I agree. With my irons I know if I hit a little off, but with my hybrid and 3 wood it is not AS distinguishable in the feel or sound. They are easy to work though. From what I have heard the 585.H was a big improvement over the model they replaced (503.H?). Maybe the 909's will follow suit and allow more feedback.

WOW! I don't necessarily have a problem with "clones" if the person buying them knows the difference between TaylorMade and TylerMade. My first set was an R7 wanna be from Sports Authority. For a beginner set they were ok. The graphite was more like PVC, the heads were a metal "blend", but, a $1000 set of clubs would not have made any difference in my game at that time. If I had to do it over again, I would buy a set of used quality clubs. But that's just me.

Easiest to read GPS?
jonjones replied to calgolfer's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I used both. They each did their job effectively. The SG5 has more bells and whistles, but, the GL8 does have larger numbers. I liked the idea of having more targets identified. I went with the SG5. It has worked flawlessly for me. As far a price, yes, the SkyCaddie annual subscription is more and the unit itself is more expensive. But, I would suggest eBay. I bought mine for $300 new. The GL8 is waterproof, but, I played in the rain once with the SG5 and it worked fine. I don't see myself doing any underwater chipping and putting so that was not a deciding factor for me. I have not used any of the older SkyCaddie's so I can't speak to their quality or performance, but I have been happy with the SG5. -
Skycaddie SG5 or GolfLogix?

Sorry for the late reply. I like the Intelligreen feature. It is just a visual though. The GL gives the same info just no graphic. Yes, Intelligreen, as well as a few of the other options, were the deciding factor for me. -
well, i tried it las weekend and here's how it went. i played on a par 60 course. i only hit about 10 balls on the range to warm up. the front 9 was horrible. i shot a 44. i just couldnt find my groove (not to mention 3-putts on both par 4's). i didnt want to abandon the s&t; so i stuck with it. on the back 9 i started to trust my swing and got in rythm and shot a 36. more time is needed to realy understand this swing, but, i feel good on the range, and my back is not as sore. we'll lets see how i play this weekend. i dont know if i would go as far as calling it a 'fad', but, it has generated alot of attention. i was listening to a commentator (dont remember who) a while back. he said, that eventhough the pro's might have different swing types (furyk, perry, weir, etc) they all look the same at impact. i agree with you Prodigy, what counts is an efficient swing.

I started playing about 3 years ago. I was forced take some time off for over a year. I’ve been back to playing for about 4 months straight. My HC is 18 now and slowly improving. Since I saw this post a few days ago I have tried a few of the fundamentals of the S&T.; Although I have only been practicing with it on the range for 3 days, I have been striking the ball better. The biggest thing I have noticed is I am keeping my head still a lot more. I used to be worried about where I was hitting the ball and would always pick my head up. The other thing was the weight shift. It has been hard to get that into my subconscious. So far S&T; feels ok but the test will be on the course this weekend. Lets see if I can get in the "trusting" mode.

it wasnt a press conference, it was his newsletter: NEWSLETTER September 16, 2008 By Tiger Woods My rehabilitation is going well. Although I won't be able to swing a club until early next year, my left knee is getting stronger and the doctors are pleased with my progress. I just can't rotate on my leg and I still don't know what my first event will be in 2009. As for being away from the game, there are definitely certain things I miss. I miss the competition, and I miss the preparation. If I tried to play now, you would see some of the worst shots you've ever seen. I plan to watch the Ryder Cup this week, but I will not attend. U.S. captain Paul Azinger has my cell phone number and he or any US player can call me any time. If I can offer any assistance, I'm happy to help. I doubt I can do much, since I can't play practice rounds and am not privy to their team chemistry. I also don't know who is playing well, who is injured, and have no feel for how the course is playing. But I'll be happy to offer my opinion. I wish the American team well and hope they can bring back the Cup. The next big event on my schedule is the fourth annual Block Party on Oct. 11 in Orange County. This year, we're looking forward to a gourmet dinner prepared by Chef Mario Batali and a musical performance from Seal, who was fantastic at Tiger Jam III back in 2000. The Block Party has been a huge success for us and is our way of thanking the local community for supporting the Learning Center. So far, the event has raised about $3 million for the Center's career exploration programs. I recently spent time at my golf course design projects, Al Ruwaya Golf Course in Dubai and at The Cliffs at High Carolina in North Carolina, reviewing the progress of both. The two are going very well. I also spent a couple days in New York, where we launched my new EA Sports video game: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09. I attended a reception and U.S. Olympians Michael Phelps, Bryan Clay, Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor stopped by to say hello. I enjoyed hanging out with them, and Phelps was naturally exhausted. It was nice of him to stop by and wish me luck with my new video game launch. I watched most of the Olympics on television and have to say his performance was definitely one of the all-time feats of any individual athlete in one Olympics. I also went to a New York Yankees-Boston Red Sox game with a few friends. Afterward, I caught up with my buddy Derek Jeter. I was hoping to go see Roger Federer play in the U.S. Open, but it never worked out. He had reached three Grand Slam finals in a row and I was glad to see him win. We always give each other a hard time. He now has 13 Grand Slam titles and is one way from the record held by Pete Sampras. He's closer than I am to the record; I have 14 titles and Jack Nicklaus has 18. But I might be playing competitively a little longer than him. As you have probably heard, Elin and I will become parents again, and we're as thrilled as you can possibly be. Elin is doing great and is perfectly healthy. The only difference this time is we're getting less sleep because of Sam. We didn't want to know if it was a boy or a girl the first time, and we're not going to find out this time. That's all for now. Thanks for reading and talk to you soon. Tiger -
Skycaddie SG5 or GolfLogix?
jonjones replied to nutsnbolts's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Personally, yes. Initially I purchased the unlimited state courses. Since I play in 3 other states I will upgrade when the time comes. One feature I used yesterday was on the driving range. I don't know how many courses have their ranges mapped, but it is a cool feature. The range I went to was your typical range: 8 flags, varying distances. With the exception of one flag (100 yard difference, obviously needs to be updated), all were pretty close to the signs. They were 2-3 yards off, but how accurate are the signs. If I look down 2-3 stations they all have the same yardages, but the SC5 adjusted as I moved from one station to the next. Of course my rangefinder gives me the exact/actual distance from the point I am hitting from. -
updated now that i have a signature...

