  1. In his convention speech last night Fred Thompson said she was the only candidate from either party who could field dress a moose. Better watch out for Obama guys. He, and his environmentalist buddies, could easily declare golf courses as environmentally insensitive...too many chemicals, waste of water. etc. And just think about how much Section 8 housing you could put on the typical 18 hole track.
  2. I keep mine in storage at my club. A small tip after each round assures that they are clean and ready for my next round. One downside though. Recently a new attendant brought up my wife's bag (powder blue print, girlie headcovers, etc.) upon which I heard a fellow player proclaim, "Nice bag, RD".
  3. What about the infamous "Texas Rule"?
  4. I've been a member at 4 private clubs around the country over the years. I recently joined Cedar Point CC in Suffolk, VA. It's the first club I've belonged to that allows walking. They have available "speed" push carts that allow one to walk and not be limited to a light weight carry bag. As for speed of play I see little difference. Plus, being a mid-capper I don't have to carry half my clubs with me to the area around the green. No worries about the 90 degree rule or the dreaded "Cart Paths Only".
  5. I don't think the range in the poll was realistic, particularly for this forum. Over 52% in the $201 category is proof. Those spending less than $200 arn't following "Sand Trap." As for me dues at my club are $400 per month, carts are $15/round, speed carts (my preference) are $3/round. It's easy to spend $600/month. But, like I tell my wife, I'm not chasing women.
  6. I agree that other players affect your game. I have one friend that I play with only occasionally. His swing is nearly as bad as Barkley's. I tend to turn my back until his ball is airborne. I sometimes also have difficulty with lefties. Anyone else?
  7. No animals in this one. Early one Saturday morning we were teeing off on the old Tropicana course in Las Vegas. My friend Jack had been partying all night and showed up just in time to tee off. He tees it up and lets it rip. He hits a low burner left into the Ladies Tee marker. It bounces straight back, Jack catches it left handed on the fly and re-tees.
  8. I have a three step routine for this: 1) Bounce it once 2) Bend over 3) Pick it up

    Blue Tees?

We didn't want to play through because I was treating my nephew to a birthday round. He only gets to play 3 or 4 times a year and was having his own problems (from the whites). I'm kind of sorry I started this thread. I meant to show no animosity to the fivesome in front. I don't care if they play the Blues. They can play the Blacks for all I care. My only intent was to express my opinion that they may have had a more enjoyable day had they moved forward a bit. I AM NOT THE TEE NAZI!
  10. I'll bet you were entitled to relief under the abnormal groung rule. Kind of like Sergio got on the second playoff hole at Barclays.

    Weird round

A few years ago, while playing to a 12 handicap, I shot an ugly 46 on the front. I was so disgusted I told my buddies I was going to skip the back nine and go home and nap. They convinced me to keep going. I shot a career best 33 on the back for a "smooth" 79.
  12. I guess I'm lucky. I store my clubs at my course. After each round I give them to the attendant along with 5 bucks. When I next show up they sparkle.
  13. Live to play golf in 2009.
  14. What did you shoot? Did she beat you?

    Blue Tees?

Harry Longshanks is the only guy that gets it! He gets the prize. I wasn't in any way complaining about the group up front...and NO, there was no one backed up behind us. My point was (pay attention here guys) that these guys would, in all probability had more fun and better stories to tell had they played from the whites. My favorite response was the guy that said I must be "under 30" and thus bashing the older guys. I'll be 59 in November. I gave up golf in 1998 and just picked it up again in June this year. I belong to Cedar Point Country Club in Suffolk, VA (best kept secret in the game) and play to a 15. By the way, I generally play from the whites (6100 yds) but sometimes the Blues (6500 yds), but not yet the Blacks (7200). Call me a wuss, I'm too old to care.

    Blue Tees?

Yesterday afternoon I played at my club. The course was wide open for our 11:40 start. After several holes we caught up with a fivesome (which we shouldn't allow but we do). This group of 30 - somethings were all decked out with the latest gear; clubs, bags, apparel. The only way to describe their play is awful. To a man I don't think they made a really good shot. To their credit they offered to let us play through, but we were in no hurry (and it wasn't a bad show). Someone please tell me why they were playing the blue tees (we have 5 sets available)? We just wanted to tackle them. Ego is one thing, but isn't golf supposed to be fun. In their 30's I assume they have jobs, only getting to play on the weekend. Makes for great office conversation Monday, "Yep, didn't reach a singlr par 3 Saturday".
  18. To stay focused and relaxed during a round I silently whistle a tune around the course. Lately I'm doing "I Won't Back Down" by Tom Petty.
  19. Not necessarily golf related, but: 1) People who constantly tell you how hard they're working. 2) A waitress who tells you it's her first day.

  21. In the 1990's I lived in Las Vegas and belomnged to Spanish Trail. Among our members then: Andre Agassi, Greg Mattox, Robert Goulet, Smokey Robinson. I once got paired with Joe Pesci who was playing as a guest.
  22. I'm RMD in Smithfield, VA. I played a lot of golf while living in Las Vegas in the 1990's. I gave up the game in 1998. I recently got excited about playing again. Believing that anything worth doing is worth overdoing, I joined a private club before playing a single round. I don't work so I've been playing 3 to 4 tmes a week and carry an index of 15.2. Two weeks ago I played in our club championship as a way to meet other members. I ended up missing my flights low gross by 1 and got low net by 3. Beginners luck. In the bag: New TM Tour Burner Driver, 3, & 5 Old DCI Irons Old Scotty Cameron putter. Need to replace my irons. Been eyeballing Titleist AP-1's. Any input?
