  1. This is something to watchout for - Good advice.
  2. I think what causes a lot of players to start taking deep divots is the "idea" of hitting down on the ball. You can still take a divot if the bottom of your swing arc is in front of the ball say 1 to 3 inches. But when you are taking deep divots the bottom of your swing arc is much further ahead of the ball (or perhaps you're not maintaining your spine angle and you are moving at the ball.) Try to find a place where you can make some swings without the ball to determine the bottom of your swing (just take a small divot) and then without changing your set up place a ball just before the start of the divot. Make your normal swing and you should hit down on the ball and not take that deep divot. Hope this helps. Good luck
  3. I hear you and to think that some people (JM) think that Tiger is not a great putter. He will soon own most of the records (not all - like Byron Nelson's 11 in a row albeit against weaker fields) and then the Who's the Greatest argument will be put to bed.
  4. That sounds right - will help if you only hit to targets on the range and then take that out to the course.
  5. Sounds like a bit too much divot - hard to tell without seeing your swing. Good luck
  6. Really, really important with hybrids. Good advice
  7. Not to make excuses for him but I believe that he has suffered with a bad back in the past. If that's true - it's a tough game with that problem.
  8. Agree w/ the posters that say stick with hitting it straight and if you can continue to do that be grateful.
  9. Absolutely agree - as you can see from the amount of good and/or well intentioned advice posted here - what you really need is a trained pair of eyes watching your swing. Good luck
  10. I think Lee Trevino said "you can talk to a slice but a hook won't listen".
  11. [QUOTE=Zeph;325572] Not for someone at index 5.9, but at 30+, it's a frightening shot. I was scared to death from it before, but now I've practiced it a lot and feel much more confident. It's still a harder and more risky shot than a chip. That was my point earlier. When I play with 20 to 30 HCP'rs trying to hit flop shots when there is absolutely nothing in front of them - I have to bite my tongue to avoid giving that, heaven forbid, unasked for advice. I think it was someone like Byron Nelson that said the best advice he could give an amateur was "get the ball on the ground as fast as you can". I practice the flop (as well as many other short game shots) but only feel that it's the right shot one or two times a round, if that. And you're absolutely right there is a big, big difference between a 5.9 and a 30+. Cheers
  12. That is truly amazing plus when he is playing his best no one beats him but when he is playing something less than his best he is still contending and sometimes winning. Thats pretty darn good if not dominating.
  13. LOL - my thought exactly. What makes this really incredible is - if that his not his normal 6I distance then how good are these guys (caddies included) at judging the effects of wind/downhill/uphill/lie etc? For me that would have been 7I or 8I to lay up and wedge to green (3W if I had a beer at the turn!) Wow!!!
  14. Heaven forbid that I start thinking about it but when I do - it's swinging through the ball with the back of my left hand and the palm of my right hand. Now I'm going to try to forget what I just.....!!!!
  15. Haven't taken formal classes but have used yoga to increase flexibility. Focusing on core strength and flexibiliy seems to help a lot. Good luck
  16. Lots of good reads here - don't forget "Harvey Penick's Little Red Book". Just a bunch of good, common sense golf knowledge. Happy reading!
  17. I agree (although truth be told I don't think I've ever seen a 200+ yd 6 iron on a golf course)
  18. I remember seeing VJ, on the GC, saying that the 7w was one of his favorite clubs.
  19. Practice, practice and more practice. You cannot, absolutely cannot, play "scared". Spend 75% of your practice time on chipping, bump and run etc. The flop shot can be a high risk shot for Hi-HCPs. When you need it use it but for the most part learning to use, for example, an 8I, PW and SW for chipping will help you gain confidence and confidence is what you need. Keep after it and soon you'll be looking forward to being inside of 50 yds. Good luck

    Eagles?

I've had 4 - all chip ins. Not a long hitter so I don't think putting for eagle is in the cards for me.
  21. And we should never forget "fall line".
  22. Just relax, don't give up. Take the lessons and remember that somewhere between fat and thin is JUST RIGHT! Good Luck

    Even Par

Great round. Good luck tomorrow and just remember to just play your game and don't get caught up in "playing" with better golfers and trying to play their game.
