  1. He is not knowledgeable. He is a little too sharp on his criticisms of teams in baseball and football. If he knows anything about sports..it is not visibly apparent to me. He just rubs me the wrong way! It seems as if while he is sitting in the booth with the jocks..he is the nerd that sits in on a conversation and offers quips of his own that are so far out there that everyone just sits there, listens and shakes their heads.
  2. I agree!! I had the same hand pains. I was going to attribute it to me just getting older...but...it was that the grips were too small. As the above poster said...the grip size can affect your ball flight pattern because of changes in the grip, but I know one thing...the pain that I and apparently you are experiencing was enough for me to change the grips to a midsized Golf Pride velvet and I am extremely happy with the comfort and performance. Your grip will be lighter because you won't have to put the death grip on it to swing the club...therefore..should be better shot. Like previously mentioned..if you want to take a couple clubs and re-grip them and try them out..do so and you'll be glad you did. I just went ahead and re-gripped them and I'm thrilled with the change.
  3. Now THAT was uncalled for. Many men are performance driven and when they cannot do well at something they put their heart and soul into..it frustrates them. Trying to compare it to spousal abuse is frankly...moronic. I get frustrated at the game and have pounded my club into the ground in disgust with myself..but I have never considered beating up or injuring my spouse or anyone for that matter. That was a really bad..bad analogy that you put forth. Really bad!
  4. OUCH!! She IS cute!! Actually...she is gorgeous!!
  5. Boy!! You had a lot of first cars!! You can see when it was you got older...got married and had kids...with the Sienna! Just a guess though.
  6. My little 2 cents is that when paused at the moment of impact your hips are totally square to the ball. They have not cleared a bit. In my estimation, there is a lot of power being lost here. In my studies...I see most golfers have started clearing their hips at the moment of impact. Clearing your hips also helps propel the ball at a lower launch angle..and actually you let the loft of the club do the work. It appears that you are helping the ball to launch higher by the way you stand up in the followthru.
  7. 1966 Pontiac Lemans in white w/ black vinyl top, black bucket seats w/ console and a 326CI V-8. Bought it from a little ol' lady in 1970. 1973 AMC Javelin AMX in 1975 while in college. 401CI cowl induction monster engine in maxi-blue. What a cruiser!! Hot car!
  8. Yep...it's tough going here in Florida in the winter. The grass turns a little brown and believe it or not...there are times that it gets down in the 30's. Mostly however...a long sleeve shirt and a sweater will suffice...while the palm trees gently sway in the background with the waves lapping up on the shore making a peaceful calming tone are the horrible things that us Floridians have to deal with. Gee...I wish I was up north trapped in my home with 10' of snow at the door. Oh well...guess I'll go hit a round while it's still warm. Those 70 degree days are tough on us as golfers.
  9. I agree whole heartedly! This game is frustrating enough for many...me and even the scratch golfers. If you have the cash and wish to stock up on good reputable equipment, then at least you have only one thing to blame if you play poorly. YOURSELF!! It's called process of elimination.
  10. I didn't lose a friend..he is my Son...and I really don't think the club throwing is funny at all. HE was funny. I have warned him about club throwing. I really don't mind a vile temper at times cuz' I know just how frustrating golf can be and I've seen it so many times on the course. However....with that said...it crosses over from verbal to physical..there could be problems. He is young and learning...he will catch on. It's one thing for Dad to say it, but when it's from his friends, he make stand up and take notice.
  11. Just back the cart up over his ball and peel out! Makes it kinda hard to find and sure is hard to hit!
  12. My Son just turned 26 and has been playing golf now for about 1 1/2 years. He has the Pings, the Taylor made woods...good quality putter...the best balls...on and on! I had played several years ago and got back into it because it was a great thing for my kid and I to do together. We have been having a great time. I think when we first started going out to the course, he had images of whooping my butt in a round. Well...that did not happen. Four weeks later..it still has not happened and the spread is getting larger cuz' I'm getting more consistent. I picked up right where I left off over 10 years ago and have been playing fairly well considering all things. Now...we all get frustrated when we play a bad hole or make a stupid shot that we knew better before we even teed up the ball. I have said my share of choice words and have acted like someone that my wife would not know if she saw me on the course. However...I blow it off pretty quick. I have never seen anyone...ever...throw their club in anger..or snap one in two. I have tossed mine about 7-8 feet in disgust...but never have I thrown it the length of a football field or worse yet..into a lake! This weekend...my son started off the first hole with a drive that was right down the middle of a heavily wooded, narrow fairway. I sliced off into the woods and expected it to be one of those days. Took my stroke and plopped one on the green, putted and took my bogie. He ended up with a double bogie, mainly by just inconsistent greens play. It happens...oh well...there are 17 more holes. He was ahead of me after 5 holes by a stroke. This is when the wheels fell off his wagon. He started shanking, slicing, duck-hooking, hitting fat shots, hitting thin shots...three putting...you name it...he did it. I kinda felt bad for him, cuz' I know just how it feels. About the 12th hole...he had enough! He sliced the third ball into the lake and then spun around with a Ping iron and threw it towards the lake and walked away. I could not believe my eyes as I saw this expensive club going end over end splashing into it's watery grave. I walked over to the lake and looked in and saw a club about 20 feet into the lake with the butt end of the club sticking out of the water about two inches. He was lucky that the club landed the way it did or he would never had found it. He field stripped and wades into the water and got his club. The only thing I could do is laugh...just a little at first and then it kinda got hysterical. Finally he started to laugh about the stupid move he had made and I figured it was all over. NOPE...it got worse. The poor kid lost about 18 balls. He was livid. I guess it was the wrong time to ask him where he wanted to play golf next Saturday. Timing is everything! He said he was going to take lessons before he hit a golf course again. I was looking at Youtube last night and was amazed just how many videos there were on "Angry golfers". Throwing clubs, snapping them. hitting trees..and on and on. Don't get me wrong...I get pissed off at my game and let out a myriad of choice words..but something always prevented me from throwing clubs. The funny part is that you're left standing there not exactly knowing what to say...except to start laughing under your breath. That quickly turns into hysteria which doesn't help the situation at times. Trust me...i know!
