  1. Thats weird, when I was trying out wedges the other day I liked the SV tour because it was super heavy compared to every other wedge in the store. You shouldn't have got it with the hickory shaft dude.
  2. Unlimited clubs you say? My bag would look something like this: 47 inch 6* driver 44.5 inch 9.5* driver 3 and 5 woods 2-pw 50,52,54,56,58,60,62, and 64* wedges putter Clock system with all them wedges would cover almost every yardage imaginable. It would be a numbers game. No more would I have to deal with that stupid thing called "feel".
  3. haha so true. MiniMoe is obviously a little bit sour about the fact that people with higher handicaps than him hit it farther than he does, and therefore has to try and knock them down a peg by saying how he could whoop them so bad on the course. Super.
  4. I probably hit 100 drives at golftown yesterday and my average was between 115 and 120. Funny story, the fastest I've ever recorded was 139. Loosest swing of my life; it felt like I was Freddy Couples. The bastard carried 350. Too bad I've never been able to replicate anything close to that.
  5. I think ideal is a mid to low ball flight with the short irons and high ball flight with the long irons. I find that the harder I hit a club the higher it goes and the more distance I get, and the more controlled I hit a club the lower it goes and the more accurate I am.
  6. you really can't go wrong with the nike sv tour wedges. good price and IMO one of the best wedges on the market. soft feel and lots of spin. the 3-wood I have (burner t3 14.5*) is a good choice too. It sets up fairly open and has a lot of heel and toe relief, if you're into that. A great 3 wood for the lower handicapper.
  7. I think it was the voodoo. It was a stiff flex and a heavier shaft (I think 70 or 75 grams), which probably had a lot to do with how much I liked the club.
  8. Seeing as my driver is old and brutal compared to most on the market, I'm in the market for a new one. I went to golf town yesterday and went on a marathon, hitting 30 or so shots with each of the following: cobra speed pro D, L5V, r7 limited, callaway hyper x tour, 909 D2, and 909 D3. Needless to say, I worked up one hell of a sweat. Onto my point: all of these drivers were good, but had flaws (some set up a little too closed, sound off, aren't balanced to my liking, feel tinny, etc.). That is except the 909 D3. My god is that thing like heaven on a stick. Sounds great, sets up more open than the rest, feels great, is well-balanced; I can't say enough about it. This thing is definitely making it's way into my bag in the near future. Anyone else like this thing as much as I did?
  9. 1. Get my swing speed into the 130's. 2. Get my handicap down to scratch or better.
  10. That was good, but you forgot to hold up a wheel of cheese.
  11. For me it was the year that should have been... I planned on practising a ton and dropping my handicap a lot, but ended up just golfing with buddies and getting drunk a lot. That said, it was still a year of improvement. I dropped my handicap from a 10 to a 2 with relatively little practise. I attribute this to a change in irons; last year I had big bertha x-12's, this year 704 cb's. My swing really didn't change, but the irons improved my ball striking just because the smaller club head fit my eye. Biggest accomplishment for me this year was gaining 20 yards off the tee and 30-40 yards on my irons. Again, this didn't come from work; it came from me filling out and gaining strength. This year's gonna be different though (at least this is what I tell myself). I'm really gonna work on strength and flexibility throughout the winter, and I'm gonna work relentlessly on my short game in 09. I figure I can get to a +2 or +3 if I really push myself.
  12. Thank god David and Sally are gone. I liked Sally but was fed up with watching that David goof. And did anyone else notice the nice camera work on Amber? Also, Camila is just too cute. Loved her reactions in the drive and approach challenge. I'm rootin for her and Hugo to win it all.
  13. if it was me i'd take my 200 club and swing harder than normal. For me the harder I swing the higher the ball goes. You could also play a cut shot that will land softer.
