I signed up with Evolvr again on April 16th to try and get me straightened out. So far, so good. We basically just started over at the basics (which had gotten off, to no surprise). The first issue was my setup was too far into the heels and I needed to bend over more to get the arms in a better position. I also made some grip changes as the club was more into the palm than I felt like it was. We then moved from there to getting correct pelvis movement. I "thought" I had a pretty good turn but video shows that I was actually moving toward the ball immediately from the start of the takeaway. I have been working on starting the take away with a more lateral move away from the target and getting the hips moving at a 45* angle across my foot instead of just spinning out immediately. A good thought is that I continue to move them laterally the entire time which gets my butt back as I turn as well. I am also focusing on turning into my right leg more instead of allowing the right let to turn which allows my hip to turn too far. And one last thing is that I need to allow the club to continue at the top instead of it laying off so much. Several different things that I have worked on in stages, but does feel so much better. The main things at this moment are making the moves more fluid (I am currently still thinking them through as I am swinging) and getting the new feels of each position. I am extremely happy with the progress so far. I am going to add my videos here as well to get my swing thread going again and for the swing notes. The 5/6/25 videos were my last submission so I have not started working on turning into the right leg here Oh and @iacas, I did move my net over 🤣. I have NO CLUE why that had never crossed my mind....But I do have a left handed player that moves it around as well. My initial swing videos

Episode 9...wow did that hit home? Basically sounded like my lesson videos. Great info. I'll likely listen to that one again

Unless it is so cold that it will sting my hands on a thin shot, I will "usually" play if asked but I don't usually play alone much if below 60, maybe 55. I actually like playing in the rain (not pouring down) because the sound of the rain hitting my umbrella and rain gear is very calming to me

I really liked Episode 8. I think it shows how important it is to have a coach/instructor if trying to get "better" just from the simple fact of having someone there to tell you "yes, that swing was really good" when you just shanked it and allowing that to reassure your brain that you just made a good swing and to drop the result of the ball contact/path. For me personally, it is easy to get caught up in "good contact" when I'm hitting into my net at home. If I start chasing what I feel is "good contact" then I will likely miss out on the purpose of my drills and revert back to old swing habits. I am trying to make it a habit to rely on video to reassure myself and not worry about contact for now. I am even trying to just go out and go through the drills over and over while rarely hitting a ball. Good stuff! I'm loving the podcast

Caught up on the last two. The flow is going great. I enjoyed episode 4 with the hated drills. Good talk. I have not been interested in podcasts in quite some time until this one.

That answers my question. That feels more natural to me. I'll work on that. Thanks

Still plugging away with the teacher. I do have a question after working on some drills last night. This is something I should know already but for some reason, I have gotten myself confused. It deals with weight transfer on the downswing. At what point, should that take place? Should it be early (prior to reaching A4) ? I ask because in one of my drills I get to A4, I feel the weight transfer AS my arms drop, and then go. Now this may be totally normal, but I "feel" like this gets me in a weird timing position and causes me to try and do too much at once.

Do Not Lead With the Trail Elbow (AMG)
TN94z replied to saevel25's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Agreed. For me, the feel was introduced to get the arms moving down from the top. It wasn't necessarily a "get it in front of the hip" explanation as the correct position but more for an exaggerated feel to get rid of the earlier issue. -

Interesting for sure. I have actually had my instructor try to get me to get the elbow in front as well. That actually spiraled me into the slump I am currently working out of. I would disagree with him saying that lowering the arm might be the simplest and easiest move in golf 😄. I am having SOO much trouble making that move instead of my hands immediately moving toward the ball from the top. It's like my mind has 0 patience at the top and tells me to GO GO GO. -
I have not made any new videos as of yet. I have somewhat come to the conclusion that the practice net at home (or maybe more so the mat) is not giving me as much feedback as I would like and had me headed in the wrong direction it seems. I am going to spend the next few weeks at the range instead. I really need to see the complete ball flight to solidify what I am doing. The net is great for drills and things of that nature but I have really gotten off into the weeds on full swings with it which isn't a good thing, for me. More to come

TRUE Linkswear OG3 Pro… Coming April 15

Interesting. I could use another pair of golf shoes. -
The second episode was very interesting as a parent of a 9 year old as well. The instructors' takes on parents stepping in and when to ask questions was good stuff. I also liked the point on allowing the children and coach to just have their time and the parent steps out. That is what I normally do. But I make it a point to really pump her up on the good shots. I will say, it takes some guts to ask a parent to go sit in the car 🤣 (Sir, you need a timeout, go sit in your car and think about what you've done). And the fact that so many juniors have Trackmans at home blows my mind. Great stuff! I love these types of podcasts.

