  1. i like the rust look too... i dont care about spin. i took an old cleveland chrome plated reg. 588 60* head to work and attempted to sandblast the head so it would rust... but the chrome didnt come off easily and now i'm left with a fugly club. that was a mistake. my next wedges will probably be the oil can finish.... may even buy used ones that are already rusty cause i'm too impatient to wait on it to wear off.
  2. what about G5 irons?? i have a g5 3 iron that has the serial number stamped into the hosel(little dots from a stencil)... the 4-pw set i have has the serial numbers etched in there... almost laser-like. which is the way ping really marks their irons serial numbers??
  3. your swing. if its a new superfast, i doubt the grip is worn down by now anyway....
  4. i have a 60* that my buddy gave me that i use for practicing in my yard and at the range and chipping greens. (i just leave it in my 4runner, along with a 6 iron, for those days i feel like hitting the range after work) its actually a great wedge, it feels a bit harsher than my vokey 60* but i can basically hit the same shots with it. the chrome finish is surprisingly durable, i've probably hit it 2000 times and it's still fairly shiny with just a small dull area on the face.
  5. try cutting your current shaft down at the butt end before you reshaft it. worked for me. i have tons more control now, and i didnt actually give up much, if any distance.
  6. yeah i have a swing plane thats in-between flat and upright... sort of a hogan-style swing, and i always get fitted for standard lie clubs... but i've played with red dot, black dot, blue dot, and green dot ping irons irons in the past, and the only time i noticed a difference was when i played my dad's greens. my 2nd set of irons is a set of black dot ping g5's that i wish were i5's. congrats on your boy's new irons, i hope he likes them. especially the 3 iron.
  7. appreciate it buddy!!! that was a ton of help.
  8. nope. i may can pull it up at work tomorrow morning. i'll give it a try then. appreciate the help
  9. appreciate the link, my computer won't let me open the mizuno links on that page for some reason...
  10. i have a couple questions about reshafting my 3 wood. (i'm going to do it myself) i broke my mizuno mp-001 3 wood a couple weeks ago when i pat my divot down, the head just popped off and the shaft was broken almost flush with the hosel, it just has a small triangular point sticking up where i assume the shaft first cracked. (no... i did not beat the club, it was actually a GREAT shot) whats the best way to get the remainder of the broken shaft out?? drill it?? does anybody know what the tip size is on these fairway woods?? when i buy a new shaft, do i just buy a driver shaft and cut it down from the butt end? i havent found any bona fide fairway shafts on the golfsmith website, this is why i ask.. is the ferrule really nescessary, or is it just for looks? appreciate it, this is my first time doing this. i contemplated just buying a new fairway wood, but i love this thing better than my own wife, and i couldnt find any newer fairway woods that i like better than this one at address. not a big fan of overside FW heads and deep faces. appreciate the info.
  11. x2. i ruined 3 out of the 8 grips i tried to remove. you're actually better off just buying new ones.
  12. quite the opposite for me...
  13. supposed to be released soon... i just saw in GD they were priced at 1500 bucks a set... how long you think untill the price goes down? or if it will??
  14. the brand has been discontinued as far as i know, my old apex plus irons were the best ive ever hit. i would buy a brand new set of them today if they were still in production...
  15. i wipe them down after every shot with a wet towel. i clean the irons with hot water and a brass brush after EVERY round, and the woods with a terry towel soaked in warm water. my woods have never seen a brush of any kind. i dont clean the grips, i just replace them every year. its kind of overboard yeah, but i store my clubs in the extra den, so they dont need to go in there dirty. (and i'm a bit ocd when it comes to dirty clubs, i will NOT hit a club with dirt on it, not even at the range)
  16. thats what i do too. i never sell my clubs either. i'm getting excited for these new irons ping has coming out, i've always been loyal to the ping name, but after playing forged irons the last 2 years, i cant make myself go back to sgi irons... these anser forged irons *should* fit me nicely.
  17. dang it i want a set of these..... will they ever be released in the US??
  18. wore a black and hot pink trion:z bracelet for over a year for no reason other than i thought it looked cool... it did absolutely nothing for my golf game, or any other game for that matter. i just felt sexy cause i'm a super macho guy and i was wearing a pink bracelet.