  13. I have Cleveland 588 forged that works real well...and never leaves me stranded. I also have an Alien wedge that is about 13 years old that is great but everyone makes fun of it so I bought the Cleveland.
  14. Fuzzy and King Jack! Fuzzy looks like a blast...and I'd pick Jacks brain about everything!
  15. I was looking at tha tonight on the web. The one I got was a little beat up so I was looking for one that may be in better shape. Has it changed much being made by McGregor? Pretty inexpensive at $50. Feel like I've struck gold though!
  16. I just got back into golf after many years of being out of it. Actually...almost 10 years!! OUCH! When I got back in...I tried to purchase some decent equipment that would not disappoint me in performance. That way I could not make any excuses. (well...I could..but it would be difficult) While I was at Golfsmith..looking at a putter, I was gently coerced into buying a Ping Redwood Anser putter to replace my old Ping Pal 6. Yep...this was going to be the MacDaddy putter that would enable me to drain a putt from 60 feet away. Well....I hate it! I push everything right and just do NOT feel comfortable with the darn thing! I was at a guys shop the other fay that I do a lot of business with, and he had a line-up of old clubs laying up against the wall. Putters, wedges and irons. He is about 65 + in years, so this was quite a collection. I was looking and playing around with them and he said.."If you find one you like go ahead and take it!" I hate taking things for free..but I obliged him in this case cuz' I figured I was desperate to find a putter that I felt good about. Well anyway...I took the putter tonight and played a round at a short municipal course. This darn putter was the most accurate thing I have ever felt or used in a putter!! I was draining 15 foot putts and even one from 30 plus out off the fringe. May have just been a good day...but I am attributing it to this putter! It is a old Cobra Bobby Grace mallet putter. "Fat Lady Swings!" What a deal! FREE!!! Therefore..the quote..."Some of the best things in this world are free!" holds true this day!! I still feel abused by knowing I spent $250 on a Redwood Ping! Actually, I feel kinda stupid!
  17. 1. Check your grip. Is your left hand in a weak position or is it in a strong position? I strengthened my left hand grip up about an inch and it helped drastically. Look for two to three knuckles visible at address. The "V" formed at the thumb and forefinger should point to the right side of your face or shoulder. I hit my irons well...but same as you...the driver suffered. 2. Are your grips the right size? That can also promote a slice if they are too big. 3. The driver is taken back in a sweeping motion versus the more upright plane that you would use in an iron. Place the ball just to the left of your left instep at address. That would allow the driver (assuming it's an oversized head) to make contact on the up slope of your swing...also helping to eliminate your slice. Good luck and I hope e that one of the above helps you have a better day! I had a huge problem with my slice until I tried the above three items. It always seems to be the obvious things that we miss.
  18. Check out Kodak's line of all-in-ones. I replaced my HP with a Kodak and I'm impressed with text quality as well as photo quality. The color is not as vivid as HP's inks, but only on a side by side comparison. If you didn't have a comparison, you'd think the print was perfect. The inks are considerably less expensive.
  19. I was playing with a group of friends about ten years ago, and after we had all hit our tee shots, one of the guys had set up and hit his 2nd shot. I drove my cart past him...said "Nice shot" (even though it was sarcastic since it went about 50 yards...we always joked and ribbed one another), and stopped about 25 yards past them to hit my 2nd shot. I got out of the cart...picked my club...starting to visualize the shot when almost simultaneously, I heard "FORE" and within a nano second a ball nailed me in the back of the heel. I dropped to the ground in excruciating pain for a good 15 minutes. He had hit a ground burner that thank God was extremely low. I would hate to think what would have happened if it was hit about 6 feet higher. I'd be dead. His reply was that he didn't see me. (even through the entire set-up process) I NEVER played golf with that idiot again. Even my friends that day never invited him back. The game is supposed to be fun...not life threatening.
  20. Don't forget that you swing the hybrids the same way that you would an iron. I know when I first picked up a hybrid, I wanted to swing it like a wood. You don't sweep with a hybrid. Once I got that down, the hybrid is my go to club for the long fairway shots.
  21. I see the ball...I don't focus on any one part of it. If I stared at it...most likely it would be at the writing on the top that I have pre-aligned with my target.
  22. I hit a 3 iron pretty solid but I blindly bought a Taylor Made 3 hybrid burner...and I knock the snot out of it...straight! Feels good. I got the steel shaft however. They were on sale at Golfsmith in Clearwater for $129. I didn't want the graphite shafts. Never had much luck with control with graphite.
  23. It's tough being here in the winter with the palm trees swaying and the gulf waters lapping up on the shore...with the warm Florida sun gently frying you year round. I hear the same comments on the Harley Davidson forum. Poor guys have to store their bikes for the winter. I have to wear a sweat shirt. Ya know...in my whole life...I have been in snow once. I have seen it twice. I prefer southern California and Florida sands and beaches.
  24. That's nasty...but I feel a little queezy myself!
  25. My son has a tad bit of a temper when he does poorly. He threw his pitching wedge a good 40 yards towards the cart. It hit the cart and went another 10 yards. Something about throwing a club that i just spent the motherload on taking the chance that it snaps in two. I have however hit my club on the ground in anger. It really stinks when you do that after a rainy day. Mud comes flying up all over you irritating you more than you originally were. It's just not worth it. Mam o' Man..I love golf.
