I guess when you think about it, "luck" is just the lower probability outcome of an action. When you swing the club, there are an infinite number of outcomes that could possibly happen, and the lower percentage is bound to happen at some point, just not as often. So when we call things "lucky," whether for good or bad, it's just that lower percent coming up. Now in terms of the categories listed, I would say that to win, you do need some good luck from bad shots because you can't guarantee that you're going to hit perfect shots 100% of the time. So when you do hit those inevitable bad shots, every once in awhile you need the low percentage good result to come out of it.

Stick a fork in Tiger, he's done for the day (barring some miracle and if so, I'll eat my words)

Thanks for the recap, and I know, but basic cable only Still, hoping for a great finish with a bunch of names all fighting to the end.

Ok, so I'm on shot tracker right now...can someone who has the golf channel please explain to me how Wi 3-putter from just over 3-feet (I know he 4-putted but shot tracker said that he hit his first put to within 4 feet)?

So anyone brave enough to make a pick for tomorrow? With how 54 hole leads have held up so far this year (they haven't) and the somewhat inexperience of the top 2, does anyone think that Tiger, Phil, DJ, Paddy, or anyone else has a good shot?
-
Does NBC not have camera's set up in courses besides Pebble? They could at least show a bit of Wi, Dustin, Paddy, etc. I love watching Tiger as much as the next guy but I like at least a little variety besides him and the celebrities.

I voted for Stanley, but after reading the title again, I would say that as a "meltdown" it would have to be Levin. Levin just started leaking oil on the back 9 and it just kept getting worse and worse. However, if you had to choose which loss was worse, I think it's Stanley hands down. If you put me (as a 19 handicap) lying in the center of the fairway lying 2 and give me 5 shots to get in the hole, I could do that 98/100 times (obviously pressure played a role. Worse loss, Stanley. Worse "meltdown," Levin.

Second week in a row that we've seen a 6 shot lead disappear on Sunday. Can someone teach these new guys how to hold a lead? (Kidding) Although I never root for anyone to lose a lead, it is fun to watch close golf on a Sunday.

I just can't decide if this is a good or bad showing for Tiger this week. On one hand, he scrambled extremely well today to grind for an even par round, even though he never seemed to have it. He had no melt down days (not even any above par days). Every day it seemed like some part of his game was completely on fire, and he actually managed two bogey free rounds. However, on the other hand, he just couldn't keep the momentum going on the final day even with a share of the lead, and to me that just seems un-Tiger like. What do you guys think?

I did actually take one thing away from his episode and that was his slight forward press trigger. I tried it out on the course and range and it really does make it a little bit easier to start the swing by not starting from a completely still position. I make sure I'm not exaggerating the press or anything like that and start the swing right after.

All I can say is, Matt Every's footwork is EXACTLY what I'm trying to fix with my own swing. Crazy to see one of my swing flaws on the PGA Tour.

Just signed up and am now part of the Long Island, NY local tour. Really excited for this summer!
-
When I caddied, there were caddies out there who knew next to nothing about golf. They did know, however, how to: fix/fill divots, rake bunkers, tend the flag, what the clubs are, and forecaddy. Otherwise, it's just keep up and shut up. If someone asks you for break or help with a decision, they would just say "sorry, I'm not familiar with the course." Sure they may have sacrificed a bit of tip money, but it's better than giving bad advice and getting no tip.

A tiny bit off topic, but is anyone starting to get really annoyed by that Kenny Perry, Adams Golf 3-wood commercial? I have no problem with Kenny Perry or Adams golf, but that commercial is really starting to bug me.

From what I've been hearing, this book will pertain to Hank and Tiger's work together and nothing else (wish I had a source to cite here but I don't). If that's so then I think it will be a really interesting read to learn more about Tiger's training, private work, etc, rather than all of the tabloid drama. Like others have mentioned though, it is interesting how Tiger did not have Hank sign a non-disclosure clause while most everyone else around him did.

Meanwhile on Long Island, the temperature was also 60* and the local 9-hole courses stayed open and were packed for a great day of golf. Even though I didn't have my clubs and didn't score great, I got to try out a new wedge and completely pure'd it a few times, hit some great shots, and satisfied myself for the next few months

Is Pebble its self worth $495? Probably not. It's a golf course like any other number of great golf courses. Would I spend the money to travel there and play it if I ever get the opportunity? In a heart beat. Like many others here have said, the experiences and memories are priceless. The question is though, "is it worth it?", not "would you do it?"

I do exactly this, I think that I just like to have the alignment because even if it isn't perfect (Like BuckeyeNut said), it's one less thing that I need to think about while I stand over my shot and can focus completely on feel or speed or whatever everyone else is talking about. I guess to each his own though and I was just more concerned about the legality of it since I don't think it's widely used.
-
Now I know most people use the alignment aid on the golfball for putting, but does anyone else use this on the tee box? I've always done this but realized this season that no one else really does. I actually squat down and align the line on the ball to my target on each tee shot. I guess I really have to ask if this is illegal? Thanks for the help.

I received mine a few days ago (I wanna say maybe the 23rd or 24th?). Great read so far!
-
I don't (along with anyone else I'm sure, besides maybe Pete Dye) believe in courses that unfairly punish a perfectly good, or great, shot. If you're a half inch short, then that should be a tap in for par, nothing more.

Has anyone heard anything about it or even better, played in it? I've been searching around their website and it seems like they have a lot of different tournaments in so many regions. However, does anyone know how legit it is? I just feel like with all the different handicap ranges it can turn into one big outing. Opinions from anyone would be greatly appreciated.
