  1. This is me. I much prefer my 5W - in fact it's often the best club in my bag.
  2. I frequently play solo and this is never a problem. Even in cases where i do play 2 balls, I keep track of each one and end up with 2 scores at the end of the round. It's interesting how different some of those scores can be. I think I had a 15 shot difference once.
  3. Twice I've put 5 in a row into a pond. Both resulted in 16s. the first time this happened I walked off the course. the second time I birdied the next hole.
  4. First round in 18 months and ended up with a 105. I can't say I expected to do much better, but I hoped I would.
  5. I was playing one of those neighborhood courses and sliced my drive so badly on the 18th hole that it bounced on the road running parallel to the course. It got 2 huge bounces and hits the front door of one of the houses across the street. A guy answers the door, looks around, shrugs his shoulders and goes back inside. It didn't appear to occur to him that it might be a golf ball hitting his door.
  6. outside of putter and driver, I use my 5w and SW the most. 5W since it tends to be my best club and I'm not that long to begin with, and SW since I do all my around the green work with it. I go entire rounds without using either my 8 or 9 irons.
  7. having a legit downhill lie in front of a long forced carry. I used to play a course where a par 5 had a 120 yard carry over water into the green. The slope to the water was steep enough to make a real difference in your stnce/swing. I always had to choose to lay up and make the carry about 170, or play the downhill shot and 50% of the time hit it fat and in the water. No winners here.
  8. I can't imagine how the head phones don't get in the way of a swing
  9. my least favorite guy (less because I dislike him and more because he's beyond robotic and seemingly lacking in personality) is Goosen. I recall him playing with Trevino at one those Primetime TV show events (Battle at Bighorn or some such nonesense) and Lee was chatting him up on the fairways, just trying to cut up with him a little and have an actual conversation, and Goosen gave him nothing. I noticed Trevino stopped trying after a while. I mean, if Trevino can't loosen you up, there's no loosening to do.
  10. I've had the same equipment for 19 years (except for having to replace my driver 10 years ago, whose head flew off one day) and have no plans to update. It didn't impact my buying decision then and it doesn't impact my approach to the game now. I guess you can say I just don't know any better. I just try to play within the capabilities I currently have and lower my handicap every round. My lousy swing has a much greater impact on how I approach the game.
  11. I guess this makes me old school And here I thought I was just cheap
  12. I'm a cross between rabbit and fox. I tend to play pretty fast and don't take much time on the ball (rabbit), but I spend a lot of mental energy on planning the shot during my walk up to the ball - I don't ride (fox). Executing my plans are the real issue and I do tend to be hard on myself when I miss badly - another fox trait.

    Tipping

Off topic, but slightly related: When I was in college I went to the range of one of these establishments and was, by coincidence was wearing a shirt bearing the logo of the club. A very confused fellow, apparently late for his tee time saw me carrying my bag and flew by me, giving me a $10 handshake mistaking me for a bagboy. I really did try (at least a little bit) to find him to refund his tip, but to no avail.
  14. 75 I've birdied 2 of the holes and there are several I've never made par on. But I'm a 30, so I can't really expect much else.
  15. I've played a nine with just a seven iron (no putter). I think I shot around 55, which is about 7 or 8 strokes higher than a standrd score on that particular course for me. I found it somewhat liberating to not have to think through yardage on most shots. Just another full 7. Related - I've also tired a couple speed golf rounds (limited clubs based on what you felt like carrying), and they were disasters. It helped make some of the unique stresses of Highway 18 a little more real.