Agreed. I had that thought as well. I like the idea but it would be a scheduling nightmare on his end, I would think.

I enjoyed it. Very interesting takes on the length of lessons. I have been on both sides in thinking the lesson could have been shorter but many times, I would have enjoyed about 430 more minutes. Mine are all one hour lessons by default. I actually liked the 3 hour lesson allotment and however long lesson 1 takes, only takes away from your 3 hour total. It may be 25 minutes or it may be an hour an a half. Cool concept. The recall factor is something I have been having a lot of trouble with lately actually. A lot of great information within the time frame that I enjoy for a podcast

Working on some swing videos. What are you guys having the best luck with as far as devices used to record the swing? I have a tripod with a magnet that I stick my phone on but it is somewhat of a pain because I have to remove the cover on my phone and when I pull it off the magnet the tripod head changes and moves position. I was thinking something more like an ipad maybe. On a different style tripod and maybe even set it up to mirror to a tv.

I have been somewhat looking into a new wallet as well. I was curious about the ridge since none of my friends seems to carry them. I move to my old Sandtrap with money clip one when we are going out somewhere. I change when I am working though. Strange, I know...haha. I like the idea of the Ridge, but I also like the Bellroy you posted. I have not seen that one. I carry maybe 8 cards plus the driver's license and some cash

A question I have is…this swing (fade, pull cut) does not feel as good and easily repeatable as the draw swing we were working on previously. I’m kinda in a weird spot where I do not know which direction will be the best to pursue. I like seeing a penetrating 5 yard draw but also like the thought of the fade not getting away from me as much. Any thoughts on that?

I don’t know why my swing got so vertical there. That wasn’t normal. What did you mean by point 3? I get the hip turn portion.
-
Hopefully this one is better

Got it. No, he hasn’t asked for the angle, I can move that over and get another video. That really was a poor video. I’ll get another. Sorry about that.

Here is one of my swings where I made what felt like good contact. This isn’t a full speed swing but maybe it should be because a big fault of mine is over swinging. So what im working on is, from A4 my first move has been hands going out toward the ball. This seems to have caused tons of inconsistencies for years. I’ve just made it work with decent hand eye coordination, I guess. Like I said previously, the swing thought/feel is from A4, the lead arm/hands drop down and back to start. Then I feel like my hands get as close to my quads as possible. I’ve never come close to this because my brain never believed contact could be made from there. Also, this all began when I decided to get the early extension and flipping out. Overall goal is a consistent swing and ball flight and get into some tournament play and get competitive in my club championship. Hope I get this right, I haven’t done it in a while. Disregard the pants…I got hot in the garage..😀 I also thought I clicked the audio off on the video but obviously did not.

100%. Currently, it takes me several shots of various progressions to make my brain even trust that it will work. It is so opposite from the feelings I have had for years. And forget about adding any speed at the moment. That is just a recipe to fall back on the old habit

I am going to get this thread going once again. I will get a good current swing video either this week or this weekend. I am working with a local instructor and have been with him for quite some time working on various things. The current issue that seems to have crept back in (and has had me in such a funk lately) is from the top of the back swing, my first move seems to be to pull my hands/butt of the golf club towards the ball. This seems to have been causing the majority of my hosel contact. So he has me working on the first move from the top feeling as though the hands drop down and almost back. The feel I have on my good swing is getting the hands as close to my quads as possible while turning. For the follow through, he wants me to hold the club face off and not allow it to turn over. We have been working to eliminate the early extension and flip that has been a forever issue in my swing. Goal "in his words" is for me to end up hitting a slight pull cut. I hope that makes sense. I will get a video up as soon as I can.

Playing So Bad….just Want to Quit!
TN94z replied to hunterdog's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Will do. I am in constant contact with him. Almost on a daily basis. Sorry for the thread hijack. I'll move to my swing thread.
