I think I heard this on Playing Lessons but I dont know who it was with...What I do is look at the hole from behind my ball and imagine that somebody dumped a whole bunch of water or turned on a hose right at the pin...then I think "Where is the water going?" This makes me use my imagination and stop trying to find a line all the time and just understand the break...It works for me but I'm really not sure how well I explained it.

A few swing questions I'm having.
MackJL06 replied to live4u120's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
the head should not stay still...if you watch most pros and draw a line on the side of the head closest to the target...it should sway away from the target and not pass that line until after contact is made...most people think their head stays still but even the pros tend to sway a bit -
Top 10 Golfing No-Nos

there comes a point where it gets a little much. some people just like to have nice looking stuff...which is cool...but i played a round at a very nice course this weekend....Shaker Run in Cincinnati Father and son played together + me and a friend. On the first hole at the tee box they asked me if i had every played the course and I said yes...play it alllll the time. I have a skycaddie and just put it in my pocket at all times and tell my friend the yardage on every hole. Get up to the teebox and say....xxxyards to the bunker xxxto the middle...we both hit...dad gets up there after taking his shoes off...putting socks on...putting golf shoes on...deciding he wanted his regular shoes instead...forgetting his range finder....getting a drink...walks up to box and takes out range finder and lists 10 different yardages to his son...both are playing Callway x22 irons with the new Nike Str8 driver or whatever it is...dad goes through a routine...nothing bad...hits an ok shot and all is good....kid gets up there and made sergio look like a fast player....after the 2nd hole i bet my friend a drink that he would have OVER 235 practice swings on the next 7 holes......i won. there comes a point where people just like to have nice clubs and things in their bags...but i think 1 thing he was trying to make a point of is...this is their profession...their routine....its a putt for $...not to break 120 -
yes miamisburg...some like it some dont...i could play that course all day every day....come to think of it i think i have

get a golfnow.com account. I have been playing Shaker Run...a 70$/riding course for about 19$ ...beautiful course. I love Pipestone and Heatherwood. Most people love Yankee Trace but Im not a fan. Let me know if you need a playing partner...most of my friends dont hit anything but a 5 iron....every shot

i understand the rules here...but if after 3 rounds B shot 1 less....live with it...he had the better score
-
id say player A should realize he lost and not rely on a small hiccup to take a win...it might be a win "by the rules" but just realize whenever people look at the name of the championship that year they will know thats the guy that couldnt swallow his defeat

its painful...i shot 83 (35 putts) and 80 (37 putts) respectively this weekend. for the 83 i 2 putted holes 2-18....dang...on the 80...3 putted 18!

widen the stance. place the ball more towards your left foot. i like to pretend the ball is about 6'' in front of where it truly is...makes me swing alllllll the way through it
-

Taylormade TP Black or Titleist ProV1?
MackJL06 replied to plark's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
the short game can be very fun when you learn how to use spin but the guys you see who have a great short game can hit any kind of shot. from 3 feet off the green i can: pitch and run, pitch it to the hole and stop, flop, flop and roll, and variations of height/speed/spin. learning how to play all these types of shots will allow you to take advantage of a better ball when you get good enough. if i hit a top-flight and a prov1 from the same spot off the green...i WOULD expect them to react differently -
i have Cleveland HiBore 2i Hybrid and 5w both 19*. 5W goes higher but the 2iHybrid is more versatile. I can swing the 2i Hybrid with the same swing as a 5w with a result of a lower trajectory, and i can swing as an iron and get a very workable....hiighhhhhhhhhhhhh ball...b e a utttttttiful

New Swing Video (advice please)
MackJL06 replied to rockrobinoff's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
it looks like you have a very handsy swing...at least on the backswing...the most noticable thing for me was how close you were to the ball...try standing back from the ball a bit. my pro asked me to have a width of the hand in between my body and my club -
18$ to walk 9 or 18$ to walk 18

the draw is so pretty...but so deadly

Any of y'all not carry hybrids?
MackJL06 replied to Laxplayer201092's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
i always was pretty consistent hitting my 3i, especially off the tees. never hit woods well but hit one of my playing partners Cleveland Hibore woods and just absolutely fell in love. Went on ebay and bought a 3wood 5wood hibores. found a 2i and a 4i hybrid at a used sporting goods store for $30/piece so decided it could be a cheap test. loooove these clubs. i can hit them off the tee or off the deck or out of the rough. i can swing my 2i like a wood and sweep it and keep the ball pretty low to keep it controlled and i can strike the ball downwards like an iron and send the thing flying straight up. either way i hit it, it goes about 225. same with the 4i....have a pretty natural draw so i set up at the target and swing away...big sweeping draw that comes perfectly back online and drops like a rock from the sky at about 200yds. never liked hitting hybrids or woods before the hibores. my woods are the same brand/design as my hybrids so maybe thats why i hit them so well -
Biggest fault for blading wedges
MackJL06 replied to albatross's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
just because it is higher loft does not mean you swing under the ball...do you try to sweep under the ball with a 5 iron? same relative idea depending on what kind of shot you want to hit...hit DOWN on the ball...even with a 60*. when you get closer to the green and try hitting flopshots and finesse shots then you can try to sweep under....but for a full length shot just hit like any other iron -
well it depends on what kind of shot you want to hit. anythony kim definatly does take the club WAY inside on his drives because he likes to hit a draw. on PLAYING LESSONS FROM THE PROS with a.Kim he showed how all he does on his driver takeaway is put his left elbow in a certain position and doesnt think about anything else. he proceeds to swing away from his body and flipping the wrists which causes the draw. when taking my 1 and only golf lesson...the pro put a clubhead cover along the right edge of the ball about a foot behind it and a clubhead cover to the left of the ball about 4inches. (this view would be from behind the ball). this meant i had to pull my club on an inside swing path and push OUTWARDS while hitting the ball. this swing path plus the flipping of wrists through the ball plays a nice draw. a nice way to think about a backswing is to swing underneath your right shoulder. when you are setup over the ball...imagine a big line along your shoulders....swing underneath that line...not sure if any of that made sense. i have a video from my pro analyzing my swing that i can post if this didnt help you at all. DONT GIVE UP!

i first address the ball from behind to find an intermediate line i want to hit it on...walk up to the ball...SLAM the clubface behind the ball...let go of the club so its barely touching my left hand and not falling to the ground...grip the club...waggle above the ball to make sure grip is loose...swing away!