  19. have you tried the mp fli hi long irons?? i carry a 21* cut muscle fli hi and its actually quite easy to get the ball up in the air... took a few rounds to get used to the offset and wider sole, but once i did, it became a lethal weapon on tight par 4's.
  20. do yall usually practice with the wedges you play or do you use an old one with similar loft/bounce?? reason i ask... when i got my vokeys, i didnt want to wear them out with the all the balls i pitch/chip around my backyard everyday....so i bought a cheap, used ping tour 54 to pitch around my backyard with. (sometimes i hit up to 200 balls a day) well... after practicing with it so much, i've found out that i'm more confident with it.. so out came the vokey and in went the old worn out ping.... looking back, i probably should have bought a used worn out vokey similar to it to practice with, cause now i have a $110 buck club sitting in the closet... how do yall do it?
  21. (to the OP) me and you are similar handicaps, so i can probably give you some fairly sound advice on this subject... i've played everything from a true blade to a MB to a SGI to a small cavity back in the last 10 years, here's my honest unbaised thoughts on them.. the blades i played were an old set of macgregors. (70's model, they were hand me downs from my grand dad), i played them from when i was 14-16 years old.. when i hit them pure i was in complete control of the ball. however, if i even missed the center, especially towards the toe, the clubs jarred my hands and i watched the ball sail almost directly to my right, often into the woods or into the water... i loved these clubs regardless of the strokes i lost with them, but at the time i wanted more forgiveness... got a set of ping isi-k's. they set up like a blade, despite the slight offset and the oversized head.. they were more forgiving than the old macgregors, but miss hits hurt my hands even worse and it seems miss hits were even harder to control than with the blades... after about 6 years, i got tired of the isi-k's so i got a set of ping g5's... i thought they would save my game, but boy was i wrong. i started duck hooking them everywhere, i consistently missed the green left, i hit them a mile into the sky and had no control whatsoever. i seriously contemplated quitting golf after playing these... my buddy gave me a set of ben hogan apex plus irons (muscleback design, but has moderate offset and perimeter weighting)... these irons were leaps and bounds better than the godforsaken g5's. i shot an 84 my first round out with these and the hooks magically dissapeared. ive hit some of the best shots of my life with these irons... played them awhile, finally decided to get a set of mizuno comp-ez's cause the hogans are extremely worn out (grooves are dull... very rusted on the clubfaces)... the mizunos have a small cavity back and some perimeter weighting, and a slightly larger hitting area and very minimal offset.. i LOVE these irons. i'm very consistent with them and i know exactly where i hit the ball on the clubface, they provide quite a bit of forgiveness on miss hits and the ball flight is beautiful. i plan to keep these for a very long time... blades are not for everyone.. and neither are cavity backs. the highest scores ive ever shot in recent memory were with the g5's. could be a mental thing... but i play much better with a smaller club. i'm mainly a mid handicapper cause i can't putt to save my life and i usually rack up a few penalty strokes from wild drives. my ironplay is fairly consistant. i'd recomment a MB over a blade, and a small cavity back over a MB. but i wouldnt recommend a SGI iron to anybody other than people who absolutely suck at golf. my expeirences with them were hoorid. go to your local golf store and buy a bunch of demo 6 irons (everything from a blade to a mb to a players cavity) and hit the range. decide for yourself based solely on your own results and not on other people's opinions, we all play golf differently, regardless of our similar handicaps.
  22. blades are not *that* hard to hit. i played 3 rounds of golf in Tennessee when i was visiting my mom with a set of borrowed wilson staff tour blades.. i shot my usual scores... the rounds were actually alot more satisfying... i still dream about that 210 yard 4 iron into the wind that came to rest 2 ft from the hole....
  23. congrats. if i had the cash i'd buy a set of mp52's right now. i doubt anybody will pick on you for using iron covers, i see people with them every now and then
  24. my mp 001 3 wood. i bleed confidence everytime i address the ball with this club, whether its off the deck or off a tee. my 2nd favorite is my driver... 3rd fav is most definetly my lob wedge... can't live without it either...
  25. i dont think mizuno needs a huge advertising program. their clubs speak for themselves. i've seen alot of mizuno clubs in better golfer's bags... ALOT. especially the mp33's.
