Slow Golfer....how do ask them to speed up....
telrod11 replied to juanrjackson's topic in Golf Talk
Well, what I usually do is start blaming myself, and imply that "I" am the slow one. Sometimes they will see through what I am trying to do, but a lot of times they will actually realize that we are slowing things down. I feel your pain though; I can't stand to be the hold up. I hate to wait too, but I'd rather wait than be the "wait".... -
I guess I might ask how long have you been playing? reason I ask, is when I started,I had a true baseball swing, and i would lunge into the driver and could literally kill it. My buddies helped me get over that swing, because even though it was long and really straight, the swing was killing me with every other club in the bag. I had to learn to hit the golf ball with the same swing with all my clubs. I don't know if this is really your problem, but if you hit your driver 280, you certainly should be longer with your other clubs. e.g., I'm probably 240 on a good drive, 220 with my 3 wood, 200 with my 5 wood, and 150 with my 7 iron. I would think that most folks would have similar "gaps" between their clubs, even if they are longer (or shorter) than mine.... JMHO

Tobacco Road - NC - Heat of summer 107 degrees Gold Creek - GA - January 30 degrees and it sleeted on us before we finished Those are my two worst extremes....

You may be right. I personally haven't heard it unless it was associated with par. Anyone have a definitive on this?
-
This is from About.com: Up and Down By Brent Kelley, About.com GolfDefinition: To get the ball into the hole in two strokes when starting from off the green or in a greenside hazard. Say your second shot on a par-4 is just short of the green. If you make par , you've made an up-and-down. Think of it this way: the first stroke was up onto the green; the second stroke was down into the cup. Also Known As: Make and up-and-down, get up and down

Played six of those, and you are going to have a blast!!

I'm going to have to vote that it means par also..... I'v enever heard anyone get a "good up and down", without actually getting par.... JMHO.....

I'm on my third set in 17 years, but have decided that woods / drivers change much more significantly that the iron technology, so I'll keep this set I have now (and have had for a couple of years) for at least 8 - 10....

I see several posters bashing you here, but I'll stand with you and take the heat also, because we sometimes (not always, but especially in the fall with leaves, etc) do the exact same thing. Is it right, no - agreed, but here's my reasoning: If we know there is no way the ball should be lost..... The pro's have spotters and people to hit with their errant shots, so they will rarely lose a ball. We judge it the same way - if we had folks up the course watching the ball, would there be a reasonable chance the ball would have been found. If yes, then we drop, and don't take the penalty... Do you guys stay so close to the actual rules that this wouldn't make sense to you? I'd be interested to hear the counter arguments on this....

And as someone who has *never* bought a golf ball in 16 yrs of playing, I would like to personally thank you!

Forget being like Mike, I want to be Sabram!!!! Nice courses!!

Oh, I love to help "encourage" the use of a club! Especially if we are playing for money, and the guy is hitting driver when I'm hitting 5 wood!

I'm not a resident, I just travel down there on business regularly, so someone can give you some places better than this but: There is a Golfsmith near the Millenia Mall (near Universal), and it has a huge selection (like they all do...) Within 3-4 miles, is an Edwin Watts "Outlet", but they don't have nearly the selection the GS does.....

Is it possible to get to get golf advice overload?
telrod11 replied to Wisconsin Golfer's topic in Golf Talk
Yes, I'd say you can certainly overload.... I heard rumor the Peter Kessler (former golf channel personality) had a single digit handicap when he started with the GC, and doubled it by the time he was through.... I wouldn't doubt it listening to al teh different swing theories, night after night.... Anyone verify this, or dispel it as a rumor? -
The tree one reminded me of these: Go Tree Monkey, throw it out.... Or, if it doesn't come out - You have to pay those tree monkeys...

So...... How'd you do? BTW, where did you play? Up near Dalton?

This may sound stupid, but quit trying to make putts.... What I mean is this; If you are 20 ft away, try to putt to a hole that is three ft wide. Ssometimes you try so hard to hit the putt, you leave yourself an impossible putt back. Also, sometimes when I practice, I'll look at the hole instead of teh ball; This helps me with pace. Don't know exactly where you're missing, but short or long, thia may help.

How High (or low) do you tee it up with your driver?
telrod11 replied to Certifi_able's topic in Golf Talk
Well, I have always heard the same, tee it high and let it fly, but we were at East Lake for the TC, and on 9, the 600 yd downhill par 5, we could get right behind the tee boxes, within 10 yds. We watched about ten groups go through, and all but a couple of the pro's tee'd teh ball really low. My buddy, who is a pretty good golfer, said that they tee it lower for accuracy. Since seeing this, I have bee teeing my driver much lower, with much better results, so I'd say I'm a low tee'er.... -
As the day gets shorter and shorter, and DST is soon to end.......... (BTW, why the heck don't we split the difference to 30 minutes, and leave all the clocks alone??) What's the most holes you have ever played in a day? For me: Walking - 40 Riding - 60 Yes, doctor, I have an addiction....
