I'm still waiting for the slow foursome ahead of us to find their ball. Right now its dark out, and in the distance the crickets are laughing. A wolf is howling. If we bivouac we can hang on till morning.

I agree, polite, but keep it moving.

The other day I had the privilege of playing golf on a public course in Westchester County, NY with a NYPD Hero Cop.. I was playing with a retired Police Officer that had multiple gold stars, multiple good shootings and a host of pickup robberies that ended with arrests and honorable mentions during the 1980's/1990's.) (not to mention 9/11 service.) We were playing the 5th hole when the ranger sounded the thunder alarm. It is custom that when the horn sounds if you only played 7 or less holes you can get a rain check. Not that day. (Tough economy I guess). The course manager denied the rain check for every one that approached him. His statement: if its raining in 30 minutes come back. We did, and were denied. Sure the manger didn't know he was a hero cop. But still... Even if he was Joe Shmoe; he made the course rule:rain checks for every proper request. During the rain delay that lasted almost 1.5 hours we drained a few beers and talked golf. The Retired cop was interested in playing again if the sun broke but the weather was far from clear. The course manager- resplendent with the obligatory cigar in the mouth denied everyone multiple times. I thought that was obtuse and uncalled for. When you pay to play if conditions persist for an hour at least you should be afforded the chance to play again. I will reconsider playing that course as often as I had before.

Happiness is a chip and a one putt green. I've have been really hitting the short game lately and it has paid some great dividends. I've been having rounds with multiple one put greens all because of the close chip. I still play a par 4 as a par 5, and I have been playing pretty good bogey golf, but I find the thing that gets me to par (me being a 40x year old tow truck driver with odd hours/ex wife and a bad back) is the good chip. Seriously, chipping close get me really exited (and low scores.)

Captain, I givnit all shes got. Like Scotty, I cant seem to get past 250. I want warp speed on my drives. The good news is when I swing really fast- I get to swing again with a brand new ball! (&*#!@$(@!#). Of if I'm lucky- I'm on the fairway! (of the adjoining hole!). Any ideas for long off the tee?

Switching to Titleist ProV1.

I actually appreciate David Leadbetter and his tips. I think his academies and golf digest articles are good. They are over the top though. I remember one of his tips: put a banana between your chest and elbow in order to cut out the banana ball. -
Oh yeah!!!. Inside info! at that price.. Thanks for the heads up!

At 25, in my opinion you should be more geared for growth, since if you loose money you got all that time to make it up. Find out about vesting in the 401k. Since presumably, you'll be leaving after the internship. Hopefully you might be able to leave it with the company. Just watch out for doubled fees after you leave. If they double the fees and hidden costs when you leave un-vested, you might be better off with a low fee IRA from a broker.

Anyone investing in this market. The sp500 is so low, and the equities look like a bargain. I've been picking up shares of on sale blue chips. Hopefully, this banking mess sorts out. Got lucky and made a decent chunk on Diamond Offshore (DO). {BEGIN OPINION:: JIM CRAMER FOR FED CHAIRMAN! }

Glad to hear you were reunited with your 6. The jerk will be doomed to unfavorable lies, and unlucky bounces for life. I'm so worried about losing clubs that what I do virtually guarantees I don't forget it. When I walk to green, after chipping, I put the wedge on the bee line that I take off the green to my push cart. This way, after holing out I walk back to my cart, and pick up my wedge on the way.

96 at the sprain lake golf course in Westchester NY. One lost ball, thankfully it was a water ball.

GPS golf equipment.

GPS, mapping, and record keeping. That would be the killer app for the iphone or the skycaddie, and anything else on the market. Can't wait to pull the trigger on this item. (just gotta convince the chairwomen of the board the virtues of this investment. ) Thanks for all the information everyone is providing. -
Switching to Titleist ProV1.

Today I played a round, and on a par 3 I hit a prov1. It flew past the green using my usual iron for that green. since I thought I landed in the drink, I hit a cheap Hyper Ti provisional. Same swing, same iron. The ball landed short. Both ball flights where true (little or no side movement) so, that suggests the prov1 is longer off the tee. Happy ending: the prov1 landed on the fringe-not in the drink, so I chipped, then two putted for a bogey. -

Thanks for all the replies. I have one last question, do you have to pay the subscription each year even if you don't want to add more courses. I have a consistent circuit of courses that I play, also known of inexpensive municipal courses, so I don't want to pay the skygolf man every April. That month is for the IRS. -
I'm in the market for a gps golf gizmo. Not sure which one to get. Does anyone know if they make one that keeps track of your distances. Like if I hit a 4 iron, can I indicate that on the device then later retrieve all my 4iron shots and analyze my club distances? Can I download my round onto my computer and see where I screwed up? Does anyone know if you can superimpose the data, on to a course map, and get a bird's eye view of the round? How sturdy are the devices? Field tested waterproof? Thanks in advance for any info.

I'm finished with buying balls that are on sale.I have been using the same box of wilson hyper ti for 5 rounds and counting, so I'm not loosing many balls. I recently played a back nine with a spare pro-vi (that I found in the range bucket). The ProV1 off the tee it was pretty much like any other ball. On the fringe and on the green, however it was ethereal. Seriously. It checked and held. Flew and grabbed like on TV. Putting: there is a line already on the ball! Is their anything the prov1 doesn't do- except use cup seeking technology now in play at the Area 51 Country Club?

Big fan of the x tour. Love the click I hear when I hit it. -

I'm gonna try using the reserve system. I already registered my nys dmv number. I now have to wait 48 hours. -
How often and when should you re-grip?
InTheTwenties replied to twotacosfor99cents's topic in Golf Talk
Hey thats a neat idea! I re-grip every spring. I do it myself, and it's easy for those of you that are handy around the house. I have never changed the grip of my putter. I uses rubbing alcohol to clean/refresh the grips in between rounds. -
You're preaching to the choir. Too many commercials. I counted anywhere from 3 shots to 10 before going to commercial. And the chit chat of the announcers would put a office social to shame. I can see the future: Sand saves brought to you by: up and in Viagra. Long tee shots of the day by Enzyte and tough putts sponsored by Ambian.

The person who got me this meant me well, so I give you the PUTTER POTTY just to continue the thread without malice to the gift giver. She gave it to me on a lark. The putter potty is a golf putting mat you us while on the john. Thats right. While doing your business on the john, you get to sink a put. BTW: I have not used it. (yet.)

Going to play Bethpage within a few weeks (my own family 'us open'). I'm tuning up the driver, and cutting out my slice. Tweaking the putter and ditching the yipes. Has anyone use their car to get there? Any caveats? How is the parking? Thanks in advance.

NYC, Bethpage, carless, tough economy - save $
InTheTwenties replied to nevets88's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
How'd you do? What did you shoot? What was the condition of the course? I'm looking to play bethpage in a few weeks- to test my self against tough conditions. I've been getting a lot of birdies on my usual course... Cant wait to triple bogey bethpage! -
I read this old book called: T he Duffers guide to bogey golf by Swarbrick, Brian. It was a funny read, but it also gave good advice that I have followed. The result: My first round of golf enjoyed with a score of 93. The main theme: leave the driver in the trunk for a few rounds. The gist: on a par 4 of 300 yards: take two control shots to the green with your 150 club instead of killing the ball with the driver. The 150 club should land you in the fairway, then the next should land you on the green or just off. 2 Putt, par. The other main theme: look at a par 4 like a par 5. Bogey is your new par. The result is bogey golf, or more specifically: a score of 88- 93. Swarbrick's book was a special find at the library. I'm glad I read it. You should too.

These are great. I'm going to use these on my next round.
