searching course for lost balls
Beantown Beancounter replied to motteler621's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
yeah my father-in-law lives on the 15th at our local course, and he is a scavenger. It is amazing how some people don't even put in the effort to look for their errant shot in the woods/brush. I will never have to buy a golf ball ever again, and have the luxury of playing premium golf balls for quite some time for free... -

so how do we go about gaming one?
-
for me it is the complete opposite...I hit the driver dead straight or with a nice 5 yard fade, but with the hybrid and any other wood off the tee it is slice city. I played nine a few days ago and ended up driving a 245 yard par 4. I pulled it off, landing just off the green, but then chipped and three putted :o( I say stick with the hybrid until you are able to work the woods out on the range.

Ok so I would like to think that this has been encountered in some of your careers as you have evolved as a golfer over the years. I am recently experiencing an issue with my irons, and am starting to think that my game is not yet ready to tackle the challenge of playing with the player's irons that I have (cobra pro cb's). I had considered myself a decent ball striker, but lo and behold, my old GI irons were just masking the fact that I still have some swing flaws. With that being said, anyone else experience the same issue? If so did you continue to struggle with your irons and work it out through the no pain no gain mantra? Or did you revert back to a more forgiving set to lessen the blow that was being dealt to your game, or lack thereof? I am starting to consider the latter to salvage the remainder of the season with baby no. 2 due any day now and the New England winter approaching (mind you I will play up through December until the courses are closed). Also, I traded-in my old set, so if I made a switch I would be getting a new set (main reason for the post). Any thoughts? Thanks folks...

have covers for transportation purposes like noted above. I will take them off once on the course, as I am too lazy to take them on and off during a round. Also I would probably lose them if I had them on on the course. Usually every 2 rounds I drop a headcover and have to go back a re-trace my steps to find it...

I do a ton of putting and chipping on the carpet. Try to get to the range at least once every week. Take a few swings in the basement or backyard. Maybe knock a couple of balls into the woods. Lots of reading, and the frequent trip to the golf store to browse and hit into their nets. Think this winter I will be doing a lot of chipping and pitching in the backyard. Will have to invest in bright colored golf balls so I can see them in the snow...

Tried the Camilo Villegas workout today...
Beantown Beancounter replied to Sir Ryan's topic in Golf Talk
followed the workout plan today per the video. It was intense, and I could feel my core muscles getting the workout that they have been needing. I am going to keep up a regimen like this...as I am getting older it isn't so much as being able to lift the most, but rather overall strength, endurance, and balance throughout the body that I am looking for. Being out in New England and away from the hood in Cali, surfing is few and far between. When I was surfing 2-3 times a week a few years ago, i wa sin the best shape I have ever been in... -
Do you hover or ground your putter?
Beantown Beancounter replied to kfowler's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
hover putter and driver...I actually ground my putter, then hover a second or two before I start my backswing... -
the home course is High Fields in Grafton. They have done a good job of taking care of the track (peep the sig for website). A round on Friday will cost you $61 cart included. At the right time of day from Harvard you are looking at a 50 minute drive. I've also played Red Tail out in Devens which might be a trek for you though and more than you would like to spend. I have heard good things about Granite Links in Quincy but have yet to play there since moving here in '07. Work tomorrow so no links for me guy...

I always thought that the square heads resulted in a straighter ball flight if swung correctly? When I am unintentionally seeing fades/draws (read: "slices/hooks") I find choking up on my grip helps me get back in control with the big stick...

Congrats on the new sticks. Should have had those bad boys shipped to work! Lol...

advice on a 3 wood
Beantown Beancounter replied to fendermallot's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
If available I have to put out there that the TM Burner woods are great. I have the '07 3 wood and the club is a breeze to hit off the deck. I also have last year's burner 5 wood, which is one of my money clubs. Is there any other store that you can go to that has the same clubs that will at least let you swing them and hit some balls in-store? -
I have both the R9 460 and the '09 Burner. I am currently on the honeymoon with the R9, loving the adjustability of the club, and it seems to have a bit more of a classic looking head as opposed to the '09. The '09 Burner is great too, but I couldn't get used to the longer shaft and weight of it (obviously something I can change). But I am really into the fact that I have the ability to tinker with the R9, which appeals to me...
