I'm looking to add a hybrid to my bag. I want something I can hit about 215-220. I am dropping my 5 wood or 3 iron - haven't decided which yet - because they are the two least used clubs in my bag. The 3 iron is often too short and the 5 wood is often too long. My relevant distances are: 3 wood: 240 5 wood: 225 3 iron: 210 4 iron: 200 5 iron 190 I can't decide what degree hybrid to go with. Anyone have a similar situation? What did you choose? What were your results? I know the best answer is to try and see.. but I can only hit on indoor launch monitors around here and I've always found them to be pretty inaccurate.

I've never heard of Edel, but after looking at them, I am sort of interested now. I'm not tied up on the Scotty Cameron name or anything, I just haven't found many putters that I like as much. Roughtly what did it cost for your Edel and fitting? The nearest place is 2.5 hours from me..

That isn't really a good option. Being fit to one putter and putting the same specs on a different putter may not give you the same results. Putting 3 degrees left on Putter A and 3 degrees loft on Putter B may not product the same roll.

I am interested in getting properly fitted for a putter. I've never considered myself a good putter, and I feel like I jump around to different putters trying to find something that fits me well. I think perhaps the best thing to do is to be properly fitted for one just like my irons or anything else. I'm not convinced that a putter you buy off the shelf is the right lie angle, loft, etc for everyone. I am most interested in being fitted for a Scotty or perhaps a Nike Method. I've played a couple Scotty's the last few years and I like them a lot, although I found I was constantly adjusting myself to fit the putter. I love the feel of the Nike, but have never purchased one. So... where the heck do you go for this? Golfsmith and Golf Galaxy are the only places around that I know of that keep these two in stock. I'm just now sure how confident I am in these places to do the fitting properly. I feel like the guys working there are just guys who like working at a golf store. I would feel more comfortable working with a Pro or someone, but I'm not sure where I can go where they will have the putter in stock. I don't want to just buy the putter and take it somewhere else, because if I buy a 34 with 15g weights, and then they say I need 33", I don't have the heavier head.

I started playing a little when I was 12-13. My mom would drop me and a friend off at the course on Tuesdays and Thursdays where you could walk all day for $8. I started playing on the high school team when I was 14. I couldn't break 100. My best 9 hole score that season was 52. I had my first hole-in-one at age 16. My senior year I was shooting high 70's & low-mid 80's. I placed 5th in our District tournament but didn't make it past Regionals. I had my second hole-in-one at age 20. I'm now 30 years old and just broke 70 for the first time last year, getting down to about a 4.5 handicap. I also had my first double eagle last year.

Anyone have a good app for measure the distance of a golf shot in the iPhone? I found a free program called "Golf Shot Distance" but it's pretty slow. I'd basically just like to have something where you hit the button where you're starting... drive to where the ball is... hit the button again to see how far you hit it. I don't need anything fancy...

I think you'd be better off going with the combo. You get the additional forgiveness in the longer irons. I purchased the VR Combo about a month ago, and they're the best irons I've ever played. In the last 4 years, I've played 3 different sets of Mizuno and they all fail in comparison to the VR Combo in my opinion (I was a die-hard Mizuno fan before these).

I got rid of my Mizuno MP-52's a short while back and got a set of Mizuno JPX 800 Pro. They are very forgiving, but I just don't think they're for me. The lofts are too strong (PW is 45 degrees I believe). They came with a GW, but the head seems monstrous and I can't control it very well... and it's still pretty long. That leaves me with a big gap between a full GW (125 yards) and a full 56 degree (100-105 yards). I've also lost the ability to hit a fade when I want. I admit I probably hit more greens due to their forgiveness, but otherwise... I'm not too terribly happy with them. I would have rather kept the MP-52's. I go in GolfSmith at least once a week and just nose around. This week I saw the Nike VR Pro Combo for the first time. I fell in love with their looks immediately. I found a good deal on a set on Ebay and they should be here by the end of the week. Really curious to get my hands on them. If I don't like them, I don't think I'll have any problem getting my money back out of them... but those short irons are possibly the best looking club I've ever seen.

