20+ handicappers hitting 300 yards (mild rant)
jcrob902 replied to extremeld's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I agree, I play with a guy that can hit the ball well over 300 yds but can barely break 90 on a good day just because he can hit the ball far doesn't mean he hit's it straight! I mean the only real reason he can't beat me is because he can't hit a wedge or any 3/4 or 1/2 swing with any consistancy far as that goes but he's great in a scramble though I don't know why so many good golfers think it's imposible for a golfer of inferior skill to hit the ball farther than them ( uh like you ) sorry to kill your ego but ther eare guy's out there that are much stronger and can swing the club faster than you that you can just kill when it comes time to add up scores, it's just the way it is put your ego in check and get over it. -
I don't know about all the corporate stuff but I have noticed that ping is on sale NO WHERE AT ALL EVER, I nwvwe played a ping club until I bought a G10 driver, and um good club but it's gone already and I'm back on the new driver hunt again.
-
I actually bought mx 25,s because I just dont play enough and for some reason I didn't think about a mixed set but I have demoed most Mizuno irons and the mp 57's we're my favorite MP irons the only reaon I decided on the 25's was because they felt just like the 57's but we're a little easier to hit in the long irons, I would say the 57's are definatley the best of the mp line. I don't know I just didn't like the 52's, the blades are sweet though if your consistant enough.

I have too many although Michigan isn't south carolina or florida there are still alot of great courses here designed by alot of them by the same guys that designed the courses in the golf vacation mecas northern Michigan probably has some of the best golf as a whole that you can find in one place during one vacation and being on the far west of the eastern time zone you can play until around 9:30-10:00 on the western side of the state in the summer, if you havn't played here you should and then you can see what I'm talking about.
-
Yes, you are very right I played with a couple of guys from Ohio that we're here this past summer you should take the trip for a weekend and come play, depending on where you are I;m only 2 hrs from cedar pointe so a 2 hr drive and we've got some good ones in south central michigan that will definatley impress you and at the very least will be worth the drive.
-
Hey next time you come to michigan make sure you try and play the Grande(a 4 star in Golf Digest) Calderone farms(a links layout) and a little bit east in chelsea is Pierce lake these courses make cascade look very boring.

Just kind of curious why? What brought this about? I'm kind of interested in what you find out, you could also buy the epoxy from golf smith and do it yourself, Let us know what the results are.
-
I'm with MI Rob I can't wait until this stuff goes away we just got another 3-4 inches today it's been to cold all of january was like an average of -5 F or colder I hate Michigan in the winter. Any body know of any good jobs somewhere in the south East or South West.

I seen it on the golf channel .com I liked it, seemed to kind of fit with all the larger than life hype Tiger is getting in his leave and now his return to the tour.
-
I agree, there is a difference, maybe not to most people but to me there is I played titleist 990 irons (cast ) for 9 years and switched to mizuno( forged ) last year and there is a difference although subtle I also switched from vokey wedges(cast) to mizuno t series (forged) and the weight and softness of the metal is definately different. Now both wedges and irons we're great, it was just that I perfered the forged over the cast. I'ts just like when people argue over milled putters and insert putter's it just depends on how you like the feel of the club. You can't really go wrong with either of the companies mentioned above though.

I completly disagree, as all hybrids are not created equally! you should take your 5 wood and your 5 iron to the range and hit some balls with a club fitter present and then with a launch monitor and track man present hit various hybrids until you find the one that fits the distance gap that you'r looking for! assuming that your looking for a club to replace your 3 iron if not do the same with the other clubs you have the fitting is almost always free and almost all of the pro's and fitters around he're are more than happy to work with you to get your game and clubs right, especially af your going to spend money so make sure they know you have money and are not there to just talk and hit there ckubs and waste time and you'll get great service.

