  1. Ok so dumpster diving isn't a good ideea, but freecycle* is a pretty good bet. I scored a free bag and two sets of old Ping and Pinseeker irons in it for free. Bunch of old golf balls in it too. I used to stop by the salvation army because they would sometimes have sandwich bags full of golf balls (some old and some recent) and enough old irons to melt down and build infrastructure with. I'm also on the lookout for garage sales, as flopdarock said, I missed out on a giant rich neighborhood garage sale and I'm positive there would have been golf gold in there. *Freecycle: An online organization that allows you and others in your community to give and take anything that is no longer in use for FREE. Look it up on google.
  2. hey guys, finally got around to getting my swing on camera. Here it is in all its low resolution glory; its good enough to see. Driver swing: ↵ Use original player This video has been removed by the user. 8 iron: ↵ Use original player This video has been removed by the user. Sorry about the darkness on the 8 iron vid. As Ive said earlier I've been playing for almost a year and I haven't taken any lessons. What you are seeing is all self taught. I'd appreciate any tips or comments, thanks!
  3. Its funny you said that, today at the range I decided to swing a little harder and to my surprise I was drilling them down range, and they felt smooth as butter and solid, with an occasional slice here and there, but the results were amazing. I wasn't doing anything dramatic and unusual, it is just a much faster swing. I'll try to get it on camera tomorrow and post it.
  4. Thanks for the reply guys, I know dumpster diving isn't exactly glamorous, but you never know what stores throw out. I haven't tried dumpster diving before, I was just curious as what the general opinion was. Green fees aren't really a problem around here, there are a couple of decent courses for decent prices, its just the kid in me to enjoy finding free or almost free stuff and put it to good use. I'll let you know guys if I actually go through with it.
  5. Well I am actually on our school golf team, and it really depends on how good your golf team is and what the coach is like. Our school is pretty sucky at every sport, except baseball (we rank in the top ten nationally in baseball, i believe) I was able to join the team midway through the season. The coach had me hit a few balls on the range and he didn't believe I had taught myself golf in 6 months and had a swing like that. I ended up only playing one match and I did terrible. I will have to wait till next year to play again since the season ended already so I have the remainder of this school year and the summer to sharpen my game. Judging from your scores, you seem to be alot better than I am, so I think you should go for it and give it a shot. Looks good on your transcripts even if you don't play college golf.
  6. well, if you count mini-golf: Got to the 3rd to last hole, and this was a toughie: hard dog left and I had the option of either rolling it up the hill on the right side and running it down the slope towards the hole, or taking the straight shot down the left and two putt. A hazard separted the two options. I felt courageous so I took the first route. didn't really think too much about the putt, just set up and hit it up the hill, rolled down the slope and ran towards the hole. My cousin and I were shouting, me going "Go IN! Go IN!" and my cousin shouting "No, no, NO, NOOO!!" as it finally dropped into the cup. I beat him that round.
  7. I play for my high school team and when we I played my first match with them we neither fixed divots or repair ball marks (if there were any, I don't recall seeing any) Needless to say I was quite shocked, because I wanted to do the right thing but nobody else did.
  8. I think hats make me look stupid, and I wear glasses already so whenever I go out, I'm bare from the neck up: no hat, no sunglasses.
  9. Let's face it, Golf is an expensive game, and my own opinion is that nobody should ever have to pay too much for anything that they shouldn't really have to pay for at all. So recently I began wondering whether or not dumpster diving behind golf galaxy, sports authority, dicks sporting goods etc is worth the effort, after all I hear of stores throwing out perfectly good merchandise and I'm sure I would be able to find golf tees, golf balls, gloves, etc. all for free due to stores restocking or rollbacks or something. Does anybody else agree with me on this? Times are tough right now, if anybody should be pinching pennies right now, its golfers.
  10. So I'm guessing the timing of the wrists rolling over at impact must be precise enough so that the club head is just barely closed at impact which causes a draw. Sounds pretty tough to do at high swing speeds, everytime I've tried to hit a draw I get a bit carried away and I usually end up with a giant hook, or something worse
  11. Heres an easy fix (or at least what I think is always easy) : Keep your head still during the entire swing. If your head is moving up, down, etc, it means other parts of your body might also be moving, so if you keep your head still, you keep your body still and you hit clean shots.
  12. This sounds like the proper way to learn how to play, instead of going to the driving range for a year like I have.
  13. Well the main problem with this driver is that whenever I swing it, it feels to me that a million things have to go right for the ball to just get off the ground. Im not sure whether its my swing that is at fault or the shaft flex, and i plan to get it re shafted soon with a lighter shaft with higher flex. whether or not it will solve the problem is still a question but I just don't like the feeling of grabbing my driver and HOPING for a good drive. I'd rather just like to know I can hit a straight bomb off the tee every time. Thats what I want.
  14. Well, there are bound to be different answers to this. Ive been playing for a year, and I've taught myself how to swing without taking a single lesson (although that may soon change) If your hitting it fat, try to stand a little more upright and make sure your arms just hang freely from your shoulders and keep your knees bent and head still throughout your swing. Hitting it thin usually means you are too anxious to see the result of your shot before you've even hit the ball and you rise up and thin it. This happens to me alot too.
  15. i don't mean to be offensive but you look somewhat like Charles Barkley and his infamous golf swing in these pictures.
  16. It doesnt seem like you are shifting your weight to your left foot during the swing. Try to shift the weight and at the finish have your right foot on its tippy toes, this way you encourage more of a turning action to get to that finish.
  17. It would help if I could access the links.
  18. lol good one KS8829, what I'm going to do is take a video of my swing with my driver, and everybody can attempt to give me advice so I can hit the straightest longest drive ever in the swing analysis thread.
  19. I completely agree with getting fitted, even though hitting drives off of rubber tees freak me out for some reason, but what will I do with my Burner?
  20. Personally I believe you can hit any club in the bag as long as you have a fundamentally sound swing. My swing is on plane and my irons are usually solid, if I can keep my head still and just relax while I'm swinging. But I just cannot understand why the driver is the only club I can't hit as consistently as my irons.
  21. I'm new to the forum, I've been playing golf for almost a year now and as my name states I am a driving range junkie because I don't get to play as much as I want to on courses. I recently bought a 9.5 degree Taylormade Burner Driver with a stiff shaft, and I now realized that this was a bad buy for two reasons: the low loft and the stiff shaft. I hit my irons pretty well for the most part, but my driver is so so and I just wanted some advice on what I should do with the driver because I want to get a driver with a less stiff shaft because I think that will make my driver more consistent. So my options are: 1. Return or trade in the driver and buy a new driver that has a more flexible shaft and maybe more loft. 2. Learn to swing my current driver and maybe become a better golfer because of it. Thanks in advance.
  22. Nothing but a high school student, but I am on the golf team. (Even though I could never play like I do at the driving range)
  23. I've seen some of Jack's video clips, and hes pretty good, but I like Tiger.
  24. http://www.golflink.com/golf-courses...?course=209845 I don't think they have an official website. Don't get to play there, its pretty pricey.
