sweden) to play a indoor simulator every second week during the winter and as soon as the driving range opens (I guess that wil be open 3-4 weeks before my home course), I will be trying to hit the range appr 3-4 per week until the course opens. I will probably still play badly on the course, but at least I should not be completely off.
  2. I agree on this. I just looked at the yardage at my homecourse and it is appr. 6000 yards....so it would for sure be more difficult to reach the same number of scores on a 7000 yards
  3. I broke 100 after appr 4 months of playing. During that time I played once a week and had about 2 range sessions in between each week. It was actually the first time I played 18 holes. Before that all rounds had been 9 holes. To be honest I did not expect to go under 100, but counted the strokes for fun after the round and was positively surprised to see a score of 98. After that round I only played a few more rounds last season (damn snow!), but they were about the same numbers. My home course is not the toughest in the world though, so I do not think I would make it on a more difficult course.
  4. I really like the indoor simulators. I would rather be out playing, but living in mid Sweden, we have quite a lot of snow during the winter. I am new to the game and for me I do believe it is valuable to get some indoor practicing done in the winter. This past Saturday I had my worst simulator round so far. We played a really tough course and since most of the holes had the sea directly to the right and forest to the left, it did not help me alot since I am battling with a nasty slice with the driver right now...still fun though!
  5. Thanks for the tips everyone. It seems that tour Exotics are not sold in Sweden, so it might be hard for me to try them here...but I will make sure to scan the used market to see what i can find of your suggestions....and of course visit a golf store or two to test as many as i can. I did try a older (2009?) Cobra FW 5 (I think it was a S3, need to check) yesterday which I played very well. Pretty long and straight shots everytime (played in a simulator). Hopefully I can get that used for a nice price
  6. Thanks! Yes, I am planning to visit a few shops and try to hit as many as possible. Good also to get some info on a bit older clubs, since if i am lucky I may find something cheap
  7. hi, I am newbie to golf (started last summer). I play a set of older Callaways (Older Big Bertha 9 degree driver, X-3 wood, Heaven wood 20 degree hybrid, X-18 irons). I am pretty ok with the driver and irons, but I have lot´s of trouble hitting the hybrid and 3 wood ok. I usually slice it very much ( a problem I do not have with the other clubs)). So I am thinking of trying to test some hybrids/3-5 woods during the winter and see if I can find anything that I like. So any tips for easy to hit hybrids and 3-5 woods are very welcome. new or a bit older does not really matter. I play stiff shaft in the driver and regular in the 3 wood and hybrid, I wonder if that can be part of the problem?
  8. The simulator I have been playing seems to have the yards ok for short game shots. We have mostly been using "auto putt" (you do not put) since we found it hard to get the right feeling when putting, but the yardage seemed fine for that to.
  9. Luckily I have found a simulator close by in my homeown to help me through the cold winter months here in Sweden. So the plan is to go there appr every second week to keep the swing alive during the winter
  10. I managed to do my first duoble digit a few weeks ago (98), I had actually not counted strokes earlier, only points, but for fun I counted the strokes based on this thread just to see how far I was to reach 100...and got very surprised when I read the score of 98. Nice feeling. I have only played since late this summer so I am happy with that score. On that round I must say that I played a bit over my ability with my driver (made fairway with all drivers except one). After that round I have only played 9 hole rounds, but my score have been around 47-48 each time, so I guess (at least on that place) that is where I am in my golfing so far....now I will try to think of a strategy to reach 90. Winter is coming here in Sweden, so I will have a lot of time to think until spring :-(
  11. I have no advice for you (other than I think your plan sounds good), I just want to say: Go for it! Good luck in your quest to be a proffessional!
  12. I am on my first season of golf, so I really want to be able do do some training during the winter. I live in Sweden which is a very cold place, so in a couple of weeks I guess the nearby courses will close. I do think that there might be a indoor range in a town close by as well as a couple of simulators, so I will try to get there fairly regurarly this coming winter
  13. Yes! Just do it! I think you have got good advices in this thread...have fun!
  14. I am a beginner as well, so I am not sure how valid my advice is, but anyway. I started this summer using appr.20-25 year old clubs that I was given for free a couple of years ago. I have recently bought a set of Callaway X-18 which I really like, very easy to play and they were in good condition with nice grips. I am planning to use these for a couple/few years until I feel that I have reached a certain level in my game and have a reliable swing. After that I plan to get fitting done for a new set.
  15. Thank's for the welcome guys!
