I love my 60* lob wedge. I find it's far easier to hit it consistently than, say, a 4-iron. If they ban it, I'd be bummed. Well, that's not entirely true. I'd just bend it to 59*...

Fairway woods: What type do you use?
silentfink replied to titaniummd's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I recently ditched my Callaway X-Hot 3-Wood and Ping G5 5-Wood in favor of a used Sonartec NP-99 4-Wood. I absolutely love the way it feels and launches the ball, and it frees up a spot in my bag for another wedge. -
You forgot another reason: They look sweet.

Next season I will likely carry two of the following three, depending on course setup and amount of faith I happen to have in each one: (1) Sonartec MD 19* (2) Callaway X-Hybrid 21* (3) Nickent 5DX 24.5* The Nickent is due to arrive in a few days. Definitely looking forward to seeing it!

Least favorite golf personalities (player or journalist-tv or print)

Gary McCord is horribly, horribly annoying. He tries so hard to be funny and fails so miserably. I'd rather listen to nails on a chalkboard at volume 11. The crying shame of it is the fact that he wrote the Golf for Dummies book, which is, in my opinion, a fantastic place to start if you're learning the game. Unfortunately, hearing him commentate makes those same beginners want to quit the game! -
Poker. Lots of it.

You might want to check out the Eidolon V-Soles. If you don't like them, they'll buy you the wedge of your choice.

Slow Golfer....how do ask them to speed up....
silentfink replied to juanrjackson's topic in Golf Talk
I usually just tell the person that we're not on the PGA Tour and to play faster. If it's a beginner, explaining "ready golf" also helps. I will say this, though: There's no need to sugar-coat it. Slow play is not acceptable and should not be tolerated. It's as big a breach of etiquette as speaking during someone's backswing or stepping on their line. It ruins everyone's day, including those within his group as well as all of the groups behind. And, if he can't take the criticism and/or refuses to play faster, I will not play with him/her again. -
I haven't worn one in years. I used to, but I like the added feel I get when not having it on. If I start getting blisters, I know I'm gripping the club incorrectly, so it gives me an added level of feedback...

Best Golf Course Bargain you have ever enjoyed?

Bethpage Black. US Open Course for 50 bucks! -
Golf Magazine has an article reviewing the best 18 courses in the US: http://www.golf.com/golf/special/art...843994,00.html What is the point of having this list? Only three of the courses can be played by the general public and those cost over $300 per round! I find it frustrating and a bit condescending that they keep coming up with these types of lists that serve only to make the private club members feel good about themselves (like they need it) and make the rest of us feel like crap about the fact that we will never, ever get to play them. I bet they put these elitist lists together just so the editors/writers can play a free round on the course. I can see the conversation now: Editor/Writer: Um, can we play on your course? Golf Course: Are you a member? Editor/Writer: Uh, no... Golf Course: I'm sorry, we don't allow your types around here. Editor/Writer: Please let us play here! Golf Course: I'm calling the police... Editor/Writer: We'll write a cover story about how good your course is! We'll call it the 'Top 18 courses in the U.S.' Golf Course: Let me get back to you about that. (Shuffling of papers... Muffled argument in background... Deep sigh....) Golf Course: Ok, you can play here. On a Monday. And don't you dare write anything bad. Editor/Writer: Really? Thanks! Me and my buddies, er, um, ah, our readers will really appreciate this!

I'm a fan of Spook Rock. It's around 20 miles north of the GWB (up the Palisades and then off the NYS Thruway).

Would a 56 degree work from sand?
silentfink replied to King Cobra II's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I currently use a 56* SW with 15* of bounce. I'm in the process of upgrading my set and think the next SW will have 10* of bounce. I play NYC public courses that generally have very little sand in the bunkers. And, if they do have sand, it's usually quite hard. If I was playing in fluffier sand, I'd definitely go with 12-15* of bounce. -
I'm still waiting for the first one. Who knows, maybe it will be on a par 3... :)

I was playing yesterday and we discussed this exact subject. We agreed that we love it because we get to hang out with 3 friends in a beautiful environment playing a game that is full of surprises. Love it.
