If you keep an eye out, you can get some great deals on the Adams a4 hybrids on eBay. I payed $25 for each of mine. As for the clubs, I love my hybrids to death. The 4h is probably my favorite club.

I'm basing it on physics...what are you basing it on? People hit their 3 wood farther because they make better contact? Given the same quality of contact the driver will go farther, otherwise a 3 wood be used as a driver... I'm getting the idea that hitting the ball at an optimal angle in the real world goes the farthest...a good ball flight. i don't know where you're getting the idea that a good ball flight is as high as you can hit it. Again, I didn't say 8.5 would be his optimal clubhead but it could be.

No, I'm saying that he should use whatever club gives him the best results, 8.5 or 11.5 clubhead, regular or stiff shaft, standard or midsize grip, or any other changes you can make. I think that switching from 8.5 to 11.5 is a big switch and will affect more things than just launch angle. I would never make that dramatic of a change in loft for clubs trying to serve the same purpose without having at least tried a few in the new loft. That being said, if he has trouble because he hits it too high, he should probably experiment with different lofts or shafts.

I'm sorry, what math problem are you doing? Yes, using simple parabolic motion 45* will result in the longest carry but it doesn't come close to encompassing all necessary variables. (I think it's kinematics vs analytical dynamics?) Furthermore, I'm pretty sure you meant that 30* will carry as far as the 60* with substantially less hangtime.

Wedge Shaft Flex vs Stiff Flex, Spinners, Etc.
trumpetgolf replied to Divot Tool's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
What makes it a wedge shaft vs a non-wedge shaft? Is there a reason you couldn't put these in other clubs? Also, where does the "Wedge" flex fit into the scheme of the TTDG, stiffer than S300? -
Spikes; Soft or Metal?

+1 I hate when people ask a question, get an answer supported by research or an answer from an expert, and then totally disregard the answer based on anecdotal evidence. In general, research doesn't lie and experts are experts for a reason. The Pro can do whatever he wants, but the reality is he's not helping his course. The fact that he's been doing it for 50 years just gives me the impression that he formed his opinions before research was done and doesn't like change. -
I'm currently using the Adams a4 3 and 4 hybrid. The a4 series from Adams have no offset, which I like a lot. I had picked up an a7os to try out and it was just hook city, way way too much offset. I got rid of that and picked up the a4 3 hybrid because I had the a4 4 and loved it. The best part is that you can get the a4 hybrids pretty darn cheap on eBay too!

On Trump's show, I think Jerry said he played to a 2 handicap? Either way, his swing is hideous and there are plenty of +-.-- handicap players out there that can't make it on the Nationwide.

I'm definitely with shanks on this one. If you've got a club for a certain distance and you want to his it that far on the couse you pull that club. Is it going to work out perfectly everytime? Obviously not. However, as you get better it'll workout more often and you won't be second guessing yourself. You'll never get better until you make yourself make the shots. Don't play the shank play the pure.

I'm looking at buying a new driver shaft and was looking at the Proforce V2 Tour and the NV Protopype. Does anyone have experience with these shafts? Mainly, how do the two compare as far as launch and spin?

Nice vid from Sean O'Hair

Why don't more teachers to the pros give Master Classes? Or better yet, why don't they do dual Master Classes with the pro just there to hit shots and talk about feel (and be the big name draw) and the coach actually talk through mechanics and drills? -
I don't think you understand. If I can't change their minds that blades are only for players with low handicaps no matter what, then I'll be viewed as a failure for the rest of my life. It's imperative that I win this internet battle!

That's like the Holy Grail of league bowling! It sucks that me and another guy on my team basically throw the same ball, and just eat up the oil by our mark. We have to start making adjustments way before we should have to.
-
Yea, it's crazy how different oil pattens affect the game. Bowling on house patterns is way different, and you get used to the pattern at your home alley. It's kind of like having a handicap playing your local muni frequently versus a guy on the tour playing at different courses set up to play outrageously hard (even though in bowling they only bowl on 5 pattens). I average ~170 but there are a few guys in my league that just dominate.

Mishits due to thick grips???
trumpetgolf replied to westcyderydin's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I'm confused. Aren't midsized grips larger than standard? So, the 3,4,5 should have smaller grips than the other irons in your set? -
Hank Haney resigns as Tiger Woods swing coach
trumpetgolf replied to shortstop20's topic in Tour Talk
Just a heads up, Haney is going to be on SportsCenter at 11:10ET today (They've got what looks to be a decent sized segment blocked off for him on the side bar for upcoming stories.) It might be an interesting interview. -
Other Pro Atheletes Qualifying for the US Open.
trumpetgolf replied to trumpetgolf's topic in Tour Talk
Really? I think Smoltz should have a decent chance. He plays to a +2 normally but because he's such a competitor I'm sure he's kicked up the practice when he decided to shoot for the Open. Especially considering, he doesn't have to leave his house to practice like crazy! Also, unlike other amateurs, he won't be dealing with the same kind of nerves. Sure, he'll get nervous and it'll be a different rush from baseball, but when push comes to shove he thrives in pressure situations. http://www.golfdigest.com/golf-cours...?currentPage=3 -
I just heard on SportsCenter that both John Smoltz and Tony Romo are going to attempt to qualify for the US Open. Do you think either one has a shot?

Fade with a one plane swing.
trumpetgolf replied to trumpetgolf's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Yea, by synthesizing I meant, the swing plane would be parallel to my feet but by aligning left out to in versus the target line. This results in a push fade (for me) that would normally be someone else's pull fade? Ball position was another way I had thought about doing it. Basically, someone could move the ball forward in the stance and in to the body to promote the out to in and a little bit back and in to promote a draw? When I was playing with this, it felt like it may be too many variables to be messing around with. As for specific questions, did you have any a ha moments that you felt were beneficial in the development of your swing, swing thoughts, or outside materials (books/videos) that were especially helpful? -
Over the past year, I've tried to play with a one plane swing and have been able to work a controllable draw into my game. Unfortunately, I can't think of an effective way to hit a fade. Is it possible for a one plane player to hit a fade? Do I just have to synthesize an out to in swing by aligning left of target and opening the face or can I do it somehow with normal alignment?

I'm fairly competitive by nature but I have a friend who isn't competitive at all. He's not a bad golfer by any means, but it seems like we always have the same conversation, "So, why don't you keep score? I just don't get it...". It's always good for a laugh. I don't understand it, but he loves making it around the track and is content not knowing what he shoots. It's not my place to judge. O yea, I've also dropped the driver from my bag. I hit it fairly straight but just so sky high that I'm losing tons of distance. I can hit my 3w lower and just as far and it's less affected in the wind, which is a big problem playing in central Illinois. I'm working on it, but until I feel comfortable putting it out there with a good trajectory its staying at home or at the range.