Skycaddie SG5 or GolfLogix?
jonjones replied to nutsnbolts's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
UPDATE: I recently purchased a SkyCaddie SG5 to compare with the GolfLogix8. Below is my limited comparison. Keep in mind, I only used the GolfLogix8 twice and the SkyCaddie SG5 once. Ease of use : Both were easy to use. Just one quick glance over the instructions on either unit and start using. Software : The software on both units was easy to use and intuitive. Hands-off : The GL is the most hands-off unit. Just page up or down to advance, check hazards, mark ball and check distance of last shot etc. The SG5 is equally hands-off if the user so desires. You have the option to scroll through more hazards and mark your ball as well, but, you have the option of viewing more hazards than the GL. Battery use : I only used the GL for 2 rounds, but, it still had ~75% battery life after. The SG5 was used for 1 round and appeared to have ~90% battery life. The nice thing about the GL is it uses AA batteries. Just throw a couple in your bag just in case and you are good to go. With the SG5, make sure you have enough juice before your round or your SOL. Size/ergonomics : Both are relatively easy to hold and operate. The GL has buttons on the side which is a little awkward for me, but not a deal breaker. I have used other Garmin GPS devices so I am used to it. The SG5 is more ‘cell phone’ like in that all the buttons are on the face. The GL body is shorter and narrower than the SG5 (in addition the SG5 has an external antenna), but is thicker, again, not a deal breaker. The clip on the GL is in the middle of the unit. It spins easy, almost too easy. When I walked it would start to rotate sideways, upside down and around. The SG5 has the clip at the top of the unit so it hangs right side up all the time. Display : The GL’s display is crisp and easy to read with large numbers. It also has a backlight for lowlight conditions. The SG5’s display is crisp and easy to read as well, but is in color and has the “intelligreen” feature along with graphical icons for the hazards, bunkers, water etc. It also has auto brightness which adjusts to the ambient lighting conditions. The SG5 also has the option to use a dark or light background for easier viewing. The SG5 now has what they call “3D Icons” to enhance the display. Cost : The GL is $300 shipped, or 6 monthly payments of $50 plus $25 shipping. Retail on the SG5 is $429 plus shipping. I purchased mine on eBay for $336 brand new shipped (dont know if I can give the seller a plug on the forum or not, but pm me and I will tell you who, or do a search). Annual Cost : The GL is $30/yr for unlimited worldwide course download. SG5 is $30 for unlimited courses in 1 state, $50 for unlimited courses in the US, and $60 for unlimited courses worldwide (twice the price of GL). These are the most notable observations I made while using both units. It is by no means a comprehensive comparison, but, if you have any questions please feel free to ask. If I can help I will. The hardest part about deciding on anything is having as much information as possible. -
I hate to admit it, but, yes. On a 140 yard par 3 I hit off to the right of an elevated bunker. The bunker has a stone retaining wall about 18” tall. I proceeded to hit with my 58 degree and skulled it. The ball hit the wall and flew straight back at me. Let's just say I wasn’t having a good day.

Why Are You Passionate About Golf?
jonjones replied to ks8829's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
because its a tough sport and i hate to be beat. but, at the end of the day, regardless of how i shot overall, there was those few shots that made it all worth it. remember, a bad day golfing beats a good day working. -

GPS vs Laser Rangefinder
jonjones replied to greenail's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I use both. A Pinseeker 1500 TE and a GolfLogix8. I use the GPS to track my last shot, and for yardages outside of 150 yards. I use the RF for yardages inside of 150 yards or from the short par 3's. My play isn't the best, but, atleast it helps me take some of the guesswork out of the equation and just concentrate on the shot. -
VERY true. That being said, I carry a Pinseeker 1500 TE AND a GolfLogix8 GPS.

Skycaddie SG5 or GolfLogix?
jonjones replied to nutsnbolts's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
i bought the GolfLogix last week and tried it out this past weekend. 2 rounds and it worked perfectly, if only my game was perfect. very simple, just look at it and pick a club. im sure the sg5 would do the same but has a few more bells and whistles. the one feature i would like, from either, is to be able to record your shots and review. you can get the distance of your last shot, but, you still have to write it down to record it.