  14. 4, 5, and 6 at my home course are make or break holes. 4 is a 195 yard par 3 where you have to work the ball left to right or keep it straight. Anything right of the green hits a slope and kicks into the bush. 5 is a 410 par 4 with a 90 degree dogleg right about 230 yards out. This hole's tough because to hit driver I have to cut the corner, and that's about a 290 carry; if I pull it off I'll birdie most of the time, but If I don't I'm in the bush. The iron off the tee is tough because it can leave you with 210 into the green if you're anywhere left of center. 6 is a 360 par 4. It is another 90 degree dogleg, but left. The green is drivable, but there is a lot of bush around it and 2 out of 3 times you'll be hitting 3 off the tee if you go for it. The lay up is tough because if you hit it right it is a minimum 200 yard approach. However, if you go left you're going over water onto a ridiculous side-hill lie. This hole can be the easiest or the hardest on the course depending on where your tee ball ends up.
  15. My iron and driver swings are actually a lot different. With my driver I focus on taking the club back low and extending as much as possible and therefore my arc is a lot bigger than with my irons. My iron swing is much shorter for accuracy and my lower body is way more quiet- with my irons at impact both feet are flat on the ground, but my left heel is off the ground at impact with my driver.
  16. white hot xg. softest putters i've hit
  17. 66 on my home course (par 72).
  18. My home course is a 9 holer, and 23 would be my score. I've eagled both par 5s and two par 4s (one is drivable and I holed one out from 120 on the other). This is more of a numbers game than anything; I play a good 200 9 hole rounds a year.
  19. How the wind affects the distance of the course is a big factor where I live. A super nice course in the area plays 7300 from the tips, but all the long holes are usually down wind, making it seem shorter. However, another course I've played is 6800 with the longer holes up wind, and it seems to play longer than the other course (a tight 600 yrd par 5 into a 40 mph wind is NOT fun). To answer your question, anything that plays over 7000 is fairly long I think.
  20. It's funny, I don't consider myself a long driver, my average would be in the 290-300 range, namely because with I play with so many guys that are longer than me. I played a round with a buddy this year who averages 320-330 and told him to swing as hard as he could. Sure enough he caught it, and carried it 370 uphill into the wind with a fade. Most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. THAT is what I consider long. However, I do consider myself a really long iron player, namely because I deloft my irons so much at impact. I hold the lag forever and trap the hell out of the ball, and carry my 7 195 average. If I swing out of my boots and catch it I can carry my 7 in the 225 range.
  21. Not this week, but in my last round of the year. Probably a month ago (it gets cold in these parts haha). On a 555 yard par 5 I hit my drive to 135 yards out. I did have a 7 club wind at my back, but hey, longest drive of my life by far. Also, because of that 7 club wind my round was HORRIBLE. I'm talking the kind of round that makes you want to quit golf forever. If I broke 100 I was lucky (I quit keeping score out of frustration), and I almost always break 80. However, I salvaged all those bad feelings on the final hole, a par 5. I was in thick rough surrounding a greenside bunker on my second shot. Not much green to work with. I grabbed my 64* wedge, opened the face and swung as hard as i could under it. Massive flop shot, went about 40 feet in the air, landed just in front of the pin and one-hopped in for eagle. Nice way to end off the season.
  22. Camilo by far. I really like Tiger and Sergio too though.
  23. I actually carry a srixon wedge. It sets up super clean at address and is forged, so feels great. It has a smaller head than most wedges I see, which really fits my eye. Certainly doesn't spin as much as other wedges in my bag, but its an older model. I'm not familiar with the newer srixon wedges, but if they're anything like mine, they're a solid product. Biggest selling point for me is the way the wedge looks at address.
  24. This guy nailed it. One thing that's super good for swing speed, as i think it builds fast twitch muscle, is isometrics. Bruce Lee was a big proponent of them and he was the fastest dude around.
  25. Pretty self explanatory. Launch monitors tell me I launch it around 8-10 degrees most of the time, with around 3500 spin rate. I suppose this makes sense, as my typical drive starts low and rises, landing pretty soft. I've been told with a higher launch and lower spin I could get more distance. Two things: 1. What are "ideal" launch conditions to maximize distance? 2. Should a guy tweak his equipment or his swing to try to achieve these conditions?
