  1. Absolutely. The only tradition I have ever heard of is that you buy the witness(one of them) a pair of golf shoes. Don't know if this is true but I witnessed one and didn't get shit! The guy is my regular golf buddy and a good friend. He had just started out and this was maybe is 3rd round ever. I ended up getting him a Seemore putter like mine and having it engraved with the stats for his ace.
  2. I chipped in with my 60* from a greenside bunker the other day. The ball flew about 6 feet and rolled about 30 downhill into the hole. Hands down my best shot ever.
  3. Do you have a dremel tool? if so, get a polishing wheel(cloth) and some white polishing rouge. This is a mildly abrasive compound that will not remove the finish. I am a machinist on the side and have been for years, I know how to remove rust. Trust me, if you take your time and only push the wheel in the same direction, you will not damage your putter.
  4. *Most* range balls are solid one piece balls. They have about half the heat of the 2 piece balls. Luckily my home course uses Callaway 2 piece range balls that are very similar to the balls I buy at the store.
  5. I do know one thing, my Cleveland Tour action wedges will never leave my bag.
  6. I am not brand loyal or anything, but I own a set of cobra irons, the SSI series, and they feel better than most clubs for me. I am a high handicapper and they seem to have a huge sweet spot.
  7. I agree. I am just right of center, and the administration in office right now doesn't seem left to me, they seem off the map and more akin to socialism.
  8. Mine came in today, they look great!
  9. I believe you are allowed a club length from a man made obstacle in most games. I don't care what the rule is, if the shot is through trees and dangerous or will cause damage to my club, there is no way in hell i am "playing it as it lies". give me the penalty!
  10. I sometimes foot wedge the ball, depending on who I playing with and whether or not they care. I really only do it when the lie will cause me to damage a club in the process of playing the shot. All my regular golf partners agree and do not enforce a penalty if the ball is only moved a short lateral distance ie: a club length.
  11. People like this ruin a good round of golf. He is only lying to himself with those shaved strokes. Ditch the ******* and find an honest dude to golf with.
  12. I know right? there is nothing worse than a guy who takes forever to putt, only to hit it 3 times. some people take themselves way too seriously.
  13. In my experience, the cheaper sets that come with a bag and all clubs tend to be just that, CHEAP. My boss bought an Acuity set from Dicks sporting goods and for 2 rounds his setup looked a lot better than mine, until the driver head fell off while in the bag! I have since replaced my bag and carefully built my set by nickel and diming, now I have my perfectionists idea of a decent set, and his cheap acuity set is showing ever more wear as my clubs remain scratched but gleaming! In this game, it is worth it to invest at least a little, if you have too cheap a club, it will absolutely show. Humble up and buy used Cobra or titleist stuff!! .....I would love a set of red dot ping eye 2's.......hint hint(if anyone has some let me know!)
  14. Even though I have an incredibly high handicap, putting is actually one of my strong points. I almost always two putt. A three putt for me is rare. My biggest problem is my driver(always!) and my wedges. The wedges come in and out, I think I made a mistake getting a fourth wedge, too many options. But back to the subject, I walk up to the green and read it as I walk on, then I may squat down if the green is especially hilly or steep, no practice strokes, easy straight back straight through stroke. Unless I am 10 feet out or more I usually sink'em.
  15. '05 Chevy Trailblazer EXT. It has enough room for four adults, four golf bags, and a cooler!!
  16. I love my Seemore FGP2. It is as small as a blade with the mallet feel. For a center shaft putter it is the shiznit. Best roll ever, and it is light. I think it is listed at $185, so it is not the most expensive but you need to make sure you like it before you buy it!!
  17. I just wanted to say to whoever jacked my reputation: This is a free speech forum in a free speech country. My comment about the left wing was not intended to offend anyone and was not offensive in any way. People like you are why we are so quickly turning to socialism. One more thing, this post is not offensive either so putting negative rep on it is abuse of the reputation system.
  18. I agree. I love all my golf maintenance whether it is regripping, polishing, or cleaning. It's nice to see people still like guns too, instead of listening to the left wing propaganda that is put out about guns.
  19. There is nothing better than watching your 7 iron shot land just a few feet from the hole on an island par 3. I also love the etiquette and precision that is involved with the game. And for sure, I love the remoteness that goes hand in hand. When I am on the course, nothing matters but the hole I am playing. It's like all my worries are on hold until I get back.
  20. I know, right? Makes a lot of sense!
  21. Also, if you check, the average golf score in America has been 100 for the last 120 years, so unless you are a paid professional, get over it.
  22. Dude, just thank the golf gods you don't shoot like that all the time, because I do. My best game ever is a 104, and I average a 120. I don't want to hear it. Golf is a frustrating game, but hearing people whine about shooting in the 100's just ticks me off, because my bad games are over 150, but I still love the game and I am never ready to throw in the towel. Just remember there is always a worse golfer than you, ALWAYS.
  23. I did actually try this come to think of it, and i remember it worked well, all shots that I teed up were decent, but I didn't want to fool myself and I went back to a more realistic lie on the ground. Maybe I should have just teed up so rebuild confidence.
  24. I tried that, but the range is so freaking boring! Since I get really nice courses for free, I would rather go hack away on the course and learn from my mistakes. My game hasn't had any drastic improvement, but I only play about 3 times for every 4 weeks. I really do have fun most of the time though, and I am getting more and more wrapped up in this damn sport, I think once I move closer to the resort I work for I will be able to play more often. I also have a child who isn't even a year old yet, that is part of why I can't play that much.
  25. As I said in another thread, I am in a slump. But weird things are happening. I played perhaps the worst round of my life on monday, couldn't hit any club at all. My driver was my worst. Today at the range, I pulled out a wedge and hit one good shot, and then started digging in and hitting everything fat with a huge slice. I decided that I should try the driver, and hit 5 great shots right down the middle. Bolstered, I picked up my 7 iron and couldn't hit it!! I couldn't hit any iron, but both my wood and my driver were smooth. I think this problem is due to stress, I am buying a house and the closing has been delayed for the 2nd time. Could it be that I am tensing up and that is messing up my normal swing?
