I agree it was a fiasco, but when they explained that #1 rule on the rule sheet given to the players was about the sand traps, the number of them, the fact that they would be both inside and outside the ropes and may have foot prints and tire prints in them and they were still to be considered sand traps with all rules pertaining, it was posted on the course and in the club house,.. let them off the hook. so, DJ and his caddie and messed that up,... DJ himself confused me,... even though I give him major props for speaking to the tv reporter, but he said, I never once thought I was in a bunker,... then he said maybe I should have read the rules more carefully,... so even if he had read the rules, if he didn't think he was in a bunker the rules on how to play out of a bunker wouldn't come into play (so to speak) but, I also agree, bunkers should never be allowed to occupied by spectators,... in a major no less.

what about Hockey,...? Soccer,... Rugby,... and the like,...? I consider something a sport when you can play a physical game (so chess is out) against someone or another team and use some kind of defense against them,... (that makes tennis a sport to me) in games like golf and bowling there is no defense so even though it's physical it's a game to me,... But I love playing GOLF more than anything,... scuba

my buddy hit a drive that did something funny about 100 yards off the tee, but it kept going... when they got up there near the spot they found a headless Cardinal (bird) they found the head about 20 ft in front, and the ball was way down the fairway,... a dead Cardinal, and we live in St. Louis, is this a bad omen...?

no disrespect intended, but I've never heard anyone refer to golf and how much they are playing in terms of hours as you do quite frequently,... do you mean practice time on the range or do you have a schedule that cause's you to only have 4 hours at a time that you can play,...? good luck to you regardless

I'm just curious how you got into the game,... How'd you learn and all that. It seems to me that's how the difference comes in how we learned to play it, or not play it correctly. My friends and I did not grow up at country clubs,... we didn't play it as a team sport in school, we learned to hit balls at a driving range and then putt balls at a putt-putt course (as we called it) then one day when we started driving cars (a long time a go) we saw a public golf course, so I borrowed my uncle's clubs and we went and hit the course, not knowing anything about the rules other than try to count how many times you hit the darn thing before it goes into the hole, we realized it was much easier to hit if it was sitting up on some nice grass rather than laying down on some hard pan dirt or if it was buried in the deep grass so we always bumped it, fluffed it or what ever you call it,... it wasn't till a few years went by that we started learning some rules. But playing it down was a long way off,... first we started learning how to play OB and the red and yellow stakes, lost ball was and still is very difficult to paly correctly on public courses,... because sometimes you don't know it's lost till you get up there and going back to the tee on a grounded course doesn't always sit well with those behind you and hitting a provisional on every shot you don't see sitting up after your tee shot is also time consuming. Thats where my delima is,.... my friends don't want to move away from the comfort of bumping the ball all the time and I do,... I do play lost ball correctly now, but it never fails, I'll bomb one into the real high grass and I know it's lost so i play one from the tee and oen of my buddies will hit one off the fairway and we get up there and can't find it and they drop and take the distance and I get screwed,... scuba

Guys,... I've been gone for a while after serving some well desreved penalty time, I'm back trying to work my way back into the good graces of this site. Here are some funny golf quotes I thought of while I read all of your great additions to this funny thread,... I think we should list our favorite funny lines used on the course during play,... If you add, copy and past the whole list with your at the end to make it easier to read. 1, I think you're standing to close to the ball,.......... after it's been hit. (after someone nubs one off the tee) 2,

I think it's a big bite to try to chew,... you may burn yourself out trying to hard,.... I'd just try to enjoy the game and not get so wrapped up in this goal that's sems like mission impossible,..... but good luck,...

After a shank, I can throw my 6 iron like a javolin,... but my other irons flutter like a wounded duck,... is it just the confidence I have in tossing that club like Bruce Jenner that allows me to do it everytime,... ? or maybe since I know I'm not hurling the other clubs well that I'm just not committed to the throw,...

If you are playing the ball up and able to improve your lie are you then able to fluff it to a worse lie,...? like taking it from a tight lie in a faiway a few inches over to light rough where you can get the club under the ball real easy,...?

I shot 51 38 once,... worst to first in the group,... last year during a horrible round I got an ace on a great shot,.... then I jack 2 OB on the next hole and 3 putted for a 9,.... score card said 1 9 (I didn't frame it) I had a 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,... all on the same score card, for 18 holes,... crazy game,...

I stand corrected,... I can admit when I'm wrong,... Some can't,... this was all I could find,... (although I didn't go through the rule book) relief a rules term meaning "to pick up the ball and move it away from" some condition, obstacle, etc. Example: The rules of golf allow relief without penalty in many situations (e.g., from cart paths, ground under repair, etc.).

I think that's a penalty,... but not sure of how it's handled,... someone on here will give you a real good answer in about 2 minutes though,...

there was bridge in my backswing, my club would hit the rail on my backswing,... my ball was outside the hazard, the biridge was inside the hazard,... do I get relief,... and a free drop 1 club leghth,..? or do I have to take a stroke and get to move it 2 club lengths,...? either way, can I move straight back on a line from the pin,...? or stay within the club lengths? scuba

point is,... Mizzou was # 1 but we had one more game to play,... the big 12 championship, a tough game against OU,... we lost and then OSU moved ahead of us while they sat on their ass's,...??? I don't get it,... Mizzou lost 2 times last year both to top 10 teams,... LSU lost to unrated teams (I think) I know they weren't in the top 10,... Arkansas and Kentucky I think,... kentucky may have been # 17 but LSU was like #2 then. Kansas got a beter Bowl game than Mizzou, yet we beat them heads up. That whole sytem is flawed,...

I think those guys need to learn to control their emotions a bit after the high points,... get pumped, show a litttle emotion,... but then cool it and settle down, 30- 40 seconds of high energy yelling and screaming and fist pumping and crowd waving seemed a bit much and may have shown on 18 for Hunter,... Kim and Phil were celebrating a bit early yesterday too,... Phil has really disapointed me since Tiger went down,... But over all,... great matches and golf,...

I'm sorry, but isn't this a discussion board,... I ask you, what does take "relief" mean,...? I don't know for sure but I think in golf terminology "relief" means a free drop, that's why I said what I did and with no personal attack attached, he's on my thread, his prophile boasts his .09 handicap and then he's talking about taking free drops,... no wonder he's a .09