Has anyone purchased any after-market weights for a Studio Select from Ebay? I'm wanting to take about 1/2" off my putter and go to the heavier weights, but the price for the custom shop to to it is pretty ridiculous. I'd also have to pay for a Scotty grip, which I don't even like. Considering just purchasing off-brand after-market weights from Ebay.. but even those are $50-60. That way I'd at least have my lighter ones if I ever wanted to go back.

We're waaaiiiiiting. I've been wanting to do this for a while, but simply don't want to be without my putter for very long. If I knew I would get it back in 12 days I'd do it in a heartbeat.

You should wear whatever you want as long as it meets the requirements/regulations of the course. At the course where I'm a member, jeans are not frowned upon, but they aren't really normal. Most people just wear khaki shorts in the summer and khaki pants or rain/wind pants in the winter. If somebody shows up in jeans, nobody cares. At the course where my Dad's a member, it's right the opposite. Almost everyone wears jeans, sweatshirts, etc in the winter. In the summer it's usually just normal khaki shorts. There are plenty of golfers there with 1-3 handicaps wearing jeans. You're more likely to be "poked fun at" if you showed up with a $100 pair of slacks and a $80 shirt. In the end... who cares? Wear whatever you're comfortable in as long as the course management doesn't care.

I've been given a Wednesday practice round ticket for the Masters. Lucky me. :-D It's being sent to me... and I'm curious... does that automatically include access to the Par 3 tournament? Or are those tickets separate?

I think it's worth it if 1) you can comfortably afford it and 2) it feels good to you. I sometimes come across a putter than is old and cheap, but feels great to me. Sometimes I come across a 200-300 dollar putter that also feels great. I think it's perfectly fine to spend a couple hundred on a putter if you're not taking anything away from your family.

Just a simple question.. do you play the ball down tee to green? Do you do it 100% of the time? In other words... if your ball lands in the fairway, but in a divot.. do you move it out of the divot? I've played golf for about 15 years, but just started playing it down 100% of the time about two years ago. It's made me a better golfer. I think the main reason I never played it down is because I grew up playing on courses that were in pretty rough shape and it was very common to be in the middle of the fairway but behind a big clump of crab grass or something.

Good luck to you! You boys are on a whole 'nother level... We had a Nationwide qualifier at my home course last year. The winner shot -10, new course record. The other people who qualified shot -5. The day before the qualifier I was playing.. and a lot of those guys were there practicing. A foursome of them were behind my group. I stepped up on a par 5 and I just BOMBED my drive. Farthest one I had ever hit on that hole. It was a shade over 300. As I'm standing over my ball, grinning and waiting to hit my approach shot... one of them tees off and their ball FLIES past mine. Of course they were playing from the tips also! *gulp*

I agree with Stretch. That launch angle is high for that club. Even with a higher kick point, I don't think you'll lower the launch angle much. I think you should save the money and work on swing changes. Perhaps you could put the money towards a lesson or two. Tell the instructor your goal is to lower your launch angle. He'll be able to help you.. If you really want to try a new shaft, try a Pro Launch Red. You can get them fairly cheap.

Hrmmm.. I haven't heard anything about it. Did you call the course itself? Just curious, what other courses do you have lined up?

This might not be much help... but I've played River Islands and liked it. It's actually in Kodak, about 25-30 min from Knoxville. Probably not the course you want to play every time, but it's worth the trip once or twice. (good to see a fellow West TN person here - I'm originally from the Henry/Weakley county area)

I've never played Tidewater, but I respectfully disagree about Oyster Bay. It's the worst course I've played in Myrtle Beach, in my opinion. Last year I was on a trip there with 7 other guys. Handicaps ranging from 4 - 40. We all thought it was the worst of the 5 courses we played. Just a tip - call the courses you're going to play and ask what kind of shape they're in and ask specific questions. I played Tiger's Eye (part of the Big Cats) last year. When I got there, I found out they had lost their greens. They were the worst greens I've EVER played on - including winter greens. They were nothing but dirt in most spots. I was so disappointed.. of course they didn't bother to tell me that when I made the tee time. The starter didn't even mention it. You just found out when you got to the first green!
