My first Scotty Cameron, could it be?
toogood replied to Ben's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
This will be my next putter most likely. When our rep brought the sample to show, that was the one that I picked out as being the best of the bunch. Do you have an exclusive contract with Callaway? What level staff are you with them? -
It got up to about 85 here today. If this is Global Warming, then sign me up!

Zen Golf is a great book, so is The 15th Club by Bob Rotella. If you think about your situation on the course, where one bad shot or a bad hole ruins your round. So you hit a bad shot, then what? What does that have to do with your next shot? Can you do anything about the previous bad shot/hole? Think about it this way, the only thing you have absolute control of is your reaction to the shot that you hit, and the shot that you're about to hit. That's it. Wasting energy thinking about the shot you messed up, or the last hole is just that. A waste. They don't serve you in the present moment for the shot you're hitting.

You could try a synthetic glove like FootJoy WeatherSof. Synthetics tend to last a little longer than leathers due to the material. Leather gloves will always wear faster than others. The advantage of leather however is the soft feel and touch you get from them, versus the relative lack of feel from a synthetic. I use Titleist Players, or Players Tech gloves, and I love the feel they give me.

Can I select multiple choices? I have 4 pairs of Adidas, 2-3 pairs of Nike, a pair of Callaway, and like 8-9 pairs of FootJoy. I have a pretty standard size/shaped foot, so I'm fortunate that I can wear pretty much any brand/style without an issue. So I basically get shoes that I like the look of, rather than trying to get ones that feel good.

You know, I was thinking about this. 99% of golfers natural swing does not produce at straight ball. And yet, so many golfers try to hit the ball straight instead of working with what they've got that day. I've begun to play a bit of a draw, which I find I have more control over.

Usually I play golf. Over the past few winters I've let the "rain" keep me from playing, but this year I plan to actually wear one of my rainsuits and play some golf.

I wouldn't expect anything. I'd go out there and play golf for what it is. A game.

Do you ever wear a red shirt and black pants to play?
toogood replied to titaniummd's topic in Golf Talk
I wore black pants with a red shirt today. While Tiger wears that on Sundays, I didn't know he was the only one allowed to wear it? Either that or I didn't get the memo that you needed a certain handicap in order to wear that color combination. -
Can't say it's affected my golfing at all. Being in the business at an established private club makes that pretty easy.

What blades/shaft combo would you purchase???
toogood replied to Batmanrb89's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I've got a set of CG1 black pearls w/ S300's in the trunk of my car that I'm not using. haha. I'm happy with my AP2's, but I'm thinking I might reshaft them with a higher kicking shaft. -
We has the Ping Fitting Van come out to the club today, and they had their Trackman Doppler Launch Monitor. I took the opportunity to take my driver out and put it on the monitor. The first couple with my 907D2, had a launch angle of between 12.5* - 13.9*, so not bad at all. The spinrate however was WAY too high. The first 3 had spinrates over 4100 rpm. Ideal spin rate is between 2300-2800 rpm. Carry distance ranged from 254 to 278. Ball speed was about 150-155 mph. I then tried the new Rapture V2 9* with their stock X-Stiff shaft (which is a very good shaft) That immediately dropped the spin rate down to about 2900rpm, which gave me a carry distance average of 278-288 yards, and a max ball speed of 166 mph. The swing speed worked out to be an average of 111 mph. I think I could improve that a bit by getting my body in a bit better alignment with itself.

Not much difference from what it takes to play on the PGA Tour, there isn't a big difference between the players on the Nationwide and the PGA as far as skill. So I'd say still mid to low 60's to be really competitive.

And I respectfully disagree. I don't think people should be entitled to play anywhere, just because. If a group of people want to create a private club that is just for members and their guests I see nothing wrong with that. They have every right to allow who they want, when they want. Just because other people want to play it, doesn't mean they should be allowed to. That's life, it's not fair sometimes, we deal with it.

I'd say much lower. I've played with some very good scratch golfers, guys who've turned pro and tried to get their Tour Card, guys who at our course shoot 4-5 under. They go out and try to get their card and don't even come close. Even the worst guy on the PGA Tour is extremely good. Think about it, even JL Lewis is still right about the 258th best player in the WORLD. Think about being in the top 250 in anything in the world. That's pretty good.

I've played Pebble Beach (granted I was 11, so I don't think it counts.) I'm working on getting on at Cypress Point and the San Francisco Club. I know members at each, but even then it's tough. Some great courses on there indeed.

You're telling me. For example, I'm playing 3 full rounds this week which equals my full round total for the last 2 months. I'm lucky to get 9 holes in a week. I'm working on convincing the board at our club to let the pros go out and play with members on the clock, which would help big time!

I'm an assistant pro, and merchandiser. We do a lot of business with the Acushnet Company (Titleist, Cobra, FootJoy) I used to be at about a 2 handicap wise, but there's a reason why there's the saying in the golf business - "If you want to play golf, don't get in the golf business." When I'm at work 5-6 days a week, with a new wife at home and a baby on the way, sometimes I just don't want to play golf. Thus, my game has suffered over the past year and a half or so. LOL Such is life though.

I play what I play because I'm on staff with Titleist. That and I think it's some of the best stuff on the market today. With the new lines coming out I'll be swapping the 3 wood and most likely the hybrid over to Titleist as well.

There sure are a lot of golf guru's in this thread. I wonder why more of you aren't professionals yourselves, or at least coaches to tour pros. It's amazing the knowledge you all have on the inner workings of the tour and it's players.

Yeah, it's a good course. I've played it a few times. The current First Assistant there is my former boss at my current club. So I know the guys that work there pretty well. It should be fun.

Well, let's put it this way. The course won. I shot an 86, and didn't lose one ball, or have any penalty strokes. It was quite the challenge. This was the first time I'd played the course so I can't compare it to the previous course, but based on this course. I loved it. The redesign was intended to bring the course back to it's old school roots, and they definitely achieved that. There were four sets of tees, and we played the tips, which they called the 'Venturi Tees' 7219 was the distance and it played every bit of it. To start the head pro tells us that carts aren't allowed on the first 5 holes so we have to walk, no big deal. Then he tells us that there are no yardages marked anywhere on the course. Now that was a challenge. I'm used to at least having a 150 yard marker to gauge myself on. Try playing a course with no yardages whatsoever apart from the tees. It's a major test of your game, figuring out yardages based solely on feel and judging with your eyes. The course was redesigned with the feel that it was just naturally there with no 'work' to it. I think they achieved it. There are 185 bunkers on the course and all of them felt like they could have been naturally occuring. They all 'fit' their location on the course, and had very much an old course feel. Jagged edges, long grass, no yardages, no hole signs, very subtle tee markers. Very minimalist. So although I got my game handed back to me on a platter, I had a great time and enjoyed myself a lot. I'm expecting an improvement tomorrow when I play Silver Creek Valley Country Club tomorrow ( http://www.scvcc.com/ ) so I expect things to be much better.

So our course is closed this week for aerification, so a couple of our assistants and our director of instruction are going up to play the California Golf Club in San Francisco today. I'm really excited as they just re-opened after an almost 2 year closing of rebuilding the entire course to take it back to it's original design from 1918. It's not the longest course you'll play but it has ~185 bunkers to contend with. It should be fun.
