  1. I think its different for everyone. One of my friends started playing golf in 10th grade and earned a golf scholarship by his senior year. He may not have "mastery" of golf but he did get very good very fast. Some people play their entire lives and never get below a 10 handi.
  2. I see a lot of the LPGA Pros who have a similar swing. Next time they are on TV see if you notice it.
  3. Corey Pavin averages 250 yds. and can still compete from time to time on tour. Jeff Slueman is also a short knocker on the Senior Tour and had something like 25 consecutive rounds under par recently. Its now how.....its how many. Quick story....I am a long knocker and played with a guy who has had 5 starts on the PGA Tour. I out drove him by 30yds. all day and he beat me by 5. Needless to say his misses were much better than mine.
  4. Ive never told anyone they werent good enough, especially while gambling!!!
  5. Cant go wrong with any Rocky Patel!!!
  6. I think the "mental" part of golf is different for everyone. Especially different for high handicappers vs. low handicappers. For me its not course management at all. The mental part of the game is negative thoughts. If there is out of bounds left and water right I sometimes only think of where not to hit it, instead of picking a line and hitting it. Golf is all about confidence for me. Here an example....some holes set up perfect for me visually and I rarely hit a bad tee shot on those holes. Some dont look so appealing and those are the holes where I hit most of my bad shots. Both can have the same width fairways and no more hazards but the one that visually looks harder is much more difficult....even thought it isnt in reality. Thats all mental for me. If I can eliminate negative thoughts I play much better.
  7. Here is what I do. Tee the ball lower and put it back in my stance, raise my back shoulder higher than normal and abbreviate my follow thru. If she will just practice the abbreviated follow thru she will see results immediately. Like Tiger does on his "stinger".
  8. No offense back..... but If I lost a ball I will go back and re-tee everytime. Its the rules!!! You can look at me however you want but rules are rules. I dont know every rule of golf but I play by the ones I know.
  9. I only have one swing. The only difference is you can tee it up on the box. I never think about any of what you are talking about when I hit a golf ball.
  10. I agree with most of the posts. I have played with many pro golfers, mostly Nationwide and Tight Lies tour, and a few that have played some on the PGA tour. THESE GUYS ARE GOOOOOD! I, like MiniMoe, consider myself a good golfer and can go under par on any course if I hit it good, but I can also put up a big number on any given day. Thats the difference. Most of the tour players dont post a 75 up, ever....not counting bad weather etc. They are so consistant. They hit it so straight and can get up and down from anywhere. If I played great for the first 2 rounds I could make the cut at most PGA tournaments. If I play mediocre for 1 of the first 2 rounds I would never make a singel cut. Thats not nearly good enough!!! You have to be able to hit it bad and still post even par or better. My 2 cents!
  11. Well you would probably be dead if you played high school golf along with many others!!!!!
  12. Play the lotto!!! Much better chance of winning that than playing on any tour! Shoot consistant mid 60's on your muni....then post a thread about your "potential" and you will have much better feedback. Until then, dont expect many people to think you have a chance to play golf for a living.
  13. The course in fairly short, 6400 yards. The par 5's are all about 540 yards or so but 3 of the 4 were playing down wind so were playing much shorter. This is definitely not a "tour" course, think the slope is around 120.
  14. WOW!!! The first time I have ever read 21 pages of posts. Congrats on taking up about 20 min. of my day that would have otherwise been boring. I bowled 3 strikes yesterday in 10 frames. What are the chances I could be a professional bowler???
  15. The shanks happen. I once hit 10 in a row off a par 3 Tee box. Ive had many people give me tips...most didnt help. The one that worked for me it to keep my head from moving forward...or toward the ball. I must have lunged or shifted closer to the ball when I got them. Who knows if that will help you but its worth a try.
  16. Yea...real smooth. As you can tell by my name I have no problem screwing up a great round!!!!!!!
  17. I had one of the strangest rounds yesterday. Had 3 eagles, 2 birdies and 7 bogies. Could have put up a good number but chipped like a dog. For sure the first time I have ever had 3 eagles in a round. All on par 5's...one 25 ft. putt and 2 two from about 8 ft. Just had to share!!!
  18. It was the previous model, not the newest one out. It was a stock shaft on that model. Thanks anyway for trying.
  19. I have a friend who took a Speeder Pro Shaft out of a Cobra driver and put it in another head. Well...he loved the shaft and has since broken it. Its the yellow or gold shaft that came stock from Cobra. It was a stiff flex. Does anyone have the specs on this shaft or know which one of the Fuji shafts it is similar to. I went to Fujikura website and of course they have many speeder shafts and none look like the Cobra that was made specifically for them. Any help would be appreciated!!!
  20. I play anywhere from 36 to 72 holes per week throughout the year. I spend very little time on the range and maybe 30 minutes every other week putting.
  21. Two things for me......slow and still. I try to keep my back swing slow and my head still. SS..I write it on my ball and place in where I can see it when I tee off. If I can remember those 2 things I do well.
  22. When I was fitted for a driver 2 years ago my swing speed was anywhere from 119-125. I hit my 2 hybrid around 250 yds. Not sure who you are playing with but I play with many guys who hit it way past 250.
  23. It totally depends on whats on the other side, water, bunker, ect. I usually suck it up and try not to make more than bogey. If you get too cute you can bring a big number into play. Whatever you choose..flop, pitch, just try to give yourself a chance at an up and down. Remember a 15 foot put can go in, and it should be easy to leave yourself an uphill putt. Best thing to do is to not short side yourself. HA!
  24. I used to love it when I spun the ball, but the more experienced I get the less I want the ball to spin. Rarely does it get the ball closer to the hole.....for me anyway. I am working on getting the ball to stop after one or 2 bounces now rather than it spinning back. Its much easier to control and there is nothing worse than seeing your ball mark a few feet from the hole and your ball 20 feet after its spun away from the hole.