TM Tour Burner or TM R7 Limited
jcrob902 replied to jcrob902's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Really? Ihave heard the same thing but the other way around,a pga guy who showed me his patriot model told me his # stayed the samed except his ball speed went up 5 miles an hr any body else got any input on this topic? -
No I hav'nt checked the new pro v's but he imop I liked the tour i alot better than the 56 or the hx tour, the hx models we're to clonky off the putter for me, however the tour i was too spinny, I'd say go with the prov x ( I don't know about the new model though) or the bridgestone ball you'll also be very surprised with the srixon ball which I'm going to also put in play this year.
-
No big deal for us that have someone at a golf retail store and can walk out with any 45.00 ball in the store which is all from bridgestone and callaway to titleist for 27 dollars however I have grown accustomed to Bridgestone B330 and unless the new ball holds up as well as these guy's do I'm not going back. Titleist recovering addict , been clean since 2007!

I'm thinking of, no I'm going to tbuy a new driver and it's come to this, either a Taylormade tour burner or a r7 limited I'v read all the reviews and there is a mixed lot out there I'm definatley not going to go by reviews on what I'm going to buy, but just wondered what you guys thought, anybody own either of these? and if so have you hit both? and I would also like to hear your verdicts.

Whats the next addition to your golf bag going to be?
jcrob902 replied to svchiefs19's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Dude, go with the 25's it's crazy but compared with the # of other irons on the used market it seems like the 25's are the rarest to find wich means people that buy them are pretty happy as I am, take it from a fellow Michigander and go witht the 25's and GO BLUE! the signing class looks good this year. -
I liiked it and I did'nt lke it. I liked it because of the pressure that it put on the players to perform, there's your true test! I did'nt like it because there was to much noise and cheering and booing going on before a player even tee'd off, I think personally that you should at least let the ball get into the air before you start yelling and acting like a fool! don't get me wrong I think it's great to have something like that in golf, it's just American, but hollering at golfers before thay even tee off is kind of irritating like when that jack a%# yells get in the hole on a tee shot, on a par five that is 605 yds long, COME ON MAN!
-
Listen ,man you can go to the driveng range all you want and it's good if you have to work on something particular or warming up but your never going to get better at golf unless you play golf, I seen your video and not a bad swing but I cant imagine that there was anywhere there that you could actually practice golf. I play way more than I practice ( That's what winter is for in Michigan, practice) you need real golf situations where you can play real life golf shots to improve, I doubt you ever need to hit a 3/4 wedge shot at the driveng range to get it close to put the pressure on your buddies and get bragging rights ! Keep practicing but make sure you practice the right things and play some golf, if you want to improve!
-
He is right because when you take the club back slower you give your self time to get in synce for your down swing, I have found that I hit the ball farther by alot and straighter when I slow down I take a prctice swing at what I figure for me is 80% an I conciously make myself hit the ball with the same swing that I used for my practice swing, if I dont I snap hook it or come in to fast tot square the club face and hit a big push slice, remember the club is designed to work a particular way and just like spinning it with your irons hitting big drives is all about making a good swing and solid contact, even if your average carry distance is 225 on a good swing if you make a bad swing and miss you'll probably only carry it about 190 and who knows where it's going no matter if you generate another 10 mph in club head speed.
-
If you'r refering to the quote above no I don't think mp 57's or the 52's are GI irons I was just agreeing that as a former Titleist player I now prefer the Mizuno irons there a better iron and have more to choose from in my handicap catagory,I would probably compare the MP 52's & 57's to the AP2'S but no where close to the AP1's sorry for the confusion.

I Need Your Club Advice/Help, please!
jcrob902 replied to dweso's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I would definatley not dump the MP-57'S however if you really want to add some forgiveness to your iron set try to replace your 4,5,6 iron for the MX-25 4,5,6, irons, as far as ball striking I used to drop pennies on the floor and hit them with a old club in the winter time to keep me sharp if you can sweep a penny off the carpet consistently you should be able to hit a golf ball clean a little more often. Good luck! -
Overlap vs Interlock vs Baseball Grips
jcrob902 replied to mcflynn's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Interlock feels way more secure to me like my hands are really working together and I'm not going to lose the club during my swing -
Either the mizuno T-series orthe vokey hands down although I have a few friends that are big fans of cleveland, I'd try them all and see what you think.
